You know, I never, ever would have thought that putting oils onto your skin could actually HELP your skin balance and produce less oil on its own. But it's true! I'm so glad that I found EDS and learned about this from so many here!
I've been using the PSF Balancing Oil and at first I thought it just made me shiny, but this past week it IS like everything has balanced and I don't have the shiny tzone any longer by mid day. My skin was never super oily to begin with, but I did get that mid day shine I always hated. I just can't believe that all those years I always was careful to only buy oil free products! No wonder my skin became so dehydrated. I never realized the RIGHT oils can actually help your skin become more normal.
I can't wait to see what I learn next! |

I'm with you Moonstarr!
I shuddered when I first heard everyone talk about putting oil on the face...I cringed even more when I learned some of them had oily skin like me!
Wha?!?!?
I'm using decleor ylang ylang oil...and its not breaking me out! I've read that it takes time for the oil control to kick in, but if it works it will be worth it.
If ylang ylang doesn't work...I'll try the DH normalizing...
how do you fit it into your routine?
tia! |

I am so amazed at how putting oil on your skin and/or using it as a cleanser can actually HELP the acne breakouts! My skin is sooooo much better -- dramatically -- since I've found this forum and started following all the advice in it.
I'm using Dr. H products. I started doing the OCM about 1 1/2 months ago and now for the past 2 weeks I've been doing DIY Ylang Ylang oil. I think it's time to take a break from the Ylang Ylang oil but I have really seen a difference in my skin since I've added this to my rountine. As I run out of my Dr. H products and I can't afford to replace them right now, I've actually become creative in my oil blends. I am going to whip up a batch tonight with a few more calming essential oils in it because I think I've used the ylang ylang for a few days longer than I should have (my skin's a touch too dry right now).
I'm such a skin care junkie that I've always had such a stash of products around. Well, since I've converted to natural products, I'm starting to see my pile of stuff go down and my sink area less cluttered! I am totally converted to the DIY blends and the Dr. H products. I love how there are so many different types of oils out there. I have a stash of different ones under my sink and I pull out ones that are suitable to my skin at that moment. It's great, cheap and natural! Of course, some people don't like the smell of olive oil or some of the other ones out there. I don't mind it because it's natural and subtle to me and it usually goes away fast. I'm also avoiding products right now with strong smells or added fragrances because of my newborn. Once my baby gets older, I will mix in some essential oils in and use that instead of just the straight oil.
Only one caveat: I need to plan well so I can leave time for the oil to sink in! |

Right now I'm using it right after my Vitamin C serum in the AM, and then at night before my retinol. (AM: 02 Serum, Vit C, Bal. Oil, Moisturizer ... PM: O2 Serum, Bal. Oil, Retinol).
I'm not sure if that's the proper order ... but that's how I'm been doing things (unless someone tells me I should be doing it differently. ) |

That's similar to the way I'm going to work it into my routine once I get my next order in.
though I think I'm going to bring my oil use down to just in the morning and use the balms at night (ylang ylang balm for a few weeks, then the essential balm)
in the same place I'm using the oil now.
Sounds like a plan! |

Try Jojoba Oil, it is great for sensitive skin and can be used for hair as well.
Also it is far cheaper than the branded oils and you can always mix in your own essential oils. |

I've been using the OCM method with a 50/50 ratio EVOO and CO and my chin is breaking out really bad. Every since I had my son I've had problems with breakouts on my chin and it cleared up when I started using Arbonne Moisturizer but now it's back. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong since everybody raves about this method? I have been using steam and massaging it for about 5 minutes. |

For anyone who might respond to my above message I have been getting breakouts on my cheeks now too which has never happened to me. Do I need to try a different oil? I'm very new to this. |

Maybe use less EVOO in the ratio, it's more of a moisturizer than CO. You can search old threads too, there's a lot on the topic.

I love jojoba oil! It gets off eyeliner and splotchy self-tanner like nothing else and it's great to mix with my conditioner for extra moisture. |

Dawndee2 --
You could also replace the EVOO with something like hazelnut oil. It sinks in quickly and it's supposed to be good for skin with acne. You just have to keep the oil bottle in the fridge and mix up small bottles of your cleansing oil. I do this and I must refill my bottle every three weeks. I use other oils besides hazelnut (my skin does like the EVOO) but I use the hazelnut in my DIY ylang ylang oil and I LOVE it. It seems to work well for me. |

Rosebud,
How and where do you apply the jojoba oil? Do you need to dilute it? |

What about carrier oils? Do I need to use a carrier oil for the hazelnut or jojoba if I use it in the OCM? |

As far as I know, hazelnut oil and jojoba oil are themselves carrier oils. I've been told that you need those types of oils if you use essential oils because the essential oils need to be diluted in something first. |
