Yup, some of the comments in this thread have really offended me, and triggered all sorts of things in me.
Of course we all believe in healthy living and detox, but how can you judge a woman who's been witness to her own mom dying of cancer. The loss of her breasts may have been worth every bit TO HER if only to help alleviate her fears.
I am certainly of the opinion that healthy living, detox and perhaps the latest in natural trends is the way to go for the vast majority of us. How do you know she doesn't believe the same? But I haven't had to live with the scare of cancer in my family. Could you imagine terror striking your hearts every day while you're raising young kids? From what I understand that kind of worry is cancer causing to begin with and can't be good for ANY of them.
Removing my breasts would not be my personal choice, but I have the luxury of growing older viewing my breasts as a vibrant, healthy, sexy part of me. Not ticking time bombs. Please try to have some compassion for women in this situation. Their thinking may not be correct, and they may even know it, but some of us know how hard it can be to reverse ingrained thoughts/feelings which adversely affect our daily lives. |

I do not find Angelina to be any kind of "saint", nor do I feel her choice was particularly inspirational or worthy of all the public fawning and high-flying panygerics to her virtue that have been going on. She did what she did because she could. She has that fundamental God-given right, especially since her actions objectively and demonstrably hurt *no one*. The press has always been unaccountably obsessed with Brangelina, so going public to control the spin was probably the most rational choice she had. I don't really like her but in this instance blame her for nothing.
Her work for the UN probably means at best nothing more than she sincerely believes it's the right thing to do. At worst it probably means that she's doing it to appear altruistic and receive credit for doing something good when in reality she's not doing much at all. I'm no fan of the UN, myself, but to think there's a human conspiracy (the "Illuminati" or whatever) causing every bit of individual human stupidity and individual human cupidity is kind of arrogant. Sometimes people are turds and it's nobody's fault but their own. Sometimes people are big ol' piles of sugar, and it's nobody's fault but their own. Neither type has partners in their actions and there's no one compelling them to be that way. That's just the way they are.
But I digress.
Even though I'm no AJ fan, gretchen, I feel compelled to say...I hope you are NEVER judged as harshly by anyone as you apparently judge people you you've never even met and can't possibly know. For you to assume what her breast cancer risk was, that she exaggerated it, etc., is breathtakingly presumptuous and cold-hearted. Shame on you. |
