Kassy's serum is a good solid serum. As long as you sterilize everything and don't stick your fingers in the bottle, it should keep rather well. The pH is low and not too many microorganisms appreciate that environment. Some do though, so a preservative is not a bad idea if you are not comfy with your own prep cleanliness.
It will Not extend the usable life of the serum. It will only prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi.
1. Won't need to test the pH on that one.
2. Keep in a vacuum bottle to reduce oxidation
3. Keep in fridge
4. Keep it out of the light as that also speeds up oxidation of C.
If I recall correctly that recipe has had the Ferulic acid reduced to 1/8 tsp. [ only need 0.15 grams for 0.5% ] Either way in this case, it won't cause a problem. With other actives, it can be quite problematic.
If you want to get fancy with increasing the % you calculate what you need...and weigh it.

A couple drops of Polysorbate 80 will help to marry the oils and give you a smooth serum.
Have fun! |
