Walking Disaster by the author of Beautiful Disaster. A twist or change of view on the same story, loved it!
I look at the NYT best seller list and then look it up on Amazon to see if it is one I would like. I take in reviews but that doesn't always sway me. |

Just got done reading "Speaker for the Dead" by Orson Scott Card, the second book in the Ender series. Highly recommend them!
Also second whoever recommended the Game of Thrones series of books, collectively titled "A Song of Ice and Fire". Very compelling, IMO (as is the TV series). |

"Angel of Darkness" by Caleb Carr
http://www.amazon.com/Angel-Darkness-Caleb-Carr/dp/0345427637
It takes a while to get into his verbose style but he spins a good story with lots of historical detail. Its the sequel to "The Alienist". |

I like Patricia Cornwell, so I started reading her account of Jack the Ripper. Ugh. Too morbid even for me! What a total downer that ppl could be that evil and twisted, but it explains why (in great detail). Apparently he had surgeries to correct a penile anomaly as a v young child that left him deformed and angry about it! The book says he may have imprinted upon his nurse at the time of surgery (no anesthetic its thought) and harbored a rage against women. NO KIDDING!!! |

Barbara Kingsolver is an amazing writer and I love all her books, especially Animal Dreams. Her nonfiction is great also.
Fawnie- interesting stuff about Jack the Ripper! Sounds like it would be a bit too graphic for me though. I think I read that Cornwall was/is a medical doctor.
Recently read The Language of Flowers and enjoyed it. |
