The lipid portion of the skin barrier is primarily comprised of cholesterol, ceramides and saturated fatty acids (stearic and palmitic); cholesterol particularly depletes as we age. No clear oils are rich in these lipids: good sources include shea butter, palm fruit oil, lecithin and lanolin.
If you want a clear oil maybe try olive squalane which is closely related to a major component of sebum? I find oils absorb far better when blended in the hand with a humectant, my favourite is aloe vera gel. |
