The prices at lotioncrafter.com are far lower than SkinActives'.

Why do you suppose that's so? And which company do you prefer?

I prefer SkinEssentialActives.com where Im getting the pure active so that I can decide how much I want to use.

Some places sell predissolved actives in propylene glycol, glycerin, methylpropanediol and all that extraneous stuff. I would like to decide what I want to dissolve it in. Also, some places want us to believe we can just dump a vial of the active into a jar of their cream and voila! good to go. I prefer to make my own base from what I want to use, and know what the recommended % and solubility is. I dont like to be talked down to.

I have never found a better source for ultra fine L-Ascorbic Acid than Lotioncrafters.

For most of my other actives, Pure Bulk is my favorite supplier.

For butters, oils + molds for my lotion bars, Soap Goods is my go to place.

Price isn't as important to me as a speedy 2 or 3 day delivery.

Hi Veronica,

I can't tell you why our prices are lower than SkinActives (or if they are, because I haven't been to their site in a long time). But, I think SkinActives has a very different business model than Lotioncrafter. They appear to sell very small sizes of their products targeted primarily to the DIY market. We sell our products in many different sizes and cater to small and large businesses, as well as the DIY formulator.

While I may note a competitor's price on a product, when I bring one in, I determine what I feel is a reasonable markup up to allow us to cover our overhead, make a profit, and give our customers, many of whom are small businesses making products for resale, good value for their money. Because we sell to small and large businesses, we purchase many ingredients in large volume at prices that allow us to offer a savings to our customers.

We select our ingredients with care from the best manufacturers and we offer them at reasonable prices in keeping with our motto "Premium Ingredients at less than Premium Prices".

I hope this helps you see how we arrive at our prices on our products.

As for the first question...I guess Jen already answered it.

The second question: I order from many different sites according to quality and price. I get a lot of my "basics" from lotioncrafter (Emulsifiers, preservatives, hydrosols, etc.) but I get most of my botanical extracts from skinessentialactives. I don't order much from other sites. The Personal Formulator has a great selection of fd&c colors, and DIYcosmetics has the best fragrances imo.

I know lotioncrafter gets a lot of love for their l-ascorbic acid because it dissolves fast, but I always liked their niacinamide too. I have no idea why theirs would be any different from any other suppliers. But my skin seems to like it better. I always wondered why they didn't offer glucosamine as well.
