It's us green/hazel eyed lot that are most susceptible to the change in iris color, because of the natural bits of brown pigment we have naturally..
The risky part is that if indeed the brown pigment starts to spread out, there is no stopping it.. Even stopping Lumigan application won't halt it. And once it happens it cannot be reversed.
The other thing is, in most cases it doesn't happen till 6 months, a year or even more into treatment.. It can also happen to some after even short term Lumigan use, and doesn't show up for a year or more..
I'm 13 months into an average 3 X per week use, with occassional 2 week breaks, and recently noticed a *teensy* bit more brownish gold speckles around my pupils.. (Barely noticable without a 10X magnifying mirror). Time will tell if it continues to spread...
Okay, curiosity just got the better of me and I took a flashlight and looked in the magnifying mirror... I have a definite change in color all around the entire pupil in both eyes.. It is a paleish gold like 'cat' eyes in a complete 1/8th " circle around each pupil.. (If anybody can tell me how to capture a closeup with a camera or webcam, I'll post the pictures.) I don't know how to do it, that the flash wouldn't make it blank.. Does a webcam use a flash..
I would also tell you guys that overall I don't think the change in my length at this point was worth the risk involved in using a serious medication, just to increase what were already fairly long/dense lashes.. And I happen to like gold/brown eyes, so that isn't an issue really.
I'll keep ya posted on increased changes, or the lack thereof.. Let me know about the picture bit, for those in the know. |

That's interesting, Kassy, as your new color is gold and not brown. I have a dark limbal ring around my iris and I love it so I'll be watching very carefully. Thanks for all the fascinating info. |
It's goldish for now, *if* it continues to darken, or spread further, I'll keep everybody informed.. |

Oh, pictures gone? Ok, I saw it, and yes it looked reddish and not goldish.
That said, I honestly thought that Lumigan could emphasise the brown/or a darkening in the iris, rather than lightening it to the gold you describe, Kassy. And that's really puzzling and worrying me.
I know that you were particularly concerned that an iris change might occur - so it's ironical (to say the least) that this should happen to you!
I'm certainly feeling wary of Lumigan now... - but, yes, I agree that you were right to post your findings/experience. So, thankyou. |
I tried to crop the picture so it would be more closeup, but I don't know how to enlarge it. (That is why I removed the picture.)
I hope I'm wrong, but I feel a decided undertone to your post, as if you are accusing me of being deceitful.. What it is, is what it is, and the more than 500 people who viewed this thread since the picture was posted, can decide for themselves. I know if someone else had shared a picture of a side effect related to something lots of us are using, I would be very grateful about it. But that's just me..
For the record, I was no more concerned about color change to the iris, than anyone else.. Sure, I would have preferred my eyes to remain a solid green, but I'm not losing sleep over these changes.
Here is the picture again, which is now cropped for what I hope is a better closeup.. It's still showing a reddish color in the picture, but I assure you it is gold/amber in person. But regardless of some slight variation in the color I'm describing, isn't the point loud and clear, that I'm experiencing color change to my iris after 1 year of Lumigan use?
