I just had to share.
I've had a terrible month. I've taken over a new role at work and it just gets more and more stressful with every day that passes.
So our office closes early yesterday for the 4th of July holiday, and although I stayed much later than the rest of the floor, I still managed to leave early enough to treat myself to a pedicure before rushing home to tend to my pups.
I get the pedicure and it turns out beautifully... the color I chose is fantastic and for a brief moment in time, I am happy.
I get home and take the pups for our usual pre-dinner walk around the cul de sac behind my house. I have to be careful, though, because one of the homeowners yelled at me before that my dogs were ruining the edge of his lawn with their pee. My dogs had never peed on his lawn before but rather than antagonize an already abrasive man, I politely promised to stay away from his property.
So off we go, strolling happily, chatting with other neighbors, when the abrasive man's dog bursts from his garage, unleashed, runs straight towards me and my pups, jumps my pups, and PEES ON MY FEET while I am struggling to keep my dogs under control. I couldn't let go of my pups' leashes because they are greyhounds and can run 40 miles per hour... once they take off to play, they're gone. They need to be in fenced-in areas to play.
Well, my toes must have been a little tacky from the polish because when I rubbed my feet on my pants in horror, just wanting to dry them quickly before getting home and leaping to the shower, I smudged a few of the toes and now the pedicure is ruined. The abrasive man didn't even acknowledge me... he just screamed expletives at his dog to get him to run back home.
Can a girl get a break? |

I don't know where you live but isn't there a leash law? I know in Cook County, IL (Chicago) this is the case. You can get in major trouble for letting your animal out without a leash. Shame on him! I'm terrified of dogs and have been chased down TWICE in the last couple years just strolling through my own neighborhood on streets or paths! I seriously thought one time this was it, I was going to be mawled.. I actually had to climb a tree, and all I was doing was going for a sunset walk. I live in forest preserve (actually I live right where the Lake House was filmed.. right there on that property was where I was chased once!). I guess someone was around the lake and their dog was lose and ran off. Terrifying, but people do it all the time! They think its forest preserve and they can do that! It REALLY gets me mad! At least when you know who the owner is you can do something about it (or not if you don't want to cause problems...).. but in my case I never even got to see who the owner was, I just got to hide in a tree until the dog left. *grrrr* |

Having two dogs myself it was not hard picturing the scene. Surely it was stressful for you. Sorry, but I had to laugh imagining the whole thing . Perhaps your neighbor will think twice before complaining about your dogs again. |

Sorry, but I don't find this funny at all! Kinda remind me of the people who let their kids run all over and then expect you to smile and say how cute they are..
I had a dog at my throat when I was young, and had it not been for my parents seeing it FAST, I would have been dead.. NO, I wasn't doing anything to the dog! My daughter was also nipped at by a neighbor dog before I could get to her.. Leash laws exist for a reason... Just because someone owns dogs, doesn't make it OK to allow yours to run and jump free on them or anyone else.
I'd give him a bill for your pedi... And honestly, I'd call animal contol if his letting the dogs run without leashes happens again//
No, I'm not a mean animal hater.. I have 3 cats.. What I am is intolerant of people like this...
I hope ther rest of your weekend goes smoothly.. |

Poor you. That man is so mean. He should have apologized for what his dog did and reimburse you for the pedicure. |

The leash law here allows a dog to be off leash so long as the dog is within the owner's control. So yes, abrasive man did violate the leash law because that dog was OUT OF CONTROL!
This guy is way too volatile to confront but I think that "the playing field has been leveled." I don't think he'll be complaining about my pups peeing any more (even though they never peed there in the first place).
Interestingly, on our walk tonight, I saw the crazy dog in his back yard. The yard is fenced in, but the abrasive man and his family were clearly not home. So the dog was stuck outside, unattended, in brutal heat and humidity. Another violation of our dog laws.
So we'll just keep filing these things away until he escalates, or I decide that he's mistreating the dog. No wonder the dog behaved so badly - he's probably de-socialized and lonely.
Thanks everyone for indulging in my pity party. I must have been quite a sight! |
