Catriona,

Thanks for taking the time to update us. Your initial post was quite a shocker, and I think people will be reassured from your update that 302 has not caused darker pigmentation. Also, it's another testament for the need to be patient and observe your skin, and you will reap the benefits eventually.

I'm taking another 302 holiday, in preparation for the Super 302 drops which Dr H has promised me. I use nothing except the cleansers, Acne mist, ointment RX, and Recovery minerals day and night. It is so good to not have multiple products and complicated routines and still have clear, smooth, soft skin. I think we've all heard of anedoctal stories of people who get sick, they stop using the makeup and skincare products for a week or more, and they have the best skin they've ever seen. They wonder why that is... People never think it could be the overuse of skincare and makeup (along with bad ingredients) which is causing the problems. Less is best for your skin and pocketbook Smile .

i think that the broken capillaries looking worse is from the drops bringing more circulation and blood to the skin. they always look worse when it is warm or your face is flushed.
i also think, weirdly, that that might be what is causing the pigment to darken.
today, after not using them for a bit, my skin has returned to 'normal'. including the pigment.
i think my skin is fairly reactive, so i'm just going to take it really s l o w.

Hello everyone,
... if you recall I had a quick reaction to the 302 - I think mostly to the drops - with some redness, especially on my chest (very red), but more to my alarm, noticeable darkening of pigment spots on my face in just a week or so. It scared me and I backed off. (I have mature but oily skin, clogged pores, some hyperpigmentation and broken capillaries). Since stopping though, the pigment seems less noticeable again, so I think "neondaze" may well be right about the circulation issue.
So, I decided to try again, but use only the cleanser for now - since about a week. I have not noticed a darkening of the pigment again and I do like the way my skin looks brighter. I've had a bit of "pinking," so like "neondaze" I think my skin is fairly reactive and I should go VERY slowly. ... I will keep you posted Smile

HI Catriona, Glad to hear that it's been positive for you! Yes I do indeed think this is going to be long-term. I also thought "wow! Finally something that's going to work for good and forever". I think 302 is actually going to make my skin function a lot better than it has since many years ago! I've been on 302 for about 3 weeks now, and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I have had to use foundation to cover up lots of blemishes, and combated dehydrated and oily skin prior to this. Previous skincare routines always just gave short-term results and then my skin would stubbornly revert back to its original dehydrated, acne-prone state. And 302 has made it look and act much more normal, more and more as I use it longer. It is getting more elastic, less sensitive, I am getting less milia and existing milia are disappearing. I even stopped breaking out uncontrollably, just a little purging at this point, but nothing I can't deal with.

Prior to this, I was starting to envy women who never had to do much with their skin and never wear makeup. and I seemed to be making it worse with my skincare products with vitamin A and acne control etc..the conventional way of dealing with skin issues.

Yesterday I went to a spa wanting to buy some Jurlique masks, and this lady took a look at my skin and said "Your skin looks quite healthy, I don't think you need to fix it etc etc..it's just about maintaining that health". I was sooo stunned!! THat *never* happens to me, these people *always*always*always* point out the dehydration factor and the acne and the many issues my skin has, and tell me I need to buy xyz to improve this and that. So my point is that this has never happened in at least the last 10 years when I started using skincare products!

302 is my holy grail!!! And I will continue to buy it until forever! Very Happy

btw currently my routine looks like this (I do mix but NOT with any actives or acids. Just with stuff that doesn't give me any problems, e.g. my pearl illuminating 'cream':

AM

cleanse with dermadoctor born to be mildly medicated face and body cleanser (for sebbhorheic dermatitis flaking on my face)
Acne mist
rx ointment (on the acne spots and prone areas)
recovery minerals SPF 30
Pearl 'cream' - not really a cream, but a 'cover-up' of sorts that I much prefer to foundation, which can be problematic for milia and acne. This pearl cream covers up the appearance of pores and some uneven pigmentation, and locks the moisture in, keeps face feeling fresh and not too oily)

PM

dermadoctor cleanser
302 drops or C boost (alternating)
acne mist
rx ointment as a spot treatment

Hi HeavenLeigh

Always good to hear other folks' stories ... so many of us dreaming of one day being able to go out the door without having to cover our skin problems! For the time being, I have to cover up some - I'm wondering about your pearl illuminating 'cream' Where you get it and what's in it?

Thanks,

Hi Boski,

I should add that I didn't realize at the time, but I was using way too much of the drops when I started with the 302, and every day - I just didn't know better - and of course that would have exaggerated my initial reactions. Now it's slow and steady, thanks to yours and others help Wink My skin has not changed in any fundamental way at this point, but it's certainly early days, and it really does look and feel better. I'm so encouraged. Very Happy

I think it will be an early batch. He's been telling me I would get some for months now, but that's par for Dr H, the eternal optimist. He keeps saying in a "few weeks" it should be out for regular customers, but I doubt that will happen, based on prior history with other product "announcements". When I get it, I'll let you guys know what it's like.

My plan is to do a major dermarolling and apply the Super 302 post-roll, along with Lightening drops and A Boost. Then apply the Ointment RX on top, as he suggested in a prior post. It will be a big jolt to my skin, that's why I'm laying off actives right now, to get my skin ready to take in this Super concoction. Hopefully, this will help totally flatten out the few remaining scars I still have. I'm anxious to see what this stuff does too!

Glad to hear that things have worked out for you Catriona! yay!

Your post reminded me that I should do a little update as well.

I've been using 302 for 6-7 wks or so now, and I really LOVE it. I love the smell, texture and the minimal ingredients. I can't imagine using anything else.

I had never really used much of anything before, mostly because I'm lazy, and also because I'm a bit suspicious of cosmetic companies and all the ingredients they put in stuff, and how at some stage down the track you find out, surprise, surprise, that magic ingredient x is actually not so good for you. Which is why it has been so great to find the EDS forum, and why 302 appeals so much – the philosophy and the technology is in the right place for me.

So, anyway, when I first started 302 my skin was a bit reactive for the first week or so. My pigment spots darkened, and after applying the drops odd bits of skin got quite pink. Mostly I think my skin was going ‘WTH?!’ But I took it really slow, used the drops only twice a week, alternated the face and body bar, and slowly worked up the frequency. I introduced the A-Boost a few weeks ago, and aside from the first week, haven’t had any dramas at all. In general my skin is looking ever so slightly thicker and the texture is a bit finer.

I'm currently only using the f&b bar/alternated with a castile soap, the 302 drops (3 times a week), and the A-Boost (twice a week). VERY minimal. (Jennifer thoroughly approved, saying less is best)

Over the last few days I’ve noticed that I have a few more blocked pores than normal, and hard little plugs are sitting quite deeply under the skin. So I guess I’m starting to purge and I probably need to get an Ultrasound, but it is beyond my budget right now.

I am, however, about to do a Calmskin order, and will get the Intro Special, plus the Recovery Minerals. I’m not sure if my skin is a bit congested partly because of the SS I’m using (Anthelios SPF60 or Keys Soap). I know you’re not supposed to use liquid SS, but being in Australia SS is a must. Everyone here looks 10 years older than people from other parts of the world! It is so dry here, and the sun is so fierce. And when I first ordered the 302 I didn’t really understand the whole Minerals thing and why that was better. Part of me still doesn’t actually – is it mostly because the skin can breathe better? Or is it more involved than that? Regardless of the reason, I will definitely be changing the SS thing though.

Actually, I think it's because the minerals sit on top of the skin rather than clogging the pores and penetrating the top layer. ALso, the zinc oxide is good for most skin types - it's slightly antiseptic but it also has anti-inflammatory properties. I don't recall what else is in the rec. minerals, but in general, mineral formulations lack ingredients that are known to cause allergic reactions or sensitivity (and often, the ingredients are specifically known to be soothing to troubled skin).

Quite a few of the most common chemicals used in chemically based (i.e. liquid) sunscreens are also problematic in that they cause, or CAN cause sensitivity and allergic reactions, and one or two have even been shown to be carcinogenic in studies with rats. I don't know if any of them have shown carcinogenic tendencies in humans (or if they've even been tested for that) but I personally can't use them because for years, they've made my facial skin and decolletage(sp) break out in rashes, and my face always stings when I use it. Huge pain in the arse for me, since I love to jog outside in the sunshine and NEED some kind of sunscreen, but most of them make my face feel like it's been set on fire Neutral

Last year, I read that red raspberry seed oil has a pretty high natural SPF, so I bought some from Gardenofwisdom.com and started applying it before heading out. I have no idea if it's broad spectrum, or is otherwise inferior to commercial sunscreens, but I had to try something. Of course, I was sweating most of it off, but it didn't make me sting or get rashy, and I figured it was better than nothing.

I am planning to get the rec. minerals in May, for daily use, but I don't know if it (or the ointment, either, for that matter) will work well for jogging/exercising outdoors... I don't want a sludgy mess dripping all over my face & shirt when I'm jogging at the park Embarassed

Hi Neondaze,

Good to hear from you, too. Great to compare notes with other folks just starting out. I think we have alot in common, in terms of our initial reactions - and I also have never done much beyond the basics with my skin as I don't by/buy the hype either! And my skin just doesn't seem to change, no matter what. But maybe I'm not stuck with that, after all.

I too have used sunscreen religiously, as the message is everywhere and if you have that ugly hyperpigmentation, you do what you're told regarding that! That's one area that I have made some attempts with! I tried hydroquinine briefly, years ago, and it did nothing so I stopped. I tried cosmelan, after they had changed the initial formulation - it helped a bit, but the effect has not lasted (I used the cream for a while afterward and it brightened my skin but it didn't seem to do enough to warrant the price).

Anyway, I was thinking of trying one of the 302 liquid sunscreens, as Spring is here (officially, anyway, though it's still rather cold here in S. Ontario!) and I want to start walking again.

I was wondering if there is a benefit in using the CalmSkin alongside the 302, as I understand it's weaker though I guess some products are the same, ie. the recovery minerals. In order to alternate products, perhaps?

Anyway, here's to conitinuing progress for us all Wink

I don't mean to turn this into a sunscreen discussion, but it is tricky figuring it all out. I did loads of research a little while ago and was happy with deciding on Anthelios 60 (chemical blocker), and Keys Soap (physical - loads of uncoated zinc oxide (18.5%) with shea butter). But from memory I think the Keys isn't that water proof, and the 302 SS *might* suffer from the same problem. But don't quote me!

Lowbrow - poor you with the itching, burning thing and SS. Anthelios is very good and is made from something you can't get in most other SS (the FDA won't approve it in the US, although it is considered one of the best SS available in the EU. who knows what to make of that!) Maybe it is worth a try, ... or maybe not, given your sensitivity.

Catriona, i kinda didn't mind my freckles for a long time, but yes over the last few years they seem to have been getting darker and bigger and threatening to join up on me! so, same, that's the only thing I was looking into a little bit too. I tried a formula with niacinamde for a couple months last year. One of its actions is supposedly to stop the uptake of melanin in the skin. It made my skin brighter and less sallow looking. I stopped because i'd run out (very small bottle), and wanted to wait and see more studies on it before repurchasing.

Hmm and maybe I should buy the 302 version of the cleanser, mist and ointment. I thought these were basically the same for Calmskin and 302. But not sure now.

Hi Lowbrow,

I would put the ointment on first and then dust on the Recovery Minerals over that when going outside for your jogs. You get the SPF 15 with the ointment and the SPF 30 with the Recovery Minerals. One of the benefits of MMU is that it's supposed to be water and sweatproof.

Unless you are really fair or light-skinned, you may find the liquid 302 SS will leave a whitish cast on your skin. You can add some MMU to it possibly and tint it. Dr H is creating a tinted version right now, but it's not available yet. I think the Ointment RX and the Recovery Minerals liberally dusted over that (like I suggested to Lowbrow) should be okay for extended outdoor exposure.

I wouldn't consider the Calmskin products weaker versions of 302 products. In fact, the CS C is stronger than the 302 C boost, and the Rebuild is stronger than the 302 serum probably. They are just different formulations. Some products are almost identical though. I would say the Recovery Minerals, the F/B bar, and the Soothe are pretty similar to their CS counterparts, but they are not exact duplicates of eachother. You can use both lines in the same way, interchangeably and alternating them.

302 vs calmskin

I thought I would add that the cleanser from calmskin seems much stronger than the 302 cleansers! I bought the intro special and use it amongst my other 302 purchases. When I use the calmskin cleanser - my skin is pink after using this cleanser - never happens with the 302 cleansers or the facebar!

What is in the Anthelios Sunscreen that is not approved in the US? I've used the Keys for liquid sunscreen in the past and on my kids. It's very nice, but not waterproof unfortunately.

SS is a very touchy subject and I think that Dr H has some strong opinions about the use of chemical SS and very high SPF. He had an article in the past about SS and he explained that high SPFs actually do not protect that much more than a lower one, like SPF 30. It's the "amount of time" you are protected which the SPF tells you.

I think the way the SPF is calculated is something based on the amount of time it takes for you to turn red. Most people believe the higher the SPF, the stronger the protection, and that's just not the case. For example, if you burn in 20 minutes, a product with SPF 15, will protect you for 20 x 15 minutes, which is 300 minutes, or 5 hours. If you use 30 SPF, that's 10 hours. I don't think many people are out in the sun beyond that. So, given this measure, SPF 60 is overkill. You are applying some ingredients which may go into the body over time, so just be sure all the ingredients are safe.

ETA: Forgot to say, liquid SS usually have other ingredients which can clog and irritate the skin, which is another reason to avoid it if you are oily, acne prone, or sensitive. Since I gave up liquid SS on a regular basis, I have no more clogged pores. I think that, and liquid makeup, are the major culprits in creating clogged pores and sensitivity.

The Calmskin cleanser is unlike any of the 302 ones. It is more green tea based and looks like maple syrup. It foams a little, but not much.

I dug up an old email note from last October about whether to use 302 or Calmskin or both. I think it's appropriate to repost it here for people who are considering both lines:

Hi Nancy,

There is Avogen in the Calmskin products and I think it is listed in the ingredients - I saw it go into the mixing tanks Wink – it may be the website is a little behind but I seem to recall reading it there. Hmmm, I will check. That is why they paid their license and royalty so it would be odd not to have it in there. I know it is in the Rebuild and the Repair and the Hand & Body product. The Rebuild has a high content, by the way – it is in the ‘aging’ category.

2. You can mix 302 and Calmskin – they are compatible in correcting visible aging solutions – for inflammation, however, I would rather it be a one or the other ...

I would like to see these inflamed skin types choose either 302 or Calmskin. Pick one. They have different solution approaches, but both will solve the problem. At the Calmskin site you’ll find a lot of warnings about mixing with other product lines – recall that this site is oriented toward inflamed skin and one of the big problems for these people is acids and/or mixing product lines – they grab a little Aquaphor here, some MD Forte there and a dollop of Gold Bond and end up with a disaster.

As to aging, the assumption is that the end-user in Calmskin has progressed from inflammation through irritation to just pinking and finally to stability and ultimately can wean themselves away from ‘healing’ products and go on to visible aging solutions. At that point, both Calmskin and 302 are quite compatible and indeed so is the topical product universe.

3. Choosing between Calmskin and 302 where irritation and skin inflammation is concerned comes down to personal inclinations. Calmskin starts off with a cleanser and a product called Soothe – a kind of ointment that is quite light and takes down inflammation like, right now. Calmskin has a Mist which is a bit different because it is really oriented to, well, calming the skin. As the user improves she would add Repair to the mix. It is a progressive, self-guided regime. In time, the other products that combat visible aging are brought to bear. Now obviously, someone without inflammation could jump ahead and go right to visible aging solutions and find some very potent products. That’s fine and makes sense for those unable to profit from the skills of a pro.

302 is the choice for those who have access to an excellent skincare pro. There are not a lot of them. I can say that almost all, but by no means every one, of our 302 estheticians and docs are very savvy, experienced and careful. Some are just spectacular in what they are able to do. This is a very competitive business at the pro spa level and it is the one or two person shop that is best in my experience – they made it because they are good – not because they have a glorious setting, though some do – but because they are just heads above more experienced, knowledgeable, capable – and it takes at least 7 years to get really good at this sport. The propaganda coming from product and hardware marketers is just overwhelming and most of it just ridiculous. Picking and choosing products and hardware is an art form in itself – as you and your EDS members well know – what works for Mary won’t necessarily work for Jane, even if they share many similar traits. There is simply no substitute for seeing a lot of different skin. The skin pro, a good one, will hone in on the solution much more efficiently and correctly than a self-diagnosis.

Calmskin is for more independent souls who don’t have time or inclination to see a pro or simply don’t have good results when they do. As long as everyone understands, less is best, however, it will all work.

Thanks for the info Boski.
Yes, SS is a touchy subject! I did read a post by Dr Huber a few weeks ago on the subject, and I mostly agree with him. No sun is bad, and too much SS is bad. But I still want to put something on my face when i go out for a bit! I can't remember what exactly is in the Anthelios XL that hasn't been approved, sorry, it was a while ago that i looked up all this stuff. And from memory, the rationale at the time for getting SPF60 is that those stats about being protected for however much time are based on you putting a certain amount of it on in the first place, which most people don't. So if you get a high SPF and only put a modest amount on you are a bit more 'covered'. Of course the payoff is that the higher the SPF the more stuff in it. Anyway, as I said it is all a bit tricky to work out, and I'm getting some Soothe and Recovery Minerals to try.

By the way Boski, do you think you would have got as good results with your skin if you hadn't used some of the tools you've got? And which do you think worked best Dermaroller or Ultrasound? or something else?

I'm just glad that you're making the distinction between physical and chemical ss. Very Happy That's a pet peeve of mine, since in my opinion it's insane to just tell people not to wear sunscreen, but if he really meant chemical ss then that's not insane and something I agree with. Razz

Anyway, I believe that wearing physical sunscreen is the single most important thing we have to do to take care of our skin. (And also to prevent skin cancer, obviously)

I think the gadgets help speed things along when used with 302, especially if you are older, as your metabolism will be slower to respond. Whatever you can do to put the actives into the dermis deeper will help, especially if you have more serious problems like scarring and dermal hyperpigmentation. For me, I felt the dermarolling produced faster results in reducing the scarring than the ultrasound because (theorically) it mechanically breaks up the scar tissue, but it is a riskier, more invasive procedure. In time, the ultrasound might have produced the same results. I would approach it as a step by step approach. Try the ultrasound first. If that is not enough after a couple months, use the dermaroller (after researching it thoroughly), or use both gadgets, which is what I do. But the key for deep dermarolling is to space out the dermarolling and allow your skin to recover and rebuild. For me, I would not do it more than every 6-8 weeks. The ultrasound can be done more often.

I have a feeling neondaze is talking about Mexoryl, which is approved now in the US in the form of Anthelios SX. I personally tried the Anthelios from Europe and was not impressed at all. I tanned and freckled right through that stuff. I have had better results from a physical sunscreen than a chemical sunscreen, but I guess that is a very personal choice.

It will be very interesting to see how my pores fare now that I've given up the chemical based SS's and liquid foundation. I have never been able to distinguish what clogged my pores - as they have ALWAYS (well, since puberty) been clogged!!!

Hi everyone

I am been quite busy since Christmas and has not logged onto EDS for a while having to deal with my daughter's return from London recently and her decision to have bunion surgery. She is only 27. She will be having her operation tomorrow.

Having used 302 for about 4 months now, I am still fighting some hormonal acne (the red hard ones) on my chin area. I have been using the acne mist for about 2 weeks now but these pesky acnes are still there.

I now try to use 1 pump of the A Boost instead of two at night alternating with the 302 serum and have stopped using the C Boost for more than a week now to try to clear the acne up. Nemo actually recommended using half a pump of the A Boost but I have difficulty in getting half a pump out.

I noticed that I started getting these acnes (since February when I introduced the A & C Boost). Could it be that oil based drops/serums are not for me?

I have been using the 302 eye firming serum for 2.5 months. No great noticeable difference in my under eye area. But I do have some hatch lines there - is the 302 eye firming serum not moisturising enough?

Boski, do you know when the new formulation of 302 eye firming will be available? I am about to run out in about 2 weeks and will need to put another order in.

If it is going to take about 1 month or 2, I might try the Calm Skin eye serum.

Has anyone had positive results with the Calm Skin eye serum?

Ninetynine

Thanks for the info Boski- I am looking for anti aging so I guess I can continue with the occasional use of the cleanser! I find that all the calmskin stuff seems to have lots of greentea in it - especially the mist & the cleanser! But having said that I think I do prefer the 302 products but its nice to have the extra choice.

I've sent an email to Dr H and asked about the status of the new eye serum, the tinted SS, the tinted lip balm, and the Super 302. Hopefully, he is around because I haven't heard from him in a couple weeks.

Are you using the 302 actives on your eyes too? That should help. As for hormonal breakouts, it could be related to stress and/or diet. The lipids shouldn't be causing breakouts at this point unless you are using too much or overapplying them. You can try diluting with a mist or water too. Get the Ointment RX for the breakouts too. That is a very versatile product and is an SPF, healing cream, and moisture barrier. It's truly wonderful stuff. My red marks really fade alot faster when I use it. You can also apply the Ointment on top of the 302 actives to boost up the effectiveness.

I keep praising the merit of black current oil supplements, but I really think this is a good supplement for acne prones and people with skin issues like eczema and dry skin. I have not had one hormonal breakout on my chin since starting this about 6 months ago, and I used to breakout occasionally on the chin even with 302. But I have also given up dairy, sugar and refined carbs for the most part, so that may also have a part in it.

I have to agree about the Black Currant Oil, I did notice a reduction in both my eczema and breakouts in my chin after a month or two of starting this supplement. Granted, 302 definitely did the majority of fixing those problems, but I think the BCO definitely helped. I take 1000mg a day. I've really gotten back into taking supplements, and I also take Wheat grass from pines atleast once a day (you can get it at a good price at Vitacost.com!) and Flax Oil, an Alkaline Vit C, and Vitamin E. I also drink what I call the Tea Rainbow. Generally (though, do to travel I've been bad about this the last week) drink several glasses of tea a day, and try to get atleast one of each of the colors (Green, White, Red and Oolong) a day, for all there different benefits.

My skin is so dry from staying in hotels! I'm going to go slather it with some Ointment! Haha!

Hope you're all well!
