Hi everybody! Thanks for the great forum!
I have a question about toner, is it necessary? I have oily skin with occasional breakouts, and I'm using MD Formulation cleanser and GlyDerm lotion lite 10, do I need a toner in between? And for moisturizer, I'm using Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion. Can someone advise what toner does and if it is necessary? If so, what would you recommend?.
Thanks very much,
Pooh
P.S.
I just placed my order for the above products with EDS today, can't wait for them to arrive. I hope I can get a lot of samples to try too! :P

Hey Pooh Bear, what a cute name!
My personal opinion on toner is that it's not really necessary - you can do without it. However, I still use it From my point of view, there are three main benefits of toners. First of all it helps to take off any remaining cleanser that may be left on your skin after cleansing. Second, depending on the toner, it helps moisturise your skin. And third, also depending on the toner, it may have a lot of antioxidants, vitamins and other goodies that are good for your skin in the long term.
So, while I don't think it's a necessity, I do enjoy using it and hope that long term I am doing something that my skin will thank me for
I'm sure you will love your EDS parcel, I've been thrilled by every EDS parcel I have got so far and I'm currently "researching" the contents of my next order.

Hi Mabsy, thanks so much! Btw, I like your avatar, it's so cute!
Okie, my next question is, what toner would you recommend? Please let me know which is good for my skin?
Oh, one more question, what about an SPF protection? I'm going to use the GlyDerm Lotion 10, I believe I do need some kind of sunscreen protection, but my skin is too oily. I've found that any moisturizer with an SFP15 is too oily for my skin. Is there a good non-oily moisturizer with a SPF protection that won't make my skin break out? Please help! I've read reviews about the Dermalogica Oil control lotion, but this doesn't have any sunscreen in it, do I need to use another sunscreen product underneath this?. Please help, as I'm so dumb in this department!
Thanks very much,
Pooh

Hey Pooh Bear,
I've got skin that ranges between normal and combo. I've been using the Phytomer Face Dew lotion and I love it! I've also just tried the other Phytomer Eau Marine Lotion and I like that too (I think I might get this one as opposed to getting another bottle of the Face Dew ). However I don't know if these would be suitable for you.
In terms of the moisturisers with SPF, I really like the Dermalogica Sheer Moisture one and I don't find it to be oily at all. However, different people different skins, it might be a good idea for you to email EDS and ask for a professional recommendation.

Toner is, indeed, important. This restores the skin's pH level, prepares it for treatment(s) and moisturizer, and removes any traces of cleanser that may be left on the skin.
Like Mabsy, I too like the Phytomer Rosee Visage/Face Dew Lotion. This is very gentle, and can even be used to remove eye make-up! However, everyone has different needs; some prefer a more mattifying toner, etc. |

I agree with Mabsy that Toner is not a necessary part of skin care routine in my opinion. There is an informative article you can check out on
www.ivillage.co.uk ca entitled "Toners are they necessary?" by Josephine Fairley. Here is an excerpt.
"Beauty guru Eve Lom insists that whatever your skin type, if you are cleansing properly, you don't need toner. In fact, if you have oily or blemished skin, overuse of a strong toner can be a bad thing. Leading facialist Amanda Lacey says, 'The biggest beauty mistake oily-skinned women make is constantly trying to swipe away oil. If you keep stripping your skin, oil production goes into overdrive, worsening the problem'. Once you begin to use a toner, it becomes a vicious cycle. 'Harsh astringents disturb the pH level, or the acid balance in the skin, while removing important natural oils,' says Lacey. She also points out that the natural combination of oil and sweat forms a useful barrier that protects our faces from bacteria, pollution and other environmental assaults. It also helps prevent the skin's own moisture from evaporating.
If you do decide to use a toner or 'skin freshener', then look for one that's labelled 'gentle' or alcohol-free, as alcohol is ultra-drying to the skin. Avoid any product that refers to itself as 'astringent' or 'refining', as these tend to contain alcohol." HTH
