Zoe, you don't want DMAE and Argeriline in the same formula. They counteract each other. DMAE increases surface tension (thus the "firming" effect") and Argeriline decreases surface tension (thus the smoothing out of wrinkles). It's better to either use each in specific areas or find a product that uses something other than DMAE for firming. (Retinol, Vitamin C, Matrixyl, etc. all firm skin through collagen stimulation.) |

Oops really? I've been using Nexugen as it key selling point was that it contained all 3 anti-ageing ingredients!

Nexugen Anti-Wrinkle Concentrate is the most unique anti-aging skin care product ever created. Our exclusive, Tri-Blend serum contains a powerful combination of 20% Argireline, DMAE, and Hylauronic Acid.
Each of these 3 vital ingredients are independently recognized by dermatologists and skin care professionals as the most powerful natural alternatives to Botox® injections or cosmetic surgery.
1. Argireline gently relaxes the muscles under the areas of application. This causes less tension between the facial muscles and skin which gives the appearance of smoother skin
2. DMAE works to firm and tighten the top layers of the skin, giving the effect of naturally tight and toned skin.
3. Hyaluronic Acid penetrates to the deep layers of the skin providing collagen support to fill and tone the areas of application |

I'm not sure that there is such a contradiction, although on the surface there's an obvious one if you just say 'firming' and 'relaxing'. I think it would all depend on what the exact action of DMAE is to achieve the firming and the Argeline's exact mechanism for smoothing. It could work on different parts of the skin to achieve this. I know some people say don't use them together, but other products use them combined too, such as JB's Alphaderma. I've never been clear, but often if you look at the exact details of these actives, it's often more specific and complicated than you think. Was there ever a discussion about this over Alphaderma, maybe in my distant memory. And young skin is both 'firm' and 'relaxed', but exactly how I can't say. M |
