I wasn't sure where to post this, I think it's more of a medical thing than a skincare thing so decided to put it in here
Here's the problem, I seem to have developed a rather painful red lump under my left arm (armpit). It came up on Tuesday and I have managed to get a Dr appt for next Mon (winter is coming and apparently everyone is getting sick). In the meantime I'm wondering if anybody else has ever had the same/similar thing and what they've done about it? It's basically a fairly swollen hard red lump (about 1.5cm in diameter). It seems to be fairly close to the skin surface, and it really hurts! I thought it was going to be an ingrown hair or something but it really doesn't look like it. Unless it's some big cystic pimple...
The only thing I can think of is doing a salt soak (and I'll go do that right after I get off the computer).

Could be a clogged gland it it's in that area. I'm glad you're seeing the Dr tho. Keep us posted!! |

aww, poor Mabsy.
I can relate though. Almost every month right before my period, I get this lump under my arm and it is so uncomfortable, kinda feels like a pulled tiny, tiny hair under my arm. Gynocologist looked at it and palpatated the area and said it was a cyst that fills with fluid and really only thing to do is take warm baths and extra strength Tylenol.
I hope it's that simple for you on your visit. Please let us know how you make out with it, ok? |

Thanks ladies I did a warm salt bath and it feels a bit better. Glad nobody saw that though... I didn't want to dump a heap of salt and have a complete salt bath - just wanted to concentrate on the lump. Had to lock myself in the bathroom just in case people were wondering why on earth I'm sitting around and concentrating on pressing (and not spilling!) a cup of warm salt water to one of my pits! |

Hi Fantasia,
Well, the lump didn't go down by Monday so off to the Dr I went. I got a rather strong dose of antibiotics (2g of Cephalexin per day) and also an antibiotic ointment. Apparently, with lumps under your arms they don't muck around because they don't want to let anything else get infected. It seems to be an infected gland, if it doesn't go away by the time I finish all the medicine I have to go back. Problem is, the antibiotics are making me feel *so* tired, dizzy and queasy as well - I can barely eat anything! Can't wait to finish them off! In the meantime, while I'm feeling sorry for myself, I might just place an order with EDS and cheer myself up
Thanks for asking! Very sweet of you

I've had a swollen lymph node right before I was about to get sick, the size of a pea under my pit. Is this something similar? Hope you feel better |

Well, it's a good thing that the doctor feels that you just need antibiotics right now. I always seem to get a yeast infection while on antiobiotics though,
But you can never go wrong ordering goodies for yourself |

Thanks everyone I feel much better, or at least the lump does! I feel rather ill still from the antibiotics (seems that it really disagrees with my stomach). But it's nothing that a spot of retail therapy can't fix
Thoughtcrime - I think it's similar, mine grew to the size of a cherry on steroids, was red and starting to get way too painful.
Fantasia - I'm so praying that I don't get one! |

Isn't it nice how we feel comfortable enough to discuss such things to each other on this website. |

Like the rest of you, I LOVE those icons. I thought the ones some of you used were so neat, I had to click on the more emoticans link and find the others
