My 5-year-old daughter has beautiful waist-length, blonde, very fine hair.
I came home from a business trip last year and she had a massive tangle in the center of her hair. It was due to swimming with a face mask and taking it on and off every day with no one brushing her hair afterwards.
I was loathe to cut 6" of her hair off and there was no way to cut out the horrible tangle - it was about 2" x 1" and totally matted together. Nothing I tried would pry it loose.
I went to the local drug store and bought 5 or 6 items, sprays and conditioners - anything I could find that said "detangler". I tried everything with no success!
About ready to give up, I called a friend who is a beautician. She said that at her beauty school, even though they didn't sell Paul Mitchell's product line, they always had a bottle of "The Detangler" there for those kids and adults with impossible tangles. She brought me home a small bottle that night and told me to take my daughter in the shower with a wide tooth comb, and keep applying the conditioner and working it with my fingers, and ultimately a comb, until the hairs began to unlock.
It took 30 minutes in the shower, and occasionally my daughter complained, but we got every last tangle out and spared having to cut her hair.
I keep a bottle of Paul Mitchell's "The Detangler" in my linen closet and it has never failed us.
