Pitted scars (the "holes") are quite difficult to treat. Fastest results would be by going to see a dermatologist. Taking collagen supplements are not likely to help with those (maybe at most slight improvement but the effect would wear off as soon as you stop taking them and they don't come cheap so it's probably not a good long term solution). Taking MSM and vitamin C would be less costly (this provides raw materials for collagen synthesis). It has to be the OptiMSM or Linguisil form of MSM for best effect.
It is important to make sure that you are using a high protection sunscreen and ENOUGH of it (1.25mls) or else UV rays from the sun is likely to make your situation deteriorate even further (probably the situation arises because you don't use sufficient sun protection in the first place). Using the sunscreen would be important even if you do consult a dermatologist as you would maintain the results of your treatment better. Or else repeated visits to the dermatologist would be quite costly to you. |

I was wondering if taking collagen supplements can help the acne scars heal? Because my acne scars sort of look like small holes in my face and I read that scars are formed due to the loss of collagen. I realised that in the past, I dont get acne scars when I have a zit. But as I grew older, this happens! So I guess it's something to do with me not making enough collagen? WHat do you think? |
Hi Faeriedust and Others ,
The supplements alone will not do anything to improve your acne scars. The scars are actually buried under your skin covered over by better skin. CPs and Hydroxy Acids can help improve acne scars. The scars have been covered over, but as the skin naturally thins from aging they become more obvious. Kind of like a mystery?
It is a "Breakdown/Buildup" process. Hydroxy's will help to breakdown the scar tissue while CPs stimulate new collagen production to rebuild the skin. Some use needling techniques and dermarollers to help with breaking up the scars at the same time amplifying product penetration. Retin-A also works well with CPs when it comes to scar reduction.
It is a slow process, but acne-related scars can be fully healed using this method.
Supplements, like MSM, Vit C, Omega 3 Fish Oil & Flaxseed Oil will help with the rebuilding of the new skin along with CPs.
Hope that helps a little more!
