I thought I would pass this on seeing as so many members have Camellia seed oil in the cabinets. I have two types of Camellia oil .. the Silkia and the Epiderm one. While browsing the Rosa Y Fruita website, I noticed that she does a pure organic camellia oil cleanser (though hers also has rosemary extract in it).
So, I decided to try a test using my Epiderm one for a cleanse (especially appropriate seeing as I am still on my Dr. H/no chemical month). Using filtered water, I wet a Silcot pad and pressed out the excess. Then I put 3 pumps of the oil on the pad and proceeded to wipe over my entire face, concentrating on the "problem" areas (nose and chin). I had no make-up on, but I was surprised by the grey color of the pad when I was done. eww. I then did the same procedure for my neck. Following that, I put a flannel in hot water, wrung it out and placed on my face for 5 seconds, then proceeded to gently wipe over the entire face and neck area to remove excess oil. I then followed with a cold/cool flannel. The end result was that my skin was lovely and clean and soft as a baby's bum.
I might give it a go tonight under a normal OCM type method (ie massage on and then remove) to compare. I am not really a huge OCM fan - tried DHC and Shu Uemura and did not like them; Babor is somewhat nicer - as it is just too messy for me. Applying direct to the pad rather than massaging made a big difference in the messiness department. I think this would be nicest in winter, but even in the mid of summer it felt good. I finished with a spritz of Dr. H. Facial Tonic and 2 of the Sensitive Ampoules.
So, if you have some camellia oil in the house that needs using up, here is a way to do it! I am not sure that this would work as well with Silkia as the quality of that one is not as good as the Epiderm one (if you have both you can really see/feel the difference in refinement and purity). I never use the Silkia one now, except for a bit of hair treatment sometimes. |

Hi tiger_tim,
I have been using RyF's camellia oil to clean my face for the past 2 months. I started using cotton pads then tisa recommended massaging the oil directly onto the face. I found that by massage the oil, I was able to see all the dead skin ball up (sorry for the gross detail).
I follow with a few wet cotton pads then a wet wash cloth. I can remove even more dead skin. I must have tons of dead skin build up from the retinoid I use. I still have clogged pores but I had no breakouts or bad reactions.
I have tried a few cleansing oil type cleanser like babor and vernacular skin works and they both broke me out. |
