Since I've been getting quite a few questions asking about books on Aromatherapy, I thought I'd list a few of my favourites. Most of these books can be found on Amazon or at your local bookstore while a few of them might be hard to track down. Hope this helps all of you with questions:

General Info:
*The Complete Illustrated Guide to Aromatherapy: A Practical Approach to the Use of Essential Oils for Health and Well-Being by Julia Lawless
*The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to the Use of Aromatic Oils in Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well-being by Julia Lawless
*The Art of Aromatherapy: The Healing and Beautifying Properties of the Essential Oils of Flowers and Herbs by Robert Tisserand
*Aromatherapy for Women: A Practical Guide to Essential Oils for Health and Beauty by Maggie Tisserand
*Gattefosse's Aromatherapy by Rene-Maurice Gattefosse
*The Aromatherapy Bible by Gill-Farrer Halls

Hydrosols:
*Hydrosols: The Next Aromatherapy by Suzanne Catty

The Spiritual and Emotional side of Aromatherapy:
*Water Magic : Healing Bath Recipes for the Body, Spirit, and Soul by Cathy Cash Spellman and Mary Muryn (My first book on Aromatherapy when I was a young teen)
*Subtle Aromatherapy by Patricia Davis
*Aromatherapy for the Soul: Healing the Spirit with Fragrance and Essential Oils by Valerie Ann Worwood
*Vibrational Healing: Revealing the Essence of Nature Through Aromatherapy and Essential Oils by Deborah Eidson

Beauty:
*Marguerite Maury's Guide to Aromatherapy by Marguerite Maury
*Aromatherapy for the Beauty Therapist by Valerie Ann Worwood
*Making Aromatherapy Creams and Lotions : 101 Natural Formulas to Revitalize and Nourish Your Skin by Donna Maria

Advanced and Clinical Aromatherapy:
*Advanced Aromatherapy: The Science of Essential Oil Therapy by Kurt Schnaubelt
*Medical Aromatherapy: Healing with Essential Oils by Kurt Schnaubelt
*The Practice of Aromatherapy: A Classic Compendium of Plant Medicines and Their Healing Properties by Jean Valnet, M. D. Valnet, and Robert Tisserand
*The Practice of Aromatherapy by Jean MP Valnet
*Aromatherapy for Health Professionals by Shirley Price

And for all you chefs and gourmets out there, here is a book I have had on my "To buy" list for ages:
*Aromatherapy in the Kitchen: Fragrant Foods for Body, Mind and Spirit by Melissa Dale, Emmanuelle Lipsky, and Kellie Canning

Happy Reading! Very Happy

Wildflower, thank you for putting together such a comprehensive list. Those of us interested in getting involved in aromatherapy greatly value such recommendations from someone who has actual aromatherapy experience!

Glad to be helping out! Smile There are lots of books out there on aromatherapy now and some are, sadly, a bit sketchy. I've read a few books that were shocking and were really misinforming people. (Giving out incorrect and dangerous info for ex.) I even received one as a gift. Seems like anyone can write a book nowadays without being the least bit educated about the topic they are writing about. That being said, there are still great books out there and I'm happy to lead you all in the right direction.

Good question. There are lots of sites on aromatherapy but just like with books, many sites give incorrect info. Here are a few links I've saved to my favs. Most of the info they provide is worthwhile but I don't really refer to them very often myself. As with everything, use judgement and do your homework.

http://www.aworldofaromatherapy.com/
http://www.aromaweb.com/
http://www.aromatherapythymes.com/

Here is a list of some Aromatherapy Organizations that also have great info on aromatherapy. The first 2 also have their own Journal or Magazine with articles to learn from:

http://www.cfacanada.com/
http://www.naha.org/
http://www.nature-helps.com/agora/agora.html

Also, any good essential oil or aromatherapy company will offer some general info online as well.

Thanks for bumping this. I use Lavender and some other oils to make me relaxed and sleepy but would like to branch out. I really love aromatherapy. Makes you feel really good and it is immediate in that.

Thanks heaps widlflower! Smile Smile Smile

My fave oil right now is sandlewood (alone and in mixtures). Was having sleeping issues, tried sandlewood oil on pillow and it does the trick! I love it now, and it's convinced me to branch out too!

Hey, thanks again wildflower....

Have you read The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood, Wildflower?

A woman who owns an aromatherapy shop here said it was the best, and i haven't been able to find a hard copy to see if it's any good.

I haven't read that book myself but Valerie Ann Worwood has written quite a few good books on Aromatherapy, so I'm sure this book would have lots of useful info in it. If you can no longer find the book (may be out of print) you may want to check out other books by the same author or look at some of the other books I've listed here. Books by Julia Lawless are similar to those of Worwood.

My copy of "The Complete Illustrated Guide to Aromatherapy: A Practical Approach to the Use of Essential Oils for Health and Well-Being" by Julia Lawless arrived yesterday. I got it used at Amazon. It's really insightful and easy to read. It doesn't talk about spruce oils, which are my interest at the moment but on the whole I found it a very useful book.
