I've been using Mavala's Double Lash conditioner for about a year (used up 2 bottles).

I was half-way through my 3rd bottle and noticed that my lashes started falling out - like 2-3 every night from each eye.

I looked at DoubleLash closer and it turned into something disgusting - changed it's color and texture and looks like it might've "separated".

So I discarded That, and started using pure castor oil on my eye lashes and eyebrows.

I've been using it for 3 nights now and haven't lost a single lash since, BUT... a lost a few eyebrows! Not enough to make a dent, but like 5-6 hairs from each side. I was just kinda brushing them with my fingers and they started coming off!

Does anyone know if this is normal at all? is it reaction to the oil, or is this a normal process for eyebrows - to shed at times?

TIA

I have not gone though exactly what you have. Over the past few years my brows have got thinner (to the point of concern). A few months ago I started using ARDELL LASH & BROW GROWTH ACCELERATOR recommended by Carrie. I can't say enough about this drug store find. My brows are thicker and darker. My lashes also are thicker and longer. If you are concerned about your brows and lashes I can almost guarantee this product will help. The great news is it's approximately $4.00. You can read more about it:

Winnie,

FYI - one of the ingredients of Ardell Lash Growth Accelerator just so happens to be castor oil! They list it by it's scientific name, rinnicus something-or-other, but it's just plain ole castor oil.

I use Ardell during the day, in place of mascara. And it night I apply a bit of plain castor oil (after I apply some of the Japanese Lucia serum using a eyeliner brush) as I figure it would make a great lash conditioner....

While drugstore.com *does* ship internationally, if I remember correctly, Lianne (or maybe it was Lolli?) reported that they wanted to charge her nearly $20 to ship her tube of Ardell to her in British Columbia!!! Pumaka - I’ve made this offer before in one of the eyelash threads, but I’m willing to purchase and ship tubes of Ardell to those EDS members living overseas (or over the border!) for the *actual* cost of shipping. PM for details.

About the Castor Oil, I have been adding this to the homemade Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream and it has worked wonders in drawing out blackheads and getting rid of excess oil. I haven't noticed anything unusual with my eye brows.

I think it was a fluke, maybe excess eyebrows falling out! they're pretty thick, so I'm not too worried.

I'd be REALLY worried however if that started happening with the lashes. But so far so good!

Btw, Dr. H Cleansing Cream on its own really cleaned out my blackheads. I was surprised that something so mild works so well.

Thanks everyone for your feedback Smile

Pumaka, I'm bumping this thread up because I've been reading up on castor oil and thickening eyebrows/lashes, and it seems that most everything I've read suggests castor oil to promote the growth of brows/lashes. While I did come across a few claims that said it made their brows/lashes fall out, there were also a few that said their brows/lashes grew back after that initial sudden 'molting'.

I'm just wondering if you're still using castor oil on your brows and if you're experiencing anymore brow loss.

Carrie, I guess this question is for you, too, since you said you use castor oil to condition your lashes.

Hi Mummy,
no, falling out stopped after about 3-4 days. I don't apply it religiously every day, but like maybe every other day. It seems to work well, not sure about extra growth, but my lashes seem to be silkier and more resilient.

HTH.

Thanks! Having had success with homemade stuff I'm looking into making my own eyebrow/lash growth serum! Let me experiment and I'll post results soon. Very Happy

Wow. Seeing this post, I think I'll start applying castor oil at night again. I wasn't seeing any results and it made my eyebrows fall out so I wasn't using it consistently

vaseline works wonders too. Castor oils been known for lashes forever, look in alot of herbal books and you can find it, I tried it long ago maybe 15 yrs ago but since i lasted about a week I cant report on it. My eyebrows go thru a falling out process periodically, not to the point of freak out but 5 or 6 here and there but i've never noticed holes. I think of it like i do the hair on my head, it falls out too, and is a very normal shedding process. Now when hair isnt coming in right behind that shed, I'll start freaking.

I use Ecrinal fortifying lash gel. It is $20.99 cdn at SDM.

Ardell is not to be found in Canada unfortunately!

First ingredient is caster oil. I did review this a while back.

Also I would be sure to use a fresh tube. I change tubes every 3 months (like mascara) to avoid possible problems.

Would castor oil be able to cause styes?

I've had two consecutively on my upper lid before I figured out it was my mascara and tossed it, but they were horrid. I had to hide in my house with my whole eye swelled shut like quasimodo for days at a time. I want to try CO but I'm scared.

I dont think it will if you use a small amount and apply it with a clean cotton bud across the lash line.

It does make lashes long, but it is very sticky so make sure you wash it off throughly ever morning with a gentle cleanser.
