I was on the fence about the Brazilian Blowout. Initially, the comments that I read on other boards complained about the harshness and chemicals...then all that smoothed over and now I hear nothing but raves! Soooo, I went ahead and had it done (The Acai Brazilian blowout) by a very reputable salon. After applying the shampoo, washing my hair twice and then applying the keratin product, I thought hmmmm this isn't so bad. Well then we got to the blow dry stage and I literally could not breath (seriously) had to get up and go outside more than once. And during this process I thought "what the heck is in this stuff" it is so harsh. Only then did my stylist confess that there's formaldehyde and other harsh chemicals. I finished the process, blow dry and then flat iron. My hair did get super straight and was alot easier to blow out after, BUT it did change the color of my hair (heads up for all you blonds out there) and I wasn't crazy about my hair being so "flat".

If you have alot of curl and frizz to your hair I"m sure this treatment is a lifesaver. But for me the chemicals are not worth the risk. I won't be doing it again.

Whoa, that is crazy! So the reformulated Blowout products still contain aldehydes? How could they believe they would pull one over on the FDA?
Are we sure about this?

Here are some of the recent news reports about the testing in Oregon and in Canada. I am hesitant to subject myself to the chemicals for another treatment but I REALLY worry about the health of the dedicated stylists who are performing these treatments all the time.

Hi
my salon was doing the brazilian blowdry, but we have decided to stop because of my staff feeling ill after doing the treatment on clients. this happened to 2 of my staff, we were doing about 3 treatments a week, but found we had clients always changing and cancelling their appointments sowhen you book out 2 to 3 hours per client it wasnt worth us carrying on anyway.
the one we were using is meant to be chemical free but there must have been somthing in it to make people feel ill.
as regards to the hairbreaking 6 months later, i did wander when we were doig the treatment we had to use the straightners very very slow, i think this would be the reason the hair could probably become fragile rather then the actual treatment itself.
i even had the bowdry myself and found it ok not fabulous.
