I tell my students...C is for collagen. I take about 2000 mg daily. Recommended with msm also.

Taking both collagen and hyaluronic acid is the best combo you can do for your skin! I have been taking NeoCell collagen for two years, either the powder or capsules. Taken with NeoCell hyaluronic acid, my skin holds moisture and fine lines are "dinged out." And there are great side benefits for bone health, eye health, weight control. Great for both beauty and health!

I've read over and over that it is no better than any other source of amino acids and has nothing to do with transferring it's collagen to your collagen, it's just broken down. Makes sense. http://www.japanprobe.com/2009/01/09/the-collagen-myth/

I've been afraid of hyluranic acid because of the side effects and lack of safety research.

There are other things that help collagen synthesis far more directly than amino acids.

Some are:

1) Vitamin C

2) Vitamin A

3) Vitamin E

4) MSM

5) Glucosomine

6) Gotu Kola

7) L-Carnosine

8 ) Zinc

9) Silica

10) Calendula

11) Reservatrol

12) Cissus

Here's an article on the last one. Cissus also lowers cortisol and cortisol destroys collagen.

Reservatrol:

The rest you can Google. Smile

So also stay away from things that destroy collagen. Like the sun, stress (cortisol), smoke, high blood sugar (insulin), inflammation and high inflammation foods (the acidic ones), caffeine, alcohol, AGEs (from foods), free radicals!

Hah, to look your best you just basically have to become a total health freak! It is so worth it!

I was just on iherb looking at the reviews for NeoCell Super Collagen...there are over 470, almost all raves. For ten bucks, try and see if you get the same effects!

There are three kinds of hyaluronic acid. The first is pure ha, which comes from external tissue like rooster comb. This is the gold standard, its fully absorbed. Pharmacist Suzy Cohen says it is wonderful for eye and joint health. NeoCell has this form in capsules and also a blueberry liquid.

Less valuable are sodium hyaluronate, which is made in a lab and not absorbed as well. The ha products that are mixed with sternum are basically Collagen II and not ha at all, though labeling rules let them claim it.
