Girls,
I'm so sorry that your packages haven't arrived for some. Doba I was frantic last nast night trying to figure out why your package has yet to arrive because I more than doublechedcked the receipt from the post office on the zip code and als my computer where the shipping label was shipped and the address matched up. I just figured since priority is 2 days that it would have arried by now, but after hearing the variations are common even w priority it does ease my mind a tad.
Okay, since I don't use shampoo to wash my hair what can I do then if I don't mix it w my conditioner? What is it in conditioner that the
SKB reacts w ti flatten my curls that it doesn't w shampoo? I must admit though, my hair loves this stuff. |

I have loose waves and the SKB works fine - For those having build up or straigtening - try less SKB. I use only 1 part SKB to 3 parts leave in. |

Def more volume and shine.

Ari, how long is your hair? Even with just having 6-8 inches cut off last week, mine's still about bra-strap length and if I didn't run a conditioner through it in the shower, it would be one gigantic rat's nest! |
LOL, I didn't mean don't use conditioner, I meant you might not want to add SKB to your conditioner if it weighs your hair down. First try less SKB. If that doesn't work, don't put SKB in your conditioner. Use it after as a "stay-in" styling gel. Better in my opinion as it's there all day without getting rinsed out. More nutrition and gorgeous hair.

p.s. my hair is quite short, fine, easily tangled. But, I really think it's the ACV and distilled water rinse that reduces the tangles. |

I've been experimenting with SKB in a leave-in ACV wash (half and half ACV and water + Teasp SKB). The first time I didn't mix it well enough and had one stiff spot in my hair but when I make sure to mix very well so I do not see any swirls of SKB my hair has more body than it used to. |

No, no need for the fridge. It is self-preserving and won't need refrigeration. That is, it won't need refrigeration as long as you don't stick your fingers in it or add anything to it. Once you add actives you'll need to add a preservative or store your concoction in the fridge.

Hi everyone. Just finished reading .. most of this thread (heh, it's pretty long.) Anyways, I am very interested in this Stuff. It seems amazing!
I was just wondering if there is still time/room to purchase the kelp group-wise? I know I'm a little late and all...
Also do you gals know if this sea kelp could be used directly as an eye cream with only a cosmaceutical added, such as Haloxyl? Would it be too umm flaky or would it not completely absorb? Does anyone that has experience in using this kelp as a base for an eye cream care to heh share with us gals the % they use of it when mixing it with other ingredients.
Thanks a bunch~ |

Parentsaver, the SKB will flake off if used alone. It's great for eyecream but is best mixed into a cream. A lovely use is to take an eyecream you adore and add just a bit to it like 4 parts eyecream to 1 part SKB.

I too have below the shoulder naturally wavy hair, it used to be curly when I was younger. I'm using the skb in my shampoo and my hair is thicker and straighter looking. I wear a pony-tail to work so this effect is great for me. If I air dry it, it is alittle wavier. I have not tried it in conditioner. Great stuff!!! |

Ooops! Sorry, I didn't read your original post very well! Gotcha on how to add to conditioner ... canNOT wait to try this stuff!
I'm thinking of mixing this stuff in with a spray-on leave-in conditioner and trying to make sure my scalp gets treated with it. Will SKB be "liquid-y" enough to go through a spray nozzle? |

You'd have to add a lot of distilled water to break it down enough to spray. I think a dab rubbed in your palms and run through your hair (short or long) works best. JMHO

I am soooo excited to receive my SKB. Would you all post what recipes you're using/planning to use with the SKB?
I am planning to make Katee's eye potion, and add this to my shampoo, conditioner, & leave-in.
Ari - the shampoo that you mentioned, you use 50%SKB & 50% aloe, do you add anything else?
I'd also like to use this for body lotion, does anyone have a recipe for that? Or will you just add it to whatever you're currently using? I was concerned about it growing excessive body hair though.
I may also make the face cream, but I'm experiencing a major breakout right now & so will wait until my face calms down. |
First, do use the Sea Kelp on your face with aloe vera. It will help calm the breakouts. If you can use Salicylic Acid, crush some aspirin and combine with the SKB for a wash.
For the shampoo, I posted my recipe on SAS way back in June (I think). Someone gave it to Katee and she posted it here. Do a search on shampoo with Katee as author. You'll see a thread called "Katee's shampoo variations". You'll see I put a lot of nutrients in my shampoo 'cause I'm older and my hair and scalp need them. Use the basics of SKB, Aloe, Honey, distilled water and surfactant (for sudsing) to start and add whatever you want to make it your own. I use a gentle surfactant called Cocamidopropyl Betaine. You can get it atwww.theherbarie.com very cheap. Just a few ml. per bottle of shampoo is all you need. When you're mixing it, take a little and wash your hands. That'll tell you whether you need more surfactant or not. After the first time you'll just know how much to put in.

Thanks for the recipes Ari! I went a little SKB crazy & started adding it to everything in site! |

That's perfectly alright! SKB is pure nutrition. Happy mixing.

I can see how it might affect curls as when I first mixed it with the ACV rinse I had a stiff spot. My hair is long, baby fine and straight as a board. When I mixed a tiny bit in to the AVC rinse and made sure it was mixed well it made my hair fluffier and even a bit wavy. |

Might try this then, incorporating the SKB well with an ACV rinse. If this way it enchances curls for me even better!
How much of the SKB to the ACV rinse, as of now I do about 1 tablespoon of ACV to 2 cups of water. |

Julie,
good question.
I am also interested in how to make good ACV "conditioner".
BTW, several people commented about my hait - look so much better since I started using sea kelp.

Really that's excellent! I read somewhere else where ppl said it made their hair wavy, so if I can figure out what to mix the SKB to enhance my curls then great. There are days I want to straighten it so at those times I'd mix it with conditioner if need be. |

May I ask why you use distilled water with your ACV, rather than just using the running water from the shower? |

I'm not a chemist or anything. But, I've gotten into the habit of using distilled water in all my water-based potions since I don't want chlorine or fluoride, or any any of the minerals, etc. found in tap in my "stuff". That might seem a bit strange and counter-intuitive since I just took a shower with regular tap water but.....there you are. Besides, distilled water has nothing in it to harbor or feed unwanted organisms since I don't use preservatives in my water-based stuff.

Okay..one last question (yeah right, who am I kidding )
When you make your ACV rinse do you have a batch already made and then you just use portions at a time? What I do is I keep like a rubbermaid tupperware in the bathtub and fill it with 1 tablespoon of ACV everytime and just dilute each time I wash my hair.
Wonder if I were to make it in advance and then add the little bit of SKB to the already made ACV rinse if that'll work. Would I need to refridgerate this or can I add some perservative to it..if that's even necessary. |
