Smoothie skin update here!!!!
Not only is the face looking better, the hands and wrist areas are too. My hands and wrist areas are small and sometimes the veins look protruding. As of this week...little over three weeks of green smoothies my hands and wrist areas are plump and youthful looking. The former protruding veins are laying down and my skin looks plumped up and firm. My mother used to always say to me when I wouldn't try my vegetables, "You don't know what you are missing" well she was right! Again I am utterly amazed!!!! |
You know that also sounds like you are absorbing and holding healthy levels of hydration more now. I know you always drank enough water etc before- but I wonder if something in the smoothies you are making are helping to utilize all your water/fluid intake better? |

I wondered if it was something like that too Cathy. I would love to know exactly what is going on here. Spinach, acai, and avocado are powerful super foods for the skin so I agree there is hydration but I wonder what else is in the mix Whatever it is keep it coming baby.....cuz I LIKE it! Really looks good on me |

Toby,
Your results and progress in only three months time is truly amazing & inspiring! I can't wait to see what happens for me in that amount of time. I also have small hands & thin wrists and my veins pop out too. I really, really hope this works to minimize those veins, as they really do annoy me! I tried the smoothie you told me about with the avocado and it was AWESOME! But, I really love avocado. Only thing is, I am traveling and won't be able to do the smoothie thing while away. I wonder if I just eat more greens that week ~ if that will work. What do you attribute this to ~ just incorporating more green veggies into your diet or what? Thanks ~ Aprile |

Just thought I'd share something that gave me a good chuckle..
I ordered the "Blendtec" about four days ago.. Yesterday I recieved an email from 'John' appologizing that he was inundated with orders over the last week, and bare with him as he works hard to fill them.. (I was thinking of telling him it was all Toby's fault.. )
Anyhoo, happy to report my blender is on it's way, and shipping is scheduled for the 11th.. WooHoo!
Can't wait to buy out the farm stand this weekend.

Aprile,
Thee change I am seeing has come at the three week point....might be different for someone else. But I think that the volume of greens being totally broken down is what is making the change come so quickly. I think with eating lots of greens and such while you are gone is good. I wouldn't worry that being away will put you back, enjoy your time and jump back in when you get back. It is something that will probably be a part of your life from here on out. You will probably have some wonderful meals and happy moments while you are away and that will help your body jump start into the smoothies when you get back. The venture to good health is a journey not a race....as a runner you know all about that! |

Tip: Make sure the cap is on securely when making a large amount of green smoothie. It can really be a mess.
Ask me how I know. |

What a great thread! I'm so inspired. I'm raring to buy a nicer blender and hit up the farmers markets. Just a tip, I've noticed adding hemp seeds as a topping to a blueberry smoothie is delicious. I use organic whey protein in mine to punch it up with protein. |

IMCathy, I dare not provide any more physical evidence of my growing eccentricities for my husband to compile. He has already taken note of a frig full of unfamiliar greens, and strange little bottles of acids and potions lined up in the bathroom.
No photos....ever |

Today I bought the mother-load of veggies at Amish stands all over!!!! A bounty of organic produce lies on my counter and frigy!....
25 oz of smoothie/day that's my goal.
I feel really good already - after four days. Sort of takes away cravings for other food that aren't so good for you. Neat-o. |

Okay guys so I don't OD on omega 3 can anybody help with the latest update of omega 3 and 6 ratio and how they are doing the balancing act???? It seems I am throwing many omega 3's in the smoothies and if the ratio that I heard is omega 6 three to one of omega 3 ....I could be in trouble!! |

Toby,
you said you had been adding chia seeds to your smoothy lately....
they are tremendously high in omega 3 fatty acids (more so than hemp seeds which in turn have more than flax seeds)....which are really important for skin 'plumpness'..
(i always look so much better when i am including chia seeds in my diet!)
So... this may be another reason for the improvements in skin tone you're experiencing....
also, the oils in avocado are skin friendly too..
...and it may be that it's easier for you to assimilate the proteins in the chia seeds and avocados than in the other sources of protein you may already have been eating |

Toby,
i sent my post before reading your last one regarding omega 3's and 6's..
i don't have time right now to look up the stats...
but i do know that most Americans eat waaayy too much 6's in relationship to 3's...and are desperately in need of 3's. |

I envy you the fresh produce - I have to rely on the local health food store.
Are you going to use your smoothies as meal replacements? Will all 25 oz of them be green or some be all fruit? I can do about 16 oz of the green but they are loaded with kale and very filling. Are you looking for weight loss?
I've lost about 3 pounds in 7 days of smoothies with no other changes in diet or exercise... possibly water loss. I definitely have more energy and don't crave sweets. I was really focusing on skin benefits and the weight and energy came as a nice surprise!! |

I agree.... and so does Dr. Mercola:
"The typical American consumes far too many omega-6 fats in their diet while consuming very low levels of omega-3. The ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats is 1:1. Our ancestors evolved over millions of years on this ratio. Today, though, our ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 averages from 20:1 to 50:1! That spells serious danger for you...."
Dr. Andrew Weil agrees with the 1:1 ratio.

Regarding omega-6 to omega-3 fats, you want them in a ratio of between 1:1 and 1:4 in your diet. In breastmilk, REGARDLESS of the ratio of the mother's diet (e.g., even if it is a bad 18:1), the ratio is tightly controlled to be 2:1 - 3:1. In human cells, the ratio is 3:1 - 4:1. When I am focused on it, I try to aim for between 1:1 and 2:1. And interestingly, I noticed my skin is plumper and more hydrated when I consume ground flax seed, rather than flax oil. Finally, I echo Jasminerosy, avocado is also awesome for the skin (hence 302 skincare).

Zoftig - giggling
Toby - another fridge? LOL we are all going to go broke eating fresh! and I always thought it would be cheaper...
I just priced baby spinich at the store and they want over $3 a pound for it. I have been paying that as salad enhancers, but to think of putting in a pound a day...
Maybe i need to learn how to garden.
the joke around here is even my fake plants are losing leaves... |

Two thoughts for the day with green smoothies!!!
This morning when I was making my Dr.Oz recipe I felt like a chief....I have added some of my now favorites acai powder, kale, hemp powder(not wild about that) and chi seeds...oh these babies are so good As Jasminerosey said they may be responsible for my newly pumped up skin.
Cathy brings up a good point that ties into my second thought....added expense and trips to the store. The thought is actually a reality about aging and disease that I have seen with my elderly parents. Disease whether it be cancer, arthritis, etc. appears to thrive best in an acidic environment. Fresh vegetables and fruits provide an alkaline environment that promotes healthy cells. We all know we will get older with every day and are more susceptible to the body breaking down. If our bodies are in a basic alkaline state, we are safeguarding ourselves from possible disease. If cost of smoothies bother us we need to think about the cost of meds for cholesterol, heart, cancer, etc...not to mention surgeries and hospitals. In that light the cost and extra time in prep seems like insurance.
And oh yes a special thanks to Kassy for the dancing broccolli trees |

I have the Jack LaLanne Power juicer and I used to try and make a bunch of juices and put in the freezer but it was so time consuming and having to lug 50 pounds of veggies upstairs etc. discouraged me from that.
So what I do is just buy what I need for a few days and I usually juice one or 2 times a day. I don't find it's a hassle at all. I just drank a 1/2 a cabbage and 1/2 head of broccoli in fact before I found this thread. I love the way I "know" I'm getting a ton of veggies that way. Whatever looks like it’s not going to last like bagged spinach I’ll juice too before it goes bad. You need to eat about 11 servings of fruits and vegs a day and that’s 1/2 cup/serving, so you really don’t need to juice a pound, just a little a day, if that helps. |
