Tipping at a medi spa?

Hello everyone,

so I just bought a groupon for 2 lipo laser procedures at a medi spa for $120. The listed original value is $600. Am I supposed to tip for this type of procedure? If so, how much?

I'm confused because I wasn't even aware you were supposed to tip for these types of procedures but groupon has a notice telling you to tip... Did some extra googling but opinions seem split on whether or not tipping is necessary for laser procedures/medi spas. In addition, when I previously bought a groupon for IPL I didn't tip but I can't remember if there was little notification about tipping (all I remember is being asked to pay tax and that was all). Since I bought this deal as a gift for my mom I want to make sure I cover everything so she doesn't get an unwanted surprise when she heads off to the spa.

Wow, that is a thought. I never tip for my procedures at the med spa. They are usually done by the doctor, unless it is an IPL.
I always tip at the spa when I have a pedi, mani or massage.

I do not tip if a doc is doing the procedure. However, I always tip if its a nurse or aesthetician. With coupons I tip a percentage of the full original charge and not the Groupon. I would ask the med spa who is doing the procedure when you call to make the appt. for your mom - especially since this is for two treatments and you want to keep them sweet! Often these med spas will try and sell you a slew of extra services and whilst I appreciate that using coupon sites is a way of increasing business, be aware - as they are often very assertive. Also, dare I say, you may not be getting the most experienced practitioner. Having said that, I have found some real gems
through coupon sites and have been more than happy to return and pay the full whack!

My spa had a little sign that said "curious about tipping - 20% is suggested" which I thought was tacky. I was having $285 laser treatments ( my only luxury) and there was no way I was going to leave a $55 tip. I left $10-$15. The spa changed it procedure and I've noticed the receptionist marks through the tip line now, and I feel much more comfortable. I do believe that you got a good deal on groupon, so you could maybe leave a little more tip if you wish.

I dont think professionals (physicians, RNs, NPs) are ethically allowed to accept tips. Something else like GCs might be welcomed tho.

Ive had patients try to offer me monetary tips for giving them enemas, but of course I graciously decline and thank them for the appreciation!

Groupons and such are usually a really bad deal for the tech doing the actual work. I would suggest "better" tipping on coupons and deals.

I would also suggest any tip is better than nothing!

Although I can't imagine tipping for an enema. Smile
