I drink a glass of water mixed with about a tablespoon of ACV, the juice of 1/4 to 1/2 of a lemon or lime, and about a tablespoon of grade B maple syrup every morning.
I like the taste actually - I find that the maple syrup and the lemon really improves the taste of the ACV. I do this to help my digestion!
However, be careful to drink these types of drinks with a straw - acidic drinks like this can really eat at the enamel on your teeth. Also, I rinse my mouth out afterwards. |

Snowstar,
I don't know if anyone got back to you, but you might consider the possibility that you have an allergy/sensitivity to lemon. That's the first thing that came to my mind when I read your post.
There are a lot of things touted as 'healthy' that are disastrous for some of us if we have an allergy to that thing! This is something I deal with concerning other foods. |

I have been religiously drinking warm lemon water first thing in the AM for a few seasons now and love it. It's great! A few months into practicing this I went to the dentist and he was amazed at how little plaque was on my teeth. He swore I'd been flossing perfectly everyday, when in fact I do it a few times a week.
This is the only change in my routine that I can attribute it to! Though, who knows... |

I drink lemon with warm water first thing off and on when I'm on a health kick. Apparently it is a diuretic and can aid in weightloss and also flushes out the toxins if you do this first thing in the day.
I certainly feel better when I'm on this - perhaps it's time I got onto it again!
A friend of mine presently has an inflamed kidney and on top of all the antibiotics the Dr prescribed, he also told him to drink as much lemon as he could because of it's cleansing properties.
So there must be something in it. |

Ladies:
Just had to pop in my penny's worth on this....have been drinking hot( drinkable hot) water w/ 1/2 freshly squeezed lemon, no sugar/honey, on empty stomach first thing in a.m. for over 20 yrs! I'm not keen on sugar but if I were, would prefer a touch of Splenda over pure sugar. Was told by doctor that the acid helps break down fats & therefore an excellent aid to digestive system. And that it should be taken w/out food, much like many who drink a cup of coffee before anything else in a.m.
I'm not a coffee drinker, & the thot of drinking colas like Coke or Pepsi, especially in the a.m., almost has me making a mad dash to the bathroom. Have to admit that father raised us on whole foods, & colas, processed foods & the like just weren't part of our household so have never developed a taste for them. When I did taste them as a teen, my reaction was a huge BARF & UGH. Thot "this is CRAP".
In fact, I once collapsed & had to be wheeled out of an important meeting in a wheelchair (company had it on site for health emergencies)because of a reaction against the horrible strong coffee that the Chairman had pressed me to drink. I drank 1/4 of a small cup!! For 2 hours I lay in painful writhing & twitching about from the effects of the caffeine. Doctor was called and he was positive I'd been taking drugs. Told him it was a drug, it was the caffeine in the coffee. Knew from his eyes he didn't believe me...repeatedly asking me what drugs had I taken. Colas have almost the same effect on me.
I'm just relaying my experience & this is not meant to preach but it's more of a pleading w/ anyone who loves their colas & other caffeine-laden drinks to do your utmost to quit. You may be doing tons more cumulative damage than you realize.
BTW, the lemon drink doesn,t destroy the enamel on teeth. However, if you were to consistently rub the freshly cut lemon half over your teeth, this will destroy the enamel. Dentist's honour.
And I swear the hot water/lemon drink has aided me in more ways that I realize...not a hint of arthritis whereas it plagues my sister whose dietary habits (coffee, etc) are much looser than mine.
my penny has turned into $5...sorry... |

adding honey to the hot water & lime is very good as honey has healing properties. It's known as the necter for humans. |

I'd like to start off this post by saying hello to everyone reading this -- my first post! I didn't expect to contribute anything so soon, as I am not a beauty girl by any means, but this is one thread I can comment on from experience.
I did the warm water and lemon first thing in the morning for years and I loved it. As previous posters have noticed in their own bodies: facial complexion cleared up, body felt detoxed, and the need for caffeine was seriously suppressed which is good for me.
The drawback is that the whole lemon in warm water *every day* completely wore away the enamel on my teeth. My dentist was baffled until she asked me more specific questions about what I drink all day long -- she thought I was drinking soda, which I don't, ever.
If you use a straw to drink the lemon water and then wash out your mouth with some water immediately, the unwanted damage to dental enamel should be significantly minimized.
I myself am going back to drinking this because as part of my rosacea treatment, my dermatologist told me to avoid coffee at all costs, but I've noticed that tea creates some facial flares as well, so I'll be staying clear of that too.

I also wanted to say that the warm water with lemon in the morning is an aryuvedic treatment. That part did not show up on my post. |

Hi Isa,
Thanks for sharing. I squeeze only a quarter of a lime, so, think that's okay.
Good luck with your enamel.
Cheers |

I would really like my teen son to start this in a few months, after he has his braces removed. He has fairly persistent acne, which is sort of controlled with topical and oral antibiotics, plus retin-a....but he is never truly clear...maybe this would help. But I am a bit worried about the tooth enamel thing. It seems there are differing reports. And since he is a teen, not sure how compliant he'd be. But it might be another good thing for his skin, since I believe his problem is primarily internal.
Actually, I'm going to start it myself for general good health - it just sounds right. But about the coffee....I like my one cup in the morning - maybe a second at work, and that is it. I don't really consider myself a BIG coffee drinker with that amount - I'm not one to keep a cup going all day and definitely none after 4 pm or I'd never sleep. So for those of you who shun coffee/caffiene...is that much really so bad? Now, with the diet sodas...I really do have to discipline myself or that can get out of hand - I try to keep that to one a day as a treat.

Mikhail Tombak, Ph.D. in his book "Can We Live 150 Years?" writes extensively about lemon juice as therapy and cure for various ailments.
"Lemon Juice is rich in vitamin C, microelements and hormones. It wonderfully cleans insoluble salts and slime out of our body. Drinking juice squeezed from one lemon every day helps us stay young. It contains estrogen-like phytochemical substances and therefore is very beneficial for older females. Some chemical compounds found in lemon are very effective in the prevention of infectious diseases. We should drink lemon juice as a preventative measure against the flu epidemic and colds in late fall and early spring.
..............................................
You should not discard the squeezed lemon - it contains valuable phytochemical ingredients and essential oils that are beneficial for the heart, blood vessels and brains. Cut the squeezed lemon into pieces, put them in a jar, add honey or sugar, and put in the refrigerator. In ten hours, you will have an excellent lemon extract that can be mixed with boiled or mineral water and used instead of tea or coffee." |

On coffee and caffeine unless you have a particular sensitivity it may actually do some good. The Sept. Harvard Health letter said the women who drank moderate amount of coffee had less type 2 diabetes than those that did not (maybe they're having the coffee instead of a bready/sugary snack?). Anyway a pretty good review of articles is at
www.benbest.com/health/caffeine.htm/
or go to the Harvard health site. |

I have been doing lemon and warm water for years!
But to keep the remains and make a tea!! THAT IS FANTASTIC! definatly going to give that a try! I love my tea's this will put a new twist on them! Thank you Bellezza!
ingestion of warm water decreases blood osmotic concentration faster than cold water,
mainly the tempurature of water tends to deal with the cooling or warming of the body. I have been told cold water can shock the system and warm water allows for more absorbtion.
Maybe that helps!? |

I wonder if lemon can be substituted with ACV. There are lots of recommendations to drink ACV diluted with water the first thing in the morning, just like lemon in this case... Do they have the same effect on the body??? |
