So I'm originally from Michigan and we went to Canada all the time.
But as of Dec 31st of this year, you will have to show a passport to go to Canada and Mexico (I now live within 50 miles of Mexico)
Do folks from Canada have to do anything different because of the new law in the US when visiting the States?
I have a passport, not that big of a deal I guess...
Canada is like home to me...we went there all the time, I didn't even realize it was a separate country til I was 10.
Sigh.
I miss the Soo.
And Toronto
And Windsor
and...so many other places... |

I believe at the end of this year, Canadians will have to show their passport when going to the US (not sure about Mexico). |

It's still up in the air. Some of the provinces and states are trying to delay the passport thing.
I didn't think americans had to show it to get into canada yet... |

Not yet...but as of Dec 31st 2006...or at least the State Department is saying we are going have to...we'll have to posses a passport to travel to Canada and Mexico.
Sigh.
It's a product of 9/11.

I just looked up passport requirements from the website of the U.S. Department of State. It says:
As of Dec 31 2006 all air & sea travel will require a passport entering the U.S. (This includes Canada).
Dec 31 2007 all land border crossing, sea & air will require a passport. (Includes Canada as well).

And Windsor quote]
Ironically, I am originally from Windsor, ON, and also lived in Toronto (years-ago!)
As you know, both Canada and the U.S. are slowly making changes to the way we cross our borders. Eventually, everyone will have to have a passport to do-so, but both governments realize that this will be slow-going. Passports aren't cheap, as we know! Mine was about $100 by the time I'd paid for photos, etc.
For now, those whom don't have a passport c an continue to travel with their * spam *, birth certificate, or proof of * spam *. Two pieces of i.d. |
