Yes, I have them and love them!

No, they're not sand filled. The larger ball is placed under your head (you do it lying down), but most of the time I do it in bed so I just use the small ball on my face while laying on a pillow.

I love using the ball not only 'opens out' my face but also as I use it and breathe and relax I can feel tension in the back of my head and neck relaxing/releasing, and elsewhere too.

For those using safetox I find they work well together.

For those doing face exercises I find, again, they're a nice thing to use alongside.

Hi Toby!!! thanks for the welcome Smile

The ball workout makes my face look - and feel - way more relaxed and open - I have horizontal lines (since my early 30s!), and sometimes light 11s which come and go depending on eyestrain and relaxation in that area and face exercises, massage, etc... Definitely makes me look younger as a result of that. It opens out the face, Yamuna says that it also helps with sinus tension and headaches when done regularly.

And it feels sooooo good to do! Imagine a cross between a wonderful shiatsu (or acupressure) and a gentle (not painful) rolfing (or deep tissue massage).

Yesterday I used the safetox (hadn't used it much for ages cos I was travelling), and afterward did the yamuna face workout. The lines I had beforehand were no longer visible and this morning they are still barely visible (will do another workout after I post this and then they'll probably disappear again).

You roll and press the ball along bone but also smooth/iron out the fascia at the same time (as per rolfing/deep tissue), stopping at points and, I guess, pressing along the way (as per shiatsu, or if you prefer, acupressure) and just relaxing into it. When I do this, I feel muscles at the back of my head and all over the place, including digestion areas opening up and relaxing. It's gotta be good for the health!!!!

At the moment, being a bit lazy with face exercises I will often do some FE upper face and then Ageless for the eyes and rest of the face, and then I'll do a (yamuna) ball routine - not taking as long as the DVD but usually around 15-20 mins, all while still lying in bed. It's a GREAT way to wake me up. I'm a zombie in the mornings but after I'm done with this routine I feel awake and refreshed (great when I have to get up earlier than I'd like!). Definitely energizing. Of course face exs are too, but the combo is great! (my only issue is to remain consistent, cos sometimes I jump straight on the computer and/or then run out of time - a no no for health!!!!!) It can also be helpful for headaches, esp with a combo of safetox and/or face exs, massage, etc…

With the ball routine there's definitely some lifting effect too - including with cheeks, and I'm sure helps NLs (though I don't have lines, just folds there). I even felt my baby jowls were improving when I was doing it really regularly (just getting back to regularity now after being crazy busy the last few weeks of my traveling), though I can't say for sure, didn't take photos. Of course the lifting effect is going to be temporary (just like safetox) if you don't use it much. However with regular use it may, like the safetox, help retrain some muscles, and thus change the way we hold our faces, cos the muscles would be learning that they have other choices besides just staying in a chronically contracted state!

Some years ago I went thru a period where I was doing a lot of bodyrolling (BR) - this was way before Yamuna developed her faceballs. So when I found out about the faceballs I already had an idea of what it might be like.

I loved BR when I was doing it a lot and would carry a small ball or two around with me when traveling too. I also fell in love with the Franklin Method (using body imagery - and also balls and therabands) back then, but then I became a callanetics addict (and still am) and hey, there's only so much time in the day, and as you know there is soooo much we are all doing to look after ourselves! My BR balls need pumping up now, I'd like to get back to doing it again, though it would be less regularly than I had in the past due to lack of time. But actually BR after a callanetics workout would be great to do!

If you are able to buy the 'save your face' DVD separately from the balls you can probably substitute them, though the faceballs are made specially to feel softer and nicer on the skin, so I don't mind having bought the whole kit. I bought mine on Amazon, it was cheaper than on Yamuna's site.

I don't think there's anything more I can add, but ask away if you think of anything.

I just got this four days ago and I love it. It may be the most instantly effective thing I have tried from EDS. It feels so great that I have twice done it in the afternoon after already doing it in the morning. It is quite addictive!

I got it originally because I thought it might help prevent bone loss (I have periodontal issues), but I can tell it really relaxes and opens the face. Even after using it once, I felt like I looked younger. I also think it is a great adjunct to facial exercise.

Are you girls that are getting results doing both sides everyday? I am. This is I think my third day. I took before and afters and it looks like i had botox in the brows, botox in the chin(ive had it before to help the snarl) and somethin to plump cheeks. I skipped yoga to do the yaumun dvd, lol. I hope I can keep it up, time wise. I can't tell the boyfriend i have to stay in and work on my face, lol

A special thanks to Sunrise for her review of the Yamuna Save Your Face program. I ordered and have been using it a couple of weeks and really like the results. It is relaxing and something I am doing right after I wake up in the morning...should do it before bed as well. As others have noted my face looks rested and relaxed and lifted. I think for the long term there will be very positive results with bone and alignment. I will say the dvd is long and not one that you want to pop in and do your workout with...too long because it is from an actual class. But the information is really good and should be watched several times to get the technique correct. I called the company after using it a week and asked about purchasing an additional face ball....working two at a time would get my total face down in half the time. They said they hadn't had a request for an additional ball before. I think I will continue with one ball and decide later about an additional ball. The concept makes sense to me, especially since Deb Crowley has brought the idea of bone loss in the face and has developed some techniques in her new Flexeffect edition to improve it. The Yamuna program is encouraging bone growth as well and encouraging relaxing the muscles and bone to their proper placement.....tension and age tends to draw the face inward. Anyway, I really like it and plan to order more of her programs in the future for the body.

Toby how does this compare to facial exercises? Is it purely complimentary or do you think it would act well also being used alone?
Everyone is different with their needs, age, and face shape. For me I can see opening with the entire face and a lift in the cheeks that I haven't seen before. The n/l area is nice and smoothed out. I still rely on the Safetox for the forehead but that is due to my age and area of intense frowning. But I will say it is nicely handling that area. Is it a stand alone techinique??? I am not sure, it would depend on the needs of the individual. Is it complimentary to facial exercises....you bet!!!!It feels good, wakes me up in the morning, and in the long run is going the thicken bone and keep the facial skeleton in alingment. As I see it....win win situation! Very Happy

How does Yamuna's face look? I can't really tell from the video, but it looks at least like she doesn't have any sag.

I'm thinking of getting this for my Mom for Mother's day. Not sure if it will get here in time, but that's okay. She has sinus and headache problems, and this sounds like it would help with that.

Hi Ryan,

There is a black and white photo here I think is fairly recent:

http://yamunabodyrolling.com/studio/teachers/

From her video, it looks as if her genetics tend toward gauntness. She is very slim and lean and her face reflects that. It's not a classically beautiful look but I seriously doubt there is much she could do other than surgically adding fat to her face, etc. She seems like she values inner beauty far more than the superficial. And really, that is the quality that shines and "makes her beautiful."

There is another lady I know locally who is a spiritual counselor and she is incredibly wrinkled for her age... looks much older than her years, but absolutely sparkles with radiance. Smile

Yamuna might be what I call 'handsome.' And really I could hope to have that inner peace.

I just thought I would share my results. I did order the video, but only watched part of it once. I emailed the company and they sent me a PDF of their written instructions which I printed off and really like as they have a 5 minute, 15 minute and 30 minute option.
It does lift my face. To be specific, as oddly as it may seem, it lifts the sides of my eyes up. It also smooths the lines around my mouth and the N/L area. It lifts the corners of my mouth up, which I hadn't even realized were sagging until they moved back up. The jawline lifts also.
I usually do this at night and Tanaka massage in the morning. The effect of the Tanaka massage seems to be enhanced by doing Yamuna the night before.
I haven't done the 30 minute option, just the five and fifteen minute.

It is refreshing and something that should be encouraged but as this is talking about bone, I think its really crucial to be realistic about what in essence is being described here. Bone loss (or its not really loss its diminishment) is well known for happening arounded the dread MO and heaven forbid if you go into that early (yep I did) and so if people aren’t at that stage yet (and please may they never get to that) where the hormones go out of whack you notice a whole load of changes, but bone diminishment or strengthen lessening is one of them. Its interesting for me as I began thinking I had arthritis because I had always been a typist and suddenly started having these strange sensations and just thought it must be old age. Family doctor sent me for blood tests and my hormones were just well out of whack. No surprise considering everything I was going through at the time on top of normal aging but it definitely impacts the body for sure. So I approached both Yumana and FlexEffect with an open minded not convinced about either, but both have given me changes that I’ve noticed. I do like Yumana because it is so relaxing and that in itself is highly beneficial.

Deb of FlexEffect has done various levels of research and that’s worth considering, but also for me a large part of the proof is in the results you see yourself when you look in the mirror. Yumana has you do half the face first and then encourages you to check out both sides in the mirror. Also its not simply pushing, but a prolonged pushing done for a period of time and the fact it has a visible result you can see is important in my book.

It is refreshing to see someone on this board actually question the legitimacy of the claims made for this (or any) device; all too often members blindly accept what they are told or read without any critical thinking or analysis. So kudos to you carlingus!

In my opinion, simply pushing on a bone does absolutely nothing, and the antiaging claims made by the seller's website are ridiculous. Logically speaking, there is no reason why manual pressure would "stimulate the facial bones, prevent bone loss, keep the bones aligned and lifted, and keep the muscles adhering to their attachments and the bone itself". If you find this treatment relaxing and it's non-irritating to your sensitive skin (and you are willing to put in the time and effort), then I would suggest that you continue to use the Yamuna - just don't expect any miraculous antiaging benefits. Just consider it a type of massage; a unique variation that uses air-filled balls rather than your hands.

I agree, and I bet if you see results as well that’s proof enough for you (it is for me personally). With the lift, you may not notice any if you haven’t got any sagging etc, but the benefits you mention alone make it worthwhile doing in my opinion. Yamuna isn’t so much focused on the outside but the inside, bone etc and so it may not be immediately apparent but I think like most things the longer you do it the more cumulative the effects are.

I’d also love to see some controlled studies on bone stimulation and facial exercises but I’m not going to put off doing them till they show up.

I'm so happy I got a couple responses!

My feeling is, if it feels good and isn't hurting me then I don't see any reason NOT to do it. I try and use the yamuna ball time as a sort of meditation. I rarely meditate during the work week, maybe 3 times a week tops, and so my yamuna time is for deep breathing and clearing my mind of outside thoughts to help supplement my actual meditation time. In this sense, it is definitely beneficial and meditation is widely considered a healthy, cortisol lowering, blood pressure lowering practice. But...I don't notice real 'lift' of any kind after I use the balls. I also don't notice any changes in the quality of my skin, it's not any more luminous or relaxed looking. Feeling, yes but not looking. The idea of bone stimulation is great, I'd love to think I'm setting my face up to age gracefully, but maybe it's good enough for me to know that I'm taking some quiet time to feel good and not give a crap if it's making me 'look' better?

I'd love to see controlled studies on bone stimulation...long term effects of something like this?

Carly

Lacy you are kidding me here right. There’s a massive difference. Did you actually try the Yamuna workout? For me that’s the real proof in the pudding itself. Sleeping on a mattress with a pillow under the head cant compare to this workout and its silly for anyone to think it does. Yamuna has a specific sequence of steps, but the rolling and pressing is very specific and done in sequence and context. Its kind of like saying no massage is good for you if you sleep at night – worlds apart both important but both very different things.
Lacy53 wrote:
Why bother doing a long term study on something like this? Don't you sleep night after night with a pillow under your head/face and your body resting on a mattress? I don't see how that is mechanically different from rolling and pressing a ball over your face or body; both apply pressure to the bones. As far as I know, no one has ever claimed that reclining during sleep is anti-aging or is "bone stimulation". Am I missing something?
