okay so here is one more problem...for the past 2 years or so i m battling with these laugh lines on my face...i am 30 years old..when i was 28,,,i didnt have a single laugh line.I started using tretinoin gel that tends to get stiff once its dried and i was not supposed to make facial expressions.I laughed and laughed and didnt care about it,,,due to using it my skin got very dry and dehydrated and at the same time while it was on my face,i used to laugh...( i used tretinoin gel for one whole year) and that was the first time, form no where i got these laugh lines,,,they r getting darker and darker,,,
I am so worried about it that i have stopped smiling..i love to laugh,,but i feel the only way i can lighten them up,is by not laughing.and its sort of right but only temporary,,,when i dont laugh for a day or so,,,they start to get very light and u can hardly see them...
But my cute lil 8th month old baby is always trying to make me laugh and i try not to....some times i really feel like crying cuz i was the person who loved to laugh and i m still that person,,but i cant laugh now...The worse thing is that many of my husband"s relatives have seen my laugh lines and they think i m looking older than my husband..i hate it...i m his age...All my firends and cousins who are 5 to 8 years older than me,,have not even a single laugh line and i know they dont do anything about it...i have become so much conscious because of it,,,i dont have any other lines on my face(except for the tiny ones around my eyes due to using tretinoin, but i know its temporary)..
Plzzz someone help me...dont tell me i need inections and fillers etc etc,,,dont u think 30 is early for those things ? and honeslty i cant do it ,,dont want my hubby to believe i have become old...
Is there anything i can do to get rid of it plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...... |

Oh sweetie, don't be upset. I am 31 years old and I know it's hard. Mine came about due to a lot of stress for about a year and a half and I aged overnight. And I too have those laugh lines. I am assuming around the mouth right? I am assuming you mean those "laugh lines" as you said you didnt want fillers. I too dont want fillers either. And I don't ever want to stop laughing and you shouldn't either, especially with a beautiful baby! What the wonderful people have recommended around here for the Nasolabial folds/lines (NLs) are facial exercises and massages. I'm still trying to figure out which ones to try otherwise I would let you know what I am trying. I'm still trying to figure out my routine as there is a lot of info around here to take in. I pay attention to the messages especially on the DIY threads as they seem to have great ideas about massages, exercises, oils and different gadgets to use. The trick from what I have learned is to try to tone the muscle and get the collagen working again.
Let me see, what else, I can think of. Oh yeah, green smoothies seem to be a hit around here.
As far as using the tretinoin gel, I'm not sure why this would cause worsening of the lines. Maybe someone else can advise here, but I thought this gel or any Retin A product was good for lines. Maybe they look worse before they get better? Anyone? I know the people around here will have great advice.
Take care. |

Hi. I just bumped up an old thread for you about a product called Angel Lift that helps with laugh lines that you may want to check out. Not sure if it's a success, but the theory behind it is intersting.
Oh, and Vitamin C seems to help with collagen building. Things just start coming to me as I type. |

OMG I'm infuriated and feel dreadful that you have been made to feel this way.
Hello! You have an 8 month old baby. If memory serves this would account for many sleepless nights, and also little or no time to devote to *beauty* rituals.
How dare anybody point out a flaw, or insinuate that you look "older than your husband". Why aren't they pointing out what a loving and adoring Mother you are, and how beautiful you look when that little baby makes you laugh with glee? Me's thinking some folks are jealous and envious, and you should take what they say with even less than a grain of salt.
My 1st advice (for what it's worth) is this; enjoy every moment of full and hearty laughter that your beautiful little baby brings to your day (and middle of the night). In the grand scheme of things, and 20 years from now when you ponder what was/is important to your life, it will be those moments of laughter that you'll remember, and not the foolish statements of, well, *fools*.
My 2nd advice is to suggest that maybe your skin is now on the dry side, which could be directly related to both 'retin-a' use, and the fluctuating hormonal ride you've been on since pregnancy... Being the busy mother that I know you are, I would just suggest that you make the most out of some good basic products for the time being..
- CeraVe has a wonderful line of extremely affordable yet good quality products, that are available in all drug store and chain stores.. They are loaded with ceramides and nice ingredients, which are especially nice for repairing the skin barrier and function. (Very moisturizing, absorb quickly and no artificial fragrance or colors. Really nice products!)
- The oils that would be wonderful for you to use either alone or in combination with a nice moisturizer are Macadamia, Jojoba + Avocado... They are wonderful oils, very akin to our own skin, would not interfere with hormonal issues, and would feed and moisturize your skin. (Mixing several drops of oil into whatever moisturizing product you use, will double the benefits IMHO.)
- A great vitamin C product is always of benefit, as is an AHA or retinol product for PM use. (Both of these should be based on your tolerance, so don't be afraid to tweak as necessary.)
- You might want to back off on the retinol products, say by half, till the dryness and fine lines abate.
You have classic skin symptoms of a young mother with no time for herself... Please don't let anybody steal the thunder of that beautiful little 8 month old, who needs, craves and deserves to see his/her Mommy smile.. There isn't a thing wrong with a few crinkles around ones eyes, and in fact it tells the tale of a life well lived.
♥LIVE♥ ♥LOVE♥ ♥LAUGH♥ ... And enjoy every minute of the journey...

Peace & Hugs to all.♥ |

reading back your post, I am wondering about your mention of Retin A making lines worse. Is this true? or are they just lines that appear and will disappear. I'm wondering about Retin A too since I too have used it and seems to have enhanced some lines. So does Retin A make lines worse or better? |

I am in my 30's and I have experienced the exact same thing as you have. I started retin-a a few years ago when I started to see the beginning of small wrinkles and prior to my retin-a my laugh lines were pretty much non-existent. After being on retin-a for a few months to a year I started to notice that I was getting laugh lines that were really showing up. I went to my dermatologist and was asking why am I getting these since retin-a is suppose to get rid of wrinkles. He explained to me that retin-a speeds up the renewal process of the skin faster then it would ordinarily be for someone in their 30's and at the same time for a lot of people it also reduces their oil production making their skin much more dryer. He said that with the combination of those two things and the repetitive movement in that area that it can make laugh lines look more prominent.
His suggestion to solve the problem was to make sure to exfoliate that area and to keep it very moisturized. After that I have made sure to exfoliate the laugh line areas, on a daily basis, to remove any dry dead skin cells and to moisturize that area as much as possible. Since doing that it has greatly reduced them but they are still not completely back to what they were prior to retin-a. I will just have to keep moisturizing and exfoliating and applying the retin-a to work them out the rest of the way. |

Maheen1, I'm also so sorry to read your message and how your feeling. Just to echo what everyone has said already, and share that when you got kids, there is next to no time for yourself as your constantly on the watch and I know when I had mine I had my confidence knocked too - but whoever said that comment to you is a bad person that you shoudl ignore. I think Kassy's on to something when she says that this person might be jealous of you. When I had my kiddies, me and my then hubby separated and I was a single mum working away and it was absolute hell, but you know what my kids are my world and without doubt if I had to do it all again, I wouldn't hesitate! Your get the last laugh - don't give up hope! If people were in your shoes they probably wouldn't be able to accomplish half of what your doing right now and so literally try not to take their comments seriously (easier said than done I know!). You deserve a round of applause for what your doing right now!!! |

Lisacollins00 - that is very interesting what your derm said to you regarding the Retin A. What are you using to exfoliate with? |

For daily exfoliation I use St. Ives Apricot Invigorating Cleanser that has small beads.
St. Ives also has an Apricot cleanser for acne blemishes but it has really large sharper beads in it that are probably not good for daily use unless you have some tough skin. The invigorating cleanser has smaller beads that are not as sharp and are more useful for people who have sensitive skin.
Some days when my skin really has the flakies in the laugh line areas I will take the acne blemish one and mix it with some of my regular cleanser to help reduce the sharpness of the beads and then use it right on the laugh lines. So far if I exfoliate daily and moisturize the laugh line areas really good I am able to almost totally reduce the appearance of them. |

Maheen,
Please remember that while you're doing Nuderm, lots of superficial lines/wrinkles tend to look very "exaggerated" for a while. But after your skin gets better acclimated, your lines will soften too.
Don't stop smiling! You've got a lot to be happy about!! |

Lisacollins thank u soo much for the info...the story u told me is actually my story seems like u and i have experoenced the same thing...how i got the laugh lines is exaclty the same as u got them...may be the difference is that i didnt have even a slight trace of laugh lines before sartinf the retin a...aaah....but u know,,,what ur derm told u seems like a very good advise...i m definitely going to do that and now i m getting a bit hopeful that may be they ll diminish that way....and u r also right about keep that area very moisturized....but its wierd, using tretinoin should have erased the lines instead of becoming a reason of getting them,,,
Thanks a bunches... |

Oh Maheen1..I am so sorry that you felt so sad...but I am so glad that our generous and wise forum members has such kind words and thoughts to share and that they could help you feel better....
I too am starting to get some lines on my forehead and under my eyes...and am trying to get proactive about them,...seriously no one except me can see them..but they still make me a bit sad....(plus i have acne...i know very pretty! )
But when i am with my children....i forget all about these issues and try to just enjoy their company and feel incredibly blessed....As Kassy said, what are these lines? they mean we have lived!
just wanted to share
Take care |

in my case, retin-a really solved all these problems. more than 2 years ago, my laugh lines were begin to show. i use retin-a on my whole face, and i actually put extra amount on these 2 lines, and i dunno how long it took, but they are gone.
i guess it really depends on person. |

m. so I'm intrigued by some of the comments made here regarding Retin A use in your 30s. Now bear with me but for maheen1 (OP),lisacollins00, and me (we're the one's that mentioned we were in our 30s. Sorry if I'm missing anyone) it seems that Retin A made laugh lines worse. Are your 30s still too young to use Retin A products? Lisacollins mentioned a speeding up of skin turn over by using Retin A. Are we not supposed to be shedding skin that quickly, at least, not in our 30s?
I'm hoping that someone with some experience on Retin A can chime in? Is it just a matter of dehydration and things will go back to normal? Or are they lines that were caused because of the overdrying nature of the Retin A? OR are the lines that would have appeared in later life, but we sped up the process of bringing them to the surface by using Retin A?
Any way to make the lins go away then, or are they permanent? Lisacollins mentioned exfoliation and moisturization but I'm not sure if exfoliation would exacerbate the problem?
Sorry for all the questions, my brain just started coming up with all these questions. Thanks for any info. I thing it would help guide a lot of us using Retin A and seeing things get worse not beter. |

My opinion is that the lines people see when the first start using retinoids are due to dehydration and that they will improve with continued use. Most of the results of Retin A come at the very earliest 6 months with best results coming in at the 1 year mark. |

I'm not sure if 30 is too young for Retin A, but I tried it in my 40's and my experience with it was not good. It really dried out my skin, making it red and blotchy and did nothing for any fine lines. Products with glycolic acid work much better for me.
...and maheen1, please, please do not obsess about laugh lines - life's too short!!!! Just enjoy each day with your baby and keep smiling! |
