Hello All
So I ewent to the derm last week about my frustration with my skin issues. It has been going on for most of my adult life, but up until 7 months ago, it was tolerale.
So I have used probably ever OTC product, from Clearasil, Murad, Neutrogena, to proaciv, to all sorts of RX's...Retin-A, Tazorac and Benzeclin. Some helped, nothing helped so dramatically that I continued. So after reading some posts on here and doing some research and asked my derm for FINACEA. I read it was for Roscsa, but many people use it for acne as well.
I picked up my prescription on Wednesday. I have used it Wed (once) Thursday (twice) and Friday (twice). Here are my findings.
I have still had a couple breakouts, places where I normally would, however I have had three pimples in three days. I normally get 6-8 a day. No whiteheads-NONE, how could I have NONE? I get them off and on throughout the day. The best things ever so far, I have had three small (very small) sebaceous cysts, (you know the tiny ones that you think are clogged pores, but you can never extract them?), and I have been applying a small glob of my Finacea cream on them at night and two of them are GONE, I am not kidding GONE. I have tried everything on them. My derm told me that I would probably have to have them removed.
One last thing, I had some old acne marks and hyperpigmentation on the sides of my face that I normally hide from because I can not cover them up, well those are getting lighter already. I looked in my mirror in my car, no makeup on them and they are fading. (even my BF said he thought my skin looked really clear)...
I am very pleased so far. This is a very early review on FINACEA, and we will see if it continues to improve things. I am keeping my fingers crossed, and I will keep you all updated.  |

The active is azaleic acid, btw, which used to be available from skinactives, but doesnt appear to be, any longer. I would quite like to find a source for DIY-ing.. |
I'm not using it right now but the Finacea is 15% azelaic acid and its a gel whereas the alldaychemist one is a cream. You could try Australian pharmacies cos I read that over there, Finacea is a OTC rather than a prescription med. |

Skinactives does have an azelaic acid derivative called Azeloyl Glycine. I don't know how effective it will be compared to azelaic acid, but it's said to be anti-bacterial, anti-rosacea, anti-comedogenic, anti-acne and anti-melasma.
Azeloyl Glycine is recently added to Skinactive's product range. 10 ml is $9.50. It's supposed to be added to a cream or SKB to a maximum of 10 % concentration.

Scots, I have used one whole container of both products. I use them only in the winter months... not sure how long that actually took.
I had ZERO irritation. In fact I noticed practically immediate benefit. Really excellent product for me.
Do get some samples if you can. I think Eluage is more sophisticated than Ystheal, with hyaluronic acid in a format that penetrates very well.
The cream is very 'creamy', I actually find it soothing to apply.
Fingers crossed on this new plan, eh! |

Oh, you guys, you're killing me! I won't know how to behave if I don't have to blot my face every hour! And not to have to buy out the entire rack of blotting tissues at the drugstore and Ulta every two months, so I can put them everywhere - purses, car, dressing table, you name the place - the sales help will wonder what's going on!
Okay. Trying to remain calm here. I will be sensible and keep my expectations under control. I don't know how my skin will react to Finacea yet. Measured breaths.
That's great, bergquis!!! We will keep pulling for you and everyone else having success with Finacea - no jinx! And thank you for the tip on copays. I think our copay is a little lower on scripts - $20 or so. I can't imagine why my derm wouldn't prescribe Finacea for me; she's always willing to go let me try things. But if for some reason she won't, I'll order online, too.

| Hi everyone. Thanks to Bergquis enthusiastic review I decided to give azelaic acid another go. I went to my doctor over a year ago and he told me that there was no such thing as Finacea in Canada so he wrote me a prescription for a 15% azelaic gel and a local pharmacy compounded it for me. Only problem was that they used an alcohol base that just sucked every ounce of moisture out of my skin so I had to quit using it after a few days. When I went to my doctor this time I had him specifically request a water base. Anyway I have been using it since Saturday and have noticed an incredible improvement already. My skin was super oily (oily all over withing a 1/2 hour after washing) and a couple of new pimples a day. I have been using Tazorac for the past year which helped a great deal with the breakouts but seemed to make my skin oilier - I would blot every half hour - it was that bad. What I've found after starting the azelaic acid is that I've only had two new pimples since Saturday - usually I'd have 8 to 10 new ones in that time. But what I really love is that my skin is about 1/10 as oily as it usually is and seems to be getting less oily everyday!. I wish I knew about this stuff years ago. I'm 43 and have had bad skin since I was 12. Beter late than never! Zephyr I think your going to love this stuff! |

Thanx. Just realized I didn't follow up with your ? about where I purchased the jojoba. Bought it online from http://www.pureandsimple.ca/2005/ They're located in TO and have some good stuff. I paid 16.95 for 100 ml of beautiful organic oil. It lasts forever as you only need a few drops with ea. use. Look under their own Pure + Simple Skin Care menu.
