I need some guidance on what I should do...I've been following OCM for the last 2 months....after my initial purging...my skin had been unbelievably wonderful...but about 2 weeks ago I noticed some small red bumps...I don't think it's acne though...also I've noticed that after I wipe off my oils, my face has felt tighter and drier than before.
The mixture I use is 1/2 tsp castor oil, 1 tsp jojoba oil & 1 tsp grapeseed oil..I had begun to add about 5 drops of rosehip oil (for rosacea) and at first I thought that might be the culprit but I made a batch of my mixture without the rosehip oil and nothing changed.
I don't know if I need to decrease the castor oil or if there is another carrier oil that I should be using or is there another oil I should add to my mix???....as for the tight/dry after I wash...should I use cooler water when I steam my face? But will doing that ensure that my pores open up enough for a good cleaning?
BTW my face is oily on my forehead, cheeks, & chin. Kinda dry on my lower cheeks & jawline.
I know this is long...but I want the wonderful skin that I had after my purge and I just don't know what I'm doing wrong now....
Thanks y'all for all of your recommendations...i love love love this forum.... |

Are you using an emulsified OCM?
For myself, the traditional method became far too drying due to the hot cloth / steaming and removal of the oils.
Also, grape seed oil is rather astringent in its own right. Perhaps EVOO would be a better one for your skin at this point. Or...reduce the castor oil further.
I started with 50/50 Castor EVOO....and am now at 10% CO with grapeseed oil and EVOO. It is emulsified so I don't need the hot cloths, it rinses off nicely and doesn't even leave my skin feeling parched.
Hope that helps. |

Grape seed oil is drying, so I'd definitely change that out. Some people breakout from Jojoba, so that could be an issue also. Rose hip can cause clogged pores. Castor is extremely emollient and can cause the skin to produce no oils which can cause it to have a drying effect. Although its only 20% of your mix but maybe try 10%.
Oils are great but sometimes finding the right oils for your skin can be a pain.
I would cut back to only 2 oils and also add an emulsifier so the oils will rinse clean.
Pores don't open or close so I wouldn't be concerned about the water temp, use what is comfortable. |

Hmmm...emulsified...never thought of that...I have read of people using EVOO but I thought it might clog my pores or leave my skin more oily than before...What kind should I use? Grocery store or is there another kind I should look for where I buy my oils at? Do I add the EVOO to the mix I already us or should I replace one of the oils with the EVOO? I apologize for all the questions, but this gets kinda confusing for me....thank you soo much for your input. |

What other oils could I use for oily/acne prone skin? I found a link here on EDS that showed what oils are recommended for oily/acne prone skin and that is what I kinda based my mix on. I hate the way Tea Tree oil smells (gives me a headache!) so that one is out. What oil is a good emusifier? I'm thiking of adding EVOO to my mix. Maybe trying EVOO, castor, & grapeseed. |

An emulsifier is not a carrier oil. Examples are cromollient and polysorbate. When you use an emulsifier you generally don't need to follow up with another cleanser because the oils will rinse clean.
I would try just 2 oils. It will help narrow down which oils may or may not be causing you an issue.
If you were going to use tea tree (essential oil not a carrier oil) it should only be at 1% but EO's can still smell really intense.
I'm acne prone and I've had good luck with sunflower, kukui and watermelon. Its very much YMMV though when it comes to oils. |

After reading many posts here I decided to try OCM for the first time last night. I'm 30 years old and only started suffering from acne, blackheads and whiteheads after I had my first child 4 years ago. Since then I've tried too many products but nothing seems to offer any long term results. My face is at the worst it has ever been. Each pore on my face seems to be clogged with my skin looks congested. I have combination oily/dry skin. At first I was very skeptical because my skin is so sensitive but i loved the idea of all natural..i hate chemicals on my face. I could not find any of the essential oils mostly mentioned here like: grape-seed oil, rose hip etc. I did buy 100% Avocado Oil and Castor Oil. I used 50/50% at first. Rub the mixture on for about 5 Min's and used a steaming hot wash cloth to wipe away. Then I filled the sink with hot water and steamed my face for another 5 Min's, placed the hot wash cloth on until cool 2x and finally wiped away all the oil residue. I did see and feel tiny plugs come out from my skin. Although the more hardened embedded ones are still there. This morning my face looked cleaner and less dull. I believe that this method takes time to work and depends on the severity of your skin. Also I've made a change to only drinking water and lots of it. I plan on adding other essential oils in small quantities such as grape seed and tea tree. So far I love OCM. Thanks to all for your suggestions and findings! |

YAY!!! bsolutely agree with you. Even after 2 months I still have plugs coming out. Some nights, more than others, some nights none at all. But I too love the fact of using a natural way to clean my face. And with the added bonus of not spending a lot of money on product!!!! Woo Hoo! After 2 yrs of doing everything exactly as my derm told me and spending a ton of money on stuff that didn't work - in frustration I gave up. Even though I'm having some issues now, my skin is still in much better shape than it was when I was using the cleanser, toner, mask, Ventil, etc, etc, etc that my derm prescribed for me.
After doing some looking online last night, I'm wondering if after doing the OCM, my skin has gone from being an oil slick to being more of a normal/combo type??? Hmmmmm, dunno. But I think I'm headed to WallyMart when I leave work and getting a bottle of EVOO (I'm guessing it is ok to use that type)and mixing a new batch. |
