I know we have a supplier listing on the recipe index, however questions about ingredients come up often so I thought a thread with listings to information about ingredients might be helpful. These are basic ingredients mostly so I would love to see others added eg. Essential Oils, Carrier Oils ect. ect.

This is a fabulous topic DM. It will be a wonderful addition to the DIY sticky page.

Here's a nice site with brief descriptions of lots of popular actives;

http://www.aurasnaturebeauty.org/ingredients.htm#Glycolic_Acid

Lots of info on tons of ingredients here;

http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/formulary.html

This site has lots of info on carrier oils;

http://www.aromaweb.com/articles/whatcarr.asp

My quick 'go to' for skin care actives info is still;

http://www.smartskincare.com/ingredients/glossary/ (LOL! I just saw you have this covered already!)

Here's a nice site for everything about 'essential oils';

http://www.aromaweb.com/essentialoils/default.asp

This site is a great place to look up the ingredient lists for all high end skin care products;

Great topic, DM.

I can't take credit for this site, because jasminerosey turned me on to it but it has lots of information about essential oils. What I especially like is how they are interested in the scientific side of essential oils:

There are too many to list but some essential oils are best avoided during pregnancy. Some encourage menstruation, some can cause miscarriage, some high or low blood pressure. I would google what essentials to avoid during pregnancy and print it out.

Ohhh my! I did now that essential oils were powerful, but not That powerful - I will definitely google it!

Yes extracts as well, in the old days they would use some specifically to cause a miscarriage if there was an unwanted pregnancy.
