I am set with my own regimen but get samples all the time. So I have a drawer FILLED with a bunch of stuff I know I'll never use.

I recently started volunteer work for a battered women's shelter. Those women are feeling as low as you can feel. their lives have been turned upside down. Some have never worked and now have to go out in the world and find a job. their spirits have been broken b/c their partner has told them they are nothing and will never be anything. and not to mention what they tell them about their looks. And for some time, their appearance has taken back seat b/c they have just been trying to SURVIVE.

So I am empying the contents of that drawer and taking it down to the shelter. They can help themselves to any of it and give themselves a "beauty night" with it or use it in the future.

For someone who cannot afford to even buy something to get these samples, it would be very nice for them to have.

So if any of you have some extra products you know you won't use, call the nearest shlter and see if you can drop that off. Also they are always in need of clothes. Like I said, they have to go out and get jobs and sometimes they won't even want to take a job that would be good for them b/c they don't have the wardrobe for it. sometimes they flee their homes with just the clothes on their backs, really. That is so common and they have nothing really nothing but their hopes for a safe and secure future. So by doing this, I can't tell you how this lifts their spirits as well.

You can get a receipt for tax purposes and organize your closets and drawers and have made a contribution to someone who could really use a boost. We take for granted all that WE have when others have so little so it feels good t do this.

Just a thought...

Wendy

PS. Shelters in the area always need volunteers of other strong women to help these women and children so if you have the time, volunteer your services if you can. If just a handful of you take this oppurtunity, some lives can change... That is somthing to think about.

This is a fabulous option, Wendy. You're right....skin care is the last concern on their minds. A little pampering can lift spirits and help the soul. I donate all my hotel shampoos, lotions, mouthwash, etc to a local Women's Program. I also donate my business suits, and other professional clothing, accessories like briefcases, portfolios etc when they don't fit, or I'm tired of them. (They're in great shape, and typically classics, so they don't really go out of style.) The women are so appreciative. I do love this particular center, as they give women a hand up, not a hand out, and assist with not only housing, but with job searching, and the prep that goes along with it. I became acquainted with this group four years ago when I closed my downtown office and opened a new one 'out west.' Rather than than move the furniture, and older office equipment, or take the time/effort to sell, I searched for a good non-profit to donate it to. I just wanted to get rid of the stuff....but they saw it as some sort of miracle....the staff were so grateful. When I had an opportunity to visit, I was grateful that such a program exists...it certainly is humbling.
oops....sorry for the babble....
I was also going to ask Wendy where she gets all her samples!! I just don't ever get them. The various counters here are not generous with them....the only one's that I seem to get are through EDS....then I use them fairly quickly!

Donating these types of things are a way for anyone to help....great topic, Wendy.

I get them from online purchases mostly and I did get some stuff from Sephora that I just won't use.

I'm thinking about also talking to some of the local beauty schools and seeing if they would donate their time (they certainly need the practice) to a "spa day" for the ladies every few months. you know hair styling, pedicures, manicure and facials. That would be great too.

I used to just give my clothes to the local reasle shops and they say the money goes towards programs for the hospital but I KNOW this stuff goes directly to these women. They get vouchers to use at the resale shop where all the clothes are brought and they have first choice before it is sold. They don't have to pay a dime. So that makes me feel better.
