So I wanted to remove some hair on my upper lip. I bought some sort of Sally Hansen product... I believe it was called a creme hair remover or something (specifically designed for the face)...I used as directed,, but afterwards noticed some distinct redness/irritation above my lips, especially at the corners.
It faded some over the course of two days to the point where I forgot about it (aside from some mild stinging sensations). Not really thinking about it, I used a glycolic cleanser tonight (10%) and it has irritated the hell out of that upper lip area. I have a ton of redness, almost with a "milk mustache" effect.
The problem is I have a few important things to do tomorrow where I need to be looking my best (an important event at work and then a date later in the evening). I really need something that will make these red patches die down some! I know makeup would only flare it up more.
For now I'm just pressing cold water on it... but if anyone has any ideas for me, I am so all ears! Keep in mind it's getting late where I am so I won't be able to run to any stores (although I would consider going to an all-night pharmacy as a last resort). |

I had a similar thing only it was nair for face, the creme stuff and I used retinal awhile after without thinking. I would have to say, keep it iced, like wrap a peice of ice in some thin cloth and keep that on there as long as you can. |

Hi there,
Hope you are doing better. I want to suggest aloe as a skin soother. I would get the most natural aloe product you can lay your hands on or buy an aloe leaf or plant, cut off a small piece, peel it and apply in a thin coat.
Good Luck! |

This has happened to me before-- redness from depilatories. Aloe gel with lidocaine will help with the redness and burning, and I wouldn't be afraid to apply makeup. MMU would do the trick, if you use it. |

Thanks for the tips everyone.
Just wanted to update: this redness ended up lasting about 2-3 days total. The first day it looked like hell... like a kid who had been drinking Kool-Aid but forgotten to wipe off the residue. The redness faded thanks to a combination of time, salt water (swimming in the ocean), and aloe with lidocaine, as Violetanne mentioned.
Though the rash/burn is completely gone now, I'm just posting this to warn others of using depilatories on the face. I've had mild problems with them before, and this time it really went over the top and really messed up a couple of days for me, definitely affecting my lifestyle. My skin is pretty tough and can take a lot, but the chemicals in depilatories are, in my opinion, just too harsh for facial skin (even if the product is specifically designed for that area). So watch out! |
