Hi ladies, I'm new to the forum and I'm noticing that alot of the member who list their age seem to be 40 or less. I'd like to hear from those of us older women and what your must have skincare and makeup products are. I'm 52 have combo to dry skin, med. fair with some freckling, some naso-lab lines and some mild wrinkles in the eye area. I also notice my skin seems more sensitive the older I get, esp around the eye area with redness. Thanks, Janet |

I agree, I would like to hear some comments on favorites of the "middle age" women
I am 47 with dry skin and mild wrinkling. I currently use all of the PSF products and have been very happy so far......but I am always wondering and hoping for bigger and better.

My MIL turned 50 earlier this year, she suffers from dry, sensitive skin.
The main products she swears by are:
*Neal's Yard Frankincense Nourishing Cream, she has purchased this over and over again and uses mainly as a night cream and a day cream in dry harsh weather.
*Neal's Yard Ready to Roll Remedies, she has a set of four but particularly likes the Night Time one, it contains a blend of oils that you roll over your pulse points: [quote]A blend of pure essential oils to help you wind down and take yourself to a calming place. How better to do it than with soothing chamomile, balancing lavender, relaxing neroli and delicate and fragrant rose[quote]
*Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream for the summer
*Avene moisturisers |

Consider me "up there" in terms of age (although I'd never admit my actual age ). Before joining the forum, I used Creme de la Mer religiously, but switched to JB after reading all the raves. I loved CDM, coz it gave me a lovely rosey glow and overall improved the quality of my skin. JB on the other hand, not only sustained what I had achieved with CDM, but gave me noticible results in diminishing fine lines and my naso-lab lines are gone, but most importantly my skin seems "thicker". When I pinch it it bounces back, its firm, not loose (if you know what I mean) I have absolutely no wrinkles on my cheeks, forehead and my neck is also firm.
I'm trying some IS Clinical samples at the moment, as this line is also getting good feedback here.
Glad you brought this topic up Nomoreneckpain, as I'm also interested in feedback from the older generation here on the forum

Hi nomoreneckpain - I'm 54 and I know what you mean about the difference in skin issues between younger and older people. Acne isn't a problem for me, so my goal is to keep lines at bay, reduce pigmentation, firm and thicken my skin, etc.
So far, sunscreen with a high PPD value is a must. I use LaRoche Posay Fluide Extreme SPF50+, which seems to be the best I've heard of so far. But it's quite oily so in summer, I'm going to try the LRP Dermo-Pediatric SPF40 Spray that betterat40 has mentioned several times. It's not as protective, but it's still better than just about any sunscreen available in North America, so I'm going to check it out because she says it's matte. Jurliques Lavender Silk Dust is compatible with the Fluide Extreme so I've just ordered some from EDS to mattify the stronger but oilier sunscreen. I also use Avene sunscreens because they're more compatible with makeup. They're oily too, but oiliness is a little easier for many older women to handle, anyway
The next type of product that's indispensible is some kind of retinoid. I have a hard time tolerating them but nevertheless can't give them up because they truly refine the skin and can eliminate lines, etc. Retinoids are supposed to stimulate collagen production too. I've used several kinds (I can't tolerate the prescription ones), and after trying SkinCeuticals .5% Retinol since last summer, I've had to find something gentler so lately I've been using Avene Ystheal Emulsion as well as Contour Des Yeux. I don't have so much irritation from this retinoid (retinaldehyde), but it's still refining. I still use some SC once in a while, and maybe in summer when my skin's oilier, I'll be able to use the SC more often again.
The other type of product I've been using since last summer is a Vit.C serum (SC CE+Ferulic), which I like a lot. I may try SkinMedica's Vit.C cream sometime too, as it's more stable (but may be less effective -- not sure -- l-ascorbic acid, like in the SC serum, is supposed to be most penetrating). I'm using this to help fade freckles, even skin tone, etc., and increase the effectiveness of my sunscreen since Vit.C is photo-protective as well.
The Janson Beckett products (AlphaDerma C+E, Mineral Skin Prep, and DermaExcel7 are nice products for mature skin. I use these, but not as regularly as the other products I've mentioned.
This has all worked out well for me. I look much younger than my age (when I have my grey hair touched up!) -- I don't have any wrinkles, and only a few fine lines around my eyes and between my brows, etc. I attribute this to faithful sunscreen use (and swearing off sunbathing) since I was 30 years old. |

JB is Janson-Beckett Jillpa. You can check the line out here at EDS under AlphaDerma CE. I still love CDM, but I feel that the combination of JB Skin Prep and ADCE has given me more dramatic results - improved the pores around my nose, nas-lab lines and overall given me a healthy glow and more firmness.

Hi April,
Thank you for letting us know your skin care routine. I am happy for you that the products you are using work well for you. Do you use retinoid all over your face or just spotly on the areas that you need most? Where did you get Avene Ystheal Emulsion as well as Contour Des Yeux from? I want to incorporate retin-A in my skin care, but I am very sensitive to it, so I should try Avene Ystheal Emulsion as well as Contour Des Yeux.

I'm 59 and had umber oily skin until a few years ago.
My #1 would be a form of Retin-A. I've used Green Cream, Avage, Retin-A, Differin and RAM. RAM and Differin are my favs. I need Differin for the blackheads I still have, mostly around my nose. Differin at night and BHA in the AM is really helping. I use RAM on the rest of my face.
#2 would be sun avoidance/sunscreen. (Ask me on another day, this would be #1) I'm very fair but only now starting to get a few lines under my eyes.
Now that I think about it, I would have to say #1 would be liquid nitrogen. You have to have a doctor apply it but without it I'd have AK's all over my face from the first 25 years of my life in the sun. No matter how good the rest of my skin it would look creepy with AK's all over my face. |

Right now I use Green Cream level 6 at night. And resting from my DIY VitC serum, too strong this time.Emu oil with HA are my usual moisturizers.I also use DMAE from Kripps.I am bothered with the tzone blackheads, old acne scars. It really is so helpful to see what others are using.
Take care,Linda |
