Quick Take: fantastic delivers upon the promise
Catching up on on my reviews..... NOTE: Now that the temps are cooler, I still use NCN Firming Liquid Minerals --- but for long nights or warm days where I know my liquid minerals won't hold up, MUFE Mat Velvet + was truly, TRULY a great find.
My hunt for a makeup that could last in the heat started last spring when I moved to an area about 20 degrees warmer than I'm used to. The first day I spent time in this heat, I applied my standard MMU. Then was absolutely HORRIFIED when I dashed into the ladies and saw my makeup running down my face like tiny little streamlets. ohmigod, how many people saw me like that before I caught it???? It was very hot that day, but yikes!
So my search began for a foundation that'll hold up to the heat, or at least won't stream off in such an obvious way when I perspire..... During my period of trial and error with various brands, I simply did without makeup during the day. Thankfully my skin is clear enough to get away with this!
I have a lot of demands for foundation.
1. Buildable coverage - I usually prefer sheer, but sometimes I may need a little more coverage. Mat Velvet is flexible in this area. If you want sheer, start with one thin layer. An amount slightly smaller than a pea or larger than a pearl will cover your entire face. If you need to additional coverage, wait about 30 seconds then apply a tiny amount to the desired area.
2. Application - I want something that'll work with either brush or fingertips. When I'm out for the day, I may not always have a brush with me but I always have my fingertips along for the ride! At home, I apply in small dots on forehead, use fingertips to distribute it evenly, then finish off with a synthetic foundation brush. Note.... unlike my NCN Liquid Minerals, the advantage of MUFE is that it doesn't look streaky if you apply only with fingertips....
3. Non-irritation, oil free - My skin is pretty much normalized now with an oily T-zone. I have zero tolerance for anything that's gonna ruin my beautiful skin and after nearly 3 months of daily use, this certainly filled the bill. No breakouts or clogged pores resulting from this foundation, but it goes without saying that I NEVER fall asleep without washing off my makeup. Ooh, relatively shine-free as well!
4. The entire point of finding another foundation in place of my lovely mineral makeup is that I needed something that'll stay on in the heat. Mat Velvet accomplishes this better than anything else I've tried. There IS a little transfer, but not noticeable. After being out in the intense heat for 7 hours, foundation came off when I mopped my my sweating forehead with a tissue but when I checked in the mirror, my coverage was still even and I just looked like I had a healthy glow.
Another advantage, although this is pretty much the same as my standard liquid minerals. A little truly goes a long way. I still have 3/4 of a bottle left.
Shades are hard to match. When I looked this up online, I thought the #40 would be a good match for me, but when I went to Sephora, it turns out the #30 (porcelain) turned out to be a much better match. This was extremely apparent after the MA applied a swatch to my cheek and I stepped outside with a mirror to check the color match. MUFE isn't as forgiving as NCN, so finding the correct match is much more critical.
To be honest, I don't care too much for the long list of ingredients on this product - I prefer natural and organic skincare whenever possible; nevertheless, if you need a makeup that'll hold up in the heat and is a little more resistant to sweat and perspiration, this was a great find.
Huge thumbs up.... |
