Thanks Zoftig for that thread link. I am looking forward to receiving the product but am worried about how bad the smell from the titanium dioxide will be. I should receive the product in time to use for my memorial day camping trip here in TX so it will get a good testing. |

I really love Epicuren Discovery Zinc Oxide SPF20.
No white residue, no irritation, no breakouts.
I have bought this again and again.
I have held off trying the Devita because (1) I tried their other skincare products and they did not agree with my skin and (2) it does not come in a tube (unless something has changed since the last time I checked). I want something I can keep in my purse.
Downside to Epicuren, pricey and tough to find depending on where you live (ie, lots of salons on west coast, fewer in northeast). Still, a great sunscreen for the face that never lets me down. |

Epicuren is a lovely sunscreen, but the downside is price. However, I've tested the *ocean tested* and the *kid's* versions of the burnout sunscreen and I love them. This is a winner! The ocean tested version is very similar to epicuren in feel, if I remember correctly.
I like both the kid's and the ocean tested versions, and I like both a whole lot better than the "eco sensitive" version. Right now I like the ocean tested version a little better because it's more moisturising with the hemp seed oil. The burnout sunscreen meets all my requirements... I also really like the packaging. I may switch from pratima to burnout for a couple of reasons:
1. ease of ordering- pratima is not the easiest sunscreen to get ahold of.
2. I prefer the packaging on the burnout. even though the packaging on pratima is ok (it's s pump) it's not the best because when the bottle is close to empty it's hard to get the product out. Also, a tube is more portable. |

re: devita ultra solar 50--
can this really, truly be sunblock? does it really work? it seems to good to be true.
seriously.
perfect, fluffy, emollient texture, completely sheer, leaves the skin feeling soft and supple.
i'm actually scared to wear this is the sun.
please, somebody, attest to its protectiveness!
if this really works as sunscreen, then we have a winner.

That sounds like Devita! I think it's just good formulation. I haven't tried the devita 50, though. Now here's the big question: does it sting your eyes?
Personally I'm not sure interested in Devita 50 because it's too expensive. It's $11/oz with 19% zinc oxide while burnout is $5.3/oz with 18.6% zinc oxide. |

The Devita body block is in a tube. When it gets mostly empty and I can't force any more product out, I cut the tube open to get the last bit. The devita body block will probably stay a staple for me because it's a pretty good product and it's surprisingly inexpensive. (buy it at internatural or iherb). $22 for 6 ounces! That comes out to under $4/oz which is a great price for the quality of this product. |

That's awesome that the Burnout worked out for you. At one time, I wanted to try the Epicuren but prefer to have a sunscreen without beeswax in it.
Did you find both the Burnout sunscreens to have no or little whitecast to them? Always good to have options. |

Sorry, not Nimue. But just to chip in. All 3 versions of the Burnout sunscreens have minimal/no white cast. |

Thanks m1rox, that helps a lot. It's nice to have options.
I don't mind a little whitecast for my skin as it sometimes seems to act as an brighter. |

You're welcome, Amarise. And I do agree with you about the cast having a brightening effect as long as it's not overwhelming. The Burnout sunscreen show this "brightening" on my skin. It looks like I have nothing on except that I can feel the sunscreen (it has the typical rubbery feel of a high zinc oxide sunscreen). |

wow, "options."
now this isn't a word i associate frequently with sunscreens.
exciting!
i used epicuren sunscreens a couple of years ago and believed they had chemical ss agents in them... did they reformulate?
when i am done with the devita i will try the burnout ss!

Did the body block packaging change? It looks like it's in a bottle rather than a tube?

I'm not sure about the ingredients a few years ago, but the Epicuren does not have any chemical ss in it now.
Here is what's in it now...
Ingredients Aloe vera, deionized water, micronized zinc oxide, glycerin, beeswax, ascorbyl vitamin C palmitate, Epicuren enzyme concentrate, rose otto rose oil, tocopheryl vitamin E acetate, retinyl vitamin A palmitate, ergocalciferol (vitamin D), xanthan gum, magnesium silicate, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Rosemary Extract, Cinnamon Extract, Bearberry Extract.
Active ingredient: zinc oxide
As for the Devita Solar Block, I read on their site a month ago that they were changing the packing to bottles with pumps due to requests. This would be in effect now. |

Sorry, I meant to say it's a bottle. It would be awesome if the packaging changed to a pump, but I'm not holding my breath.
mlrox, thanks so much for the recommendation of burnout, now I have this great new find. |

Nimue: Have you ever tried this Loving Naturals sunscreen? It has 24.8% zinc oxide. The base has a lot of oils (including hemp).

It's quite a bit more expensive than the Burnout though. (But cheaper than Marie-Veronique which I can't justify the cost). |

I believe it that it really is sheer- it has hardly any zinc oxide. It's only 5% zinc oxide and 6% titanium dioxide. (the spf is from the titanium dioxide. personally, I ignore spf claims and look at the % of zinc oxide) It's up to you if that's enough protection for your needs. Devita is totally sheer with 14% zinc oxide. Physical sunscreen doesn't have to have a white cast as long as it's formulated well. |

Are you referring to the Solar Body Block 30? |

No, I haven't tried the Loving Naturals product. Do you like it? From the ingredients list it looks like it'll be similar to Badger's sunscreen. Since water is't even among the indredients, this will probably be way too heavy and oily for me. Also, that particular tube looks like it would be hard to squeeze product out of it. |

Yes. The face devita sunscreen also has 14% zinc oxide. The new "ultra 50" version has more, and it also has titanium dioxide. |

I haven't tried it either. It looks to have too many oils for my skin too. Good point about the tube. Those heavy zinc oxide sunscreens are better to be dispensed from less rigid tubes like those used by Burnout. At least if the product gets "stuck" and cannot be squeezed out, you can cut the tube and scoop it into a clean jar so it's not wasted. |

I'll throw a new one into the mix. I've been using Dermaquest's Zinclear SPF 30 with 18.6% zinc oxide for a while now and I love it. No white tint and it has some antioxidents that are good for your skin. It really protects well too, I've never gotten red even on the most sunny, hot days. It is a bit pricey but I used the MUA discount on skincarerx.com (MUA20) and I save 20% on it. I've used the Epicuren too and I liked it, but I like Dermaquest better. I tried Pratima but it seemed too heavy to me, I couldn't wait to wash it off. |

I've tried the Dermaquest (a sample). Unfortunately the tint is too dark for me. |
