I've never used an eyeliner that wasn't an automatic, but am having trouble finding a good vegan one. So I'm willing to expand my horizons at this point, and am looking at eyeliners that you sharpen. Anyone try the Jane Iredale one? If so:
1. Does it glide on VERY EASILY to minimize tugging?
2. How is the staying power, does it smudge or run by the end of the day?
3. is it safe for contact lens wearers?
thanks

Hello Thoughtcrime!
It's so good to be home after a big vacation. I had a very good break from "daily stuff" but I missed my room and my..."daily stuff". And I missed you guys. Was wondering if everyone had a good holiday and if anyone missed me :P:P:P
So I begin my New Year here on this forum with an answer for your question, dear Thoughtcrime. I am using JI eyeliner All Natural in Black Brown and I love it.
1. It glides easily and smoothly, and definitely no tugging
2. It stays beautifully for a long time
3. I wear contact lenses and have no problem whatsoever with this eyeliner
I'm very picky when choosing any eye ptd for my extra sensitive eyes and I trust only JI eye make ups. I am using JI Circle Delete Eye Concealer, JI eye shadows, JI eye liners and JI mascara. The only thing about JI mascara that I don't feel like to stock it again is it doesn't thicken my thin lashes the way I want . But it's better for your lashes if you need to use it everyday for its safe and natural ingredients and if you don't really care for a more dramatic, "vavoom" look for your eyes. For this look I prefer to use Estee Lauder Illusionists. Hope this helps, Thoughtcrime :P. HAPPY NEW YEAR. |

HAPPY NEW YEAR LEILA, and Welcome back! :P
Thanks for the response and you definitely sold me on the JI eyeliner. Do they have a dark black shade? Do you line the top and bottom lashes of your eyes, cause I do both and wonder how eyeliner pencil is going to feel on the bottom lash/inner rim area. Automatic pencils are so soft and super easy to use. But I will try this. I'm glad you also mentioned the JI mascara, because I've been wanting to try the pure lash mascara. I'm a little hesitant now cause I like the dramatic "vavoom" look everyday :P. I only wear eye makeup, so that's the one thing that has to stand :out! I'm using a brand called Fresh now with Origins underwear for lashes underneath and love it. |

We sure did miss you! I hope you had a great holiday and are having a fab start to the new year.
I've been catching up with some work over the past few weeks so I haven't been reading the forum. Gee it's hard to catch up after a short absence!

Helloooo Mabsy !! and WELCOME BACK!
I was starting to wonder where you were! Glad you're back and caught up with all the posts! -- a lot more fun than going through the emails at work. When I get back to work, I'll have more than 2,000 emails or so waiting!
Hope you had a great start to the year as well. I spent New Year's day cleaning our apartment to welcome in the new year-- a little Fung Shui is always good and had friends over for dinner to welcome in 2004. I didn't catch the fireworks live this year because my guy is still on crutches, but saw it on T.V in a pub-- they were pretty awesome this year in Sydney!
Leila, we all missed you too!! It's great that you and Mabsy are back from your holidays. I just love this forum, everyone has so many interesting things to share, I know I can't do without it now and it's great to know that I can always count on the forum members for an oppinion on anything!!
I have a question on the JI Circle Delete-- is it a good concealer and how did you decide on your colour? I purchased one from Laura Mercier in no. 2 but I'm not too sure if it's my colour so I don't really wear it. The salesgirl was busy doing a make-over and didn't have time to trial the colour on me, I was in a bit of a rush as well, so bought it based on her assurance it was the right colour.
Also, how do you wear concealer? I think I best invest in one of these JI concealer brushes...:P

It's good to be back! Don't remind me about the work emails. I haven't caught up yet!
I had a quiet NYE, just a few friends, some alcohol and a board game We did go to the city to watch the 9pm fireworks which were a TOTAL disappointment in Brissy this year! We watched the Sydney ones on TV and they were great! I loved the 'Disco Bridge' display afterwards
About the Circle Delete, I have #2 and I chose it by interrogating Leila on her colour choice :P I was going to go for #1 because I always buy the lightest concealer shade but after chatting to Leila I went for #2 and I'm glad I did. It works well for me and I apply it with a Laura Mercier Camouflage Brush. I use the lighter shade for dark circles and the pink shade to cover up blue veins around my eyes.
It's a great concealer and I recommend it but it does 'sweat' Well, at least in the warm QLD climate it gets condensation on top every so often that I have to wipe off with a tissue. I doesn't affect the effectiveness of the concealer though.

I've got another week for the work emails to build up so you're ahead by miles!
I just had a look at the three available shades, it's a close one between #2 and #1 for me.....#2 has a light/ medium peach colour in it where as #1 has light/ medium yellow. I've got yellow skin tone and no blue circles so I'm wondering if #1 would be the one-- were you able to get a sample of the concealer to try before you decided? I've not come across many concealers so don't know what the consistency of others are, but the Laura Mercier's is cakey/ creamy and you really need to wear an eyecream underneath for it to work, otherwise the concealer appears in the lines underneath your eyes.
I definitely think getting a concealer brush would be the go with getting concealer right-- I've only been using my fingers. Do you finish off with loose powder once you've applied it? That might help with the "sweat". I don't usually use loose powders either but got one to "set" eye makeup. |

Sorry I should have clarified, it sweats on the surface in the container not when you're wearing it I think it's from sitting on the shelf in my bathroom which tends to get quite warm.
I think using a concealer brush is the way to go though I do use fingers sometimes when I'm lazy. For covering the veins I have to use a brush 'coz I need to draw a fine line.
Sorry I haven't tried the Mercier one so I can't compare. The circle delete is a cake of creamy concealer but I don't think you would need to wear eyecream underneath (though I always do). It's not as 'dry' as the Benefit Boi-ing cake creamy concealer so I don't think it would settle into lines. Leila, back me up here? What are your thoughts? Are you still liking this concealer?
I do finish it off with powder most times though I find that it's fine without powder as well. I didn't try to get a sample because I assumed that they wouldn't have any samples of concealers. There are some stockists of Jane Iredale in Australia (though they tend to be very unreliable with what they stock) so your best bet might be to try and find a tester in the shops and then you'll know what to order

Hello Mabsy! WELCOME BACK! It's so good to hear from you again and know that you had a wonderful time with friends and ...the fireworks...( I always love fireworks)...well, it will be better next year just for you !
Hello Summertimegirl! I'm here to please you!
I can't wait to tell you that I just love my JI Circle Delete #2, the only concealer that works wonder for my eyes. But if you don't have green or blue veins under your eyes and your skin is not so pale, I think #1 will be the better choice. I use it with JI concealer brush.
You know, if I ever get punished for being so vain, I beg God just leave me only three things in my vanity box:
1/ JI eye concealer
2/ JI concealer brush
3/ Just few more things ( PLEASE!)
I didn't really care much about ...brushes before ( there're quite a few of them I still don't know how to use, Mabsy and Thoughtcrime tried to teach me to use the eye liner brush more than once). I always thought it was faster and cleaner just to use my 10 digits.
Since I started to use this JI eye concealer brush with the concealer I just can't use one without the other. It's fine just to use your finger, but you know how finger can leave finger prints and you have to blend it and tug the fragile skin under your eyes. With this brush, it's so soft you feel like using feather to put on the cream with lightest strokes on the trickiest corner of your eyes.
I have the most reactive, allergic prone skin you never want to know and I'm so happy to be recommended these wonderful ptds by Caspers Mum and now I'm very happy to recommend it to you. My recommendation is also approved by Mabsy, so...it's your turn now to give a ...go ahead! |

Sorry, Summertimegirl, forgive me for my forgetfulness. About using powder on top of JI eye concealer, I use very sparingly BE Mineral Veil only on hot weather, when it's cold like today, I can skip it and it lasts just as fine. And to remove it I use Phytomer Face Dew Lotion...there, another reason to have this concealer in your inventory, Phytomer girl! |

You girls have just opened my eyes up to this concealer , THANK YOU! for giving it your seal of approval and recommending it to me Mabsy's right though, I'll need to trial out #1 or #2 on me first in a store to make doubly sure-- the reason is in winter I am very pale with pink undertones rather than yellow. In summer with so much swimming, I'm more brown with yellow undertones.:P I'm sure I will be able to find the one that suits me regardless of season.
So Leila, the JI Circle Delete and Concealer Brush goes down in the book of Must-Haves as *THE* beauty items you cannot live without !! You and Mabsy have convinced me the need for a brush for applying concealer-- very true about leaving paw marks under your eyes with the fingers, no matter how good they are at warming up the product, the application wouldn't be as precise especially right in those tricky corners like you said. When it comes to concealer, I guess you need to get it right. Fingers are great for lips and eyeshadows for a natural weekend look when you're dying to get into the outdoors, but definitely, brushes are essential for clean lines you want for the office. (Leila, I've only mastered the eye liner brush recently too so you can do it!!! But to have a steady hand, my elbow has to be resting on a table, you can't go wrong that way.....Plus that angle brush is perfect for my eyebrows!) Oh and speaking of vanity boxes, if it only came down to three things I would be on my knees begging for just a few more things as well....!! hehe!:P

Summertimegirl, I'm so glad you agree with me on the advantages of using good tools for better result. I still like to use my fingers to put on foundation and cream blush and lip gloss, but when coming closer to eye areas I prefer brushes, especially if you have long and sharp fingernails. Have you ever poked into your eyes or your cheeks with your fingernails accidentally and had to wear those red marks for days. I have. And it was hurt. Blame my bad eye sight for that:(
Thanks for your tips on using the eye liner brush. I never thought of that...WOW! just find me a place to rest my elbow...there will be nothing I can't move...that reminds me of...something we learned in middle school.:P:P:P
You are so cute giving the image of you on your knees begging for few more beauty things. I don't want to sound so political, but I believe if there are more beauty junkies like us on this earth, the world will be a more beautiful place..."beautify ourselves, beautify our world" ...it's my slogan...hee! hee! hee! |

Hey Leila, I do believe having good tools give you the finish you want, I used to walk past the MAC counters and wonder why those girls always had perfectly made up eyes-- it's all in the brushes that they use! I have a small collection of 'essential' brushes (made up of Napoleon, MAC and Stila) there are so many for all sorts of purposes but I streamlined it down to what I really needed. My latest acquisition was a large good quality powder brush made by Beguine which I got for 55 Euro from Longtemps, a dept. store in France, that was a bargain considering they are quite expensive here in Oz! The eye liner brush 'angled' brush is unbeliavably versatile, for the way it's designed-- not only can you line eyes but it creates the perfect feather-light strokes for the subtle 'peaks' in your eyebrows. I have two of them. The JI Concealer brush would definitely complete my 'brushes' tool kit!
And yes I always accidently jab by face with my fingernails too! and more often than not, nearly took my eyes out-- very painful indeed! That's why I no longer have long nails, I get a short French manicure every month, it looks clean and the white tips give the illusion of long nails. The other PLUS is that I can type better with shorter nails!
I am so glad I found this forum, I know I am in good company when it comes to 'Beauty Junkies'... :P..... we're always in search of answers and the perfect solution for our well-being. Like you wonderfully put it, "if you feel beautiful, you feel good, so you give off this goodness to make the world a more beautiful place...." |
