I have heard some people's suggestions, and tried them out. But so far, none seem to work.
I have really oily skin with blackheads, whiteheads, and acne scars.
I will try anything Very Happy

Have you tried Proactiv? I think it's worth a shot for anyone struggling with acne. I've used it a long time and it still works.

Hi hockeychick101,

A good deal depends upon how old you are ... and what sort of acne you have.

One of the keys is making sure that the area of your face that has blackheads is treated properly. Take my word for it ... getting those pores clear of those blackheads is vital ...

I do use OCM which certainly has helped me keep blackheads virtually removed. I also, however, use a washcloth to "massage" in small circles in my blackhead areas in order to work out any stubborn ones. The washcloth helps to push them out of the pores ... but you don't want to "attack" the area too harshly. If you put whatever cleanser you prefer onto your dampened face ... then dampen the washcloth ... and moving in small, gentle circles around the area, just stimulate a little. I generally try to do it slowly ... because then I'm more careful. This is very relaxing ... and it gets the blood flowing to those areas as well as helping to keep those pores very very clean.

There are some who also use a small electric toothbrush [with a very soft head] on the affected areas ... and I gather this works very well too. You might try a search on "toothbrush" to see if you can find the threads where this is discussed.

There are also commercial facial brushes that are available.

Some people have terrific results with ProActiv ... but I'm not sure what sort of acne that responds best to it.

If you give us a bit more information I'm sure more people will jump in to help. For instance, if you're over a certain age, exfoliation might be an answer ... but if you're under a certain age, too much exfoliation may be a problem for you.

Good luck

Mary

I have battled acne all of my life, and I still get adult hormonal cystic acne spots on my chin and jawline. I have tried EVERYTHING throughout my life--various topical antibiotics, various oral antibiotics, Accutane twice, taking supplements [Digestive Enzymes, Probiotics, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, B Vitamins, Evening Primrose Oil caps, Flaxseed Oil caps, Fish Oil caps, Praventin ( http://www.vitacost.com/NSIPraventin ), Murad Pure Skin Clarifying Supps ( http://www.essentialdayspa.com/murad-pure-skin-clarifyin-p_1348.htm )], as well as about a zillion topical skin care products. NOTHING WORKED! Then, thanks to the suggestions of some EDS Forum members, I asked my Dr. for a prescription of Clindamycin gel. I have been using it twice a day for 2 weeks now, and IT WORKS! The first 3 days of using it I had some breakouts, but since then I haven't had any spots come up. The only drawback is that I think it's making my skin oilier/shinier, but I don't mind as long as my face is not breaking out. I have yet to see how my skin does during a PMS bout, but I have high hopes so far.
Other changes I have made in my skincare routine re: acne care--
*I still take oral supplements (Digestive Enzymes, Probiotics, Zinc, Vit A, Vit C, Vit E, B Vites, Flaxseed Oil caps, Fish Oil caps)
*I use Carekate's DIY Super Sonic Aspirin Mask almost every evening.
*I use Carekate's DIY ACV toner after cleansing.
*I change my pillow case EVERY NIGHT.
*I use a clean washcloth (scrub very gently) & clean towel EVERY time I wash my face.
*I try to keep my hands off my face during the day--no touching/picking, no resting my chin in my hand.
But, keep in mind, nothing really worked for me until I started using the Clindamycin Gel topical antibiotic. Thank you to all the EDS Forum members who recommended this!
