For the past few months, I've had really really bad breakouts (from white head, cystic, black heads) due to coming off BCP. I went to the dermatologist and was prescribed so many types of meds. I tried using Nano cyclic soap but unfortunately it didn't work for me. While at a drug store, I saw Jason - jojoba oil for $6. I've read so many benefits about this oil and thought what the heck, I'll see if it works. I just switched to using Dermalogica Ultracalming cleanser. So in the PM I use this and after drying my face, I apply the jojoba oil. I wait 10 minutes and than apply Jan Marini Bioclear cream (read so many raves about this) and wait than apply eye cream. In the AM, I use the same cleanser (haven't found another cleanser, but just ordered the GOW exfoliant cleanser) and apply the jojoba oil, wait 10 minutes than apply JM daily antioxidant sunscreen, LM oil free primer, Dermalogica Tint moisturizer, apply LM MMU than Mary's silk pearl primer. But the jojoba has really helped clear my skin, even my scars are slowly lightening up and the JM bioclear cream has helped too.
I'm so so so so happy now. I keep looking in the mirrow just to make sure it's really my skin.

My skin and I just wanted to say Thank you to the members for their reviews and wisdom. I can't believe I finally have clear skin.

Congrats qisme! I'm with you, at this point my skin has been clearer than it has ever been since it went haywire January 2006 - yes I was plagued with horrible breakouts, bumps, whiteheads for more than a year! I think it might be the Diane 35 that's starting to work after taking it for 3 months (better than Alesse that I used to take) and a big major player would probably be JM Bioclear. Everything else just helps and I found a lot of HG products that I would probably stick with for years unless my skin starts to change again. It's all thanks to everyone here and their advice and reviews. I love this site and I haven't even been to the derm yet! Going there in 2 weeks, so I'm not sure what he'll say since my skin looks WAY better than it did before when I was making the appointment!

I was using the clear & smooth exfoliant cleanser for my bacne but was using the bar soap for my face. But I stopped using the bar soap for my face and wanted to try Dermalogica after reading so many great reviews.

my skin will always be oily (i've tried so many products but it doesn't help) but the jojoba has really made a difference. in regards to controlling the oiliness, not really because i still have to blot my face throughout the day. but the oil really helps with unclogging the pores.

Gisme615, like you I stopped using BC a few months back and got hopeless skin with oiliness, breakouts etc. Now my skin is clear, even better than before I stopped using BC. This month I didn't get a single breakout before my period! Shock

I use a gentle cleanser (Babor or Dermalogica), a toner (Clinique mild clarifying toner without alcohol, or rose water), and Weleda wild rose body oil or wild rose capsules (these contain jojoba oil++). During the day I use SS after a few drops of oil.

Quisme, why would you apply more oil to your face?? Seems to me if you have very oily skin, adding more oil won't help your situation. (I'm only looking out for your best interest, excuse me for berating you).

SusieQ, there are many oils that are beneficial to oily skin - they can actually help regulate oil production. Wink

Hi there Kim! I'm sure that Jojoba is very good for skin, but theres lots of emollient ingredients that do the same and are not oily.

Actually, there are many oils besides jojoba that are good for the skin. Emollients may soften the skin, but they don't have the properties of being able to actually 'change' or balance oil production like some of the botanical oils.

If oils are applied properly, they do not leave the skin oily at all. Just a couple of drops, diluted with a spritz, will completely absorb in less than 10 minutes - nourishing the skin & leaving it soft - without increasing oil.

Granted, oils aren't for everyone. But many people (including myself) have found them to be superior to products containing a lot of chemicals for controlling oil & balancing the skin. They also are far less likely to cause irritation or breakouts. Again, the RIGHT oils must be used, and they must be applied properly - but they have made my once terribly oily skin much less oily & more clear.

I totally agree with you Kim, its all about finding the RIGHT oil (s) for oily skin, or dry skin for that matter. Jojoba oil didnt work for me for facial use (does wonders for my scalp and hair though) , Emu oil was a nightmare that (stupidly) took me months to realize (can we say clogged pores?!!) , however, Clarins Lotus oil has really helped clean up my pores and balance my oil production.

I really couldnt imagine putting an traditional emollient moisturizer on my skin again, they just feel too occlusive and make me wayyyy shiny.

Hi SusieQ - Thank you for your concerns Smile and I understand. I had my doubts too (oil on oil) but funny thing is it actually works with my skin. When I told my dermatologist that I wanted to apply the oil, reaction was what on earth would you do that. Your skin is so oily already, your going to have more breakouts. However, when I used DHC olive oil cleanser, that made my skin extremely dry and I had breakouts. So I stay away from olive oil. But the Jan Marini bioclear cream is really helping too.

I have Kim's (IFP) clarifying serum but I stopped using it because I had my doubts about the oil. I'm going to go back to using her serum again. I will never doubt oil's again.

Gisme615, I am for the time being "borrowing" my DH's Special cleansing gel, but it is a tad drying so I think I wil get something else soon. For SS I use a swiss brand, Daylong from Spirig.

Overall I am happy with my current routine, very simpel and uncomplicated. Laughing

Kim, jobaba would soften skin, but I don't understand the diluting it. Why not just use 1 drop instead of 2? Jojoba falls under a whole listing of natural moisturizing ingredients which is good for skin, however its not the holy grail. To put oil over an oily complexion sounds redundant.
