For those of you who buy bagged salad, becareful! The article that is linked below talks about how Ecoli has been found in prepackaged salads.
--------------------
****This was also verified withwww.snopes.com ****
NBC Dateline did a documentary on cut-up lettuce and spinach in plastic bags. They took us through the whole process and talked about how the Ecoli bacteria is now showing up in the salad mix in bags. They don't know yet how the Ecoli got in, but they do know that deaths and serious sicknesses are occurring in many states.
One woman told about how her child was near death from the lettuce and was sick for a long time. They warned us not to buy any bag salads until they find out from the investigation what is causing this contamination.
The Dole Company has recalled their bags. See the links below.

I know it's EASY and QUICK with prechopped veggies, salad etc. But jeeeeez what a waste of packaging, and how many vitamins are still in the goodies when they are prepared in that way? And not knowing who or what has been handling the things you pop in your mouth - raw. Washing and preparing your food is all part of the relaxing deal of cooking IMO. |

I rarely buy bagged salad after reading it was full of bleach and other chemicals used in the washing process.
Also I noticed I always had diareah after eating bagged salad which shows something was not right.
I now always wash all my salad and any fruit in a solution of water and Apple Cider Vineger. |

That's scary Rosebud!
I'm guessing the ACV kills off any germs? Smart! |

Salad is *really* easy to grow in a windowbox and cheap too. You just get a packet of cut and come again seeds ,chuck some in cover lightly with soil, remember to water and 3 weeks later you have the contents of a salad bag. You can get italian salad mixes, French salad mixes etc etc. You can 'cut' and it will 'come again', also you can keep sowing more seeds so you have a regular supply. |
