I started taking this supplement to help my problem-prone skin not break out as often. Anyway, I have noticed that my skin looks a little better (not anything to write home about though), but the one thing I have noticed is that my under -eye dark circles look a lot better.
I know that milk thistle helps the liver function more effectively and so, somehow, this kind of detox has helped me look a little bit fresher by not having tired looking eyes Although I don't tend to have heavy bags, I have certainly noticed an improvement in this area.
Any other milk thistle users noticed that their eye-bags look better? |

This is on my list of supplements to try for my acne-prone skin. What a great benefit if it helped with undereye circles as well How long have you been using it?

Is there any bad and negative effects if we take Milk Thistle in long term? |

I have been taking milk thistle supplement for more than 1 year now. No side-effects..
I don't know about any direct effects on skin, but the actives in milk thistle are silymarin and silybin which are strong antioxidants that help liver metabolism. |

I've been taking milk thistle and evening primrose oil for about 3 weeks now, after reading Spontaneous Healing by Dr. Weil. According to him, the primrose oil is directly beneficial for the skin, while I figure the milk thistle will bolster my liver while I live in a very polluted environment and indirectly help my skin. I really can't say I've seen any results. But I haven't seen any harmful effects either. What's funny is my bottle of primrose oil says "PMS Support" in large pink letters. I thought for a moment on whether to buy it as I'm a guy. |

Is it a tablet or liquid? How much does one take? Sounds pretty good. |

AS my son and hubby have a hereditary liver enzyme problem, they have been taking this on and off for years, with breaks in between. Great liver regulator. |

From Spontaneous Healing by Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D., if you're interested.
Milk Thistle
A most interesting tonic herb from the tradition of European folk medicine is milk thistle, Silybum marianum. The seeds of this plant yield an extract, silymarin, that enhances metabolism of liver cells and protects them from toxic injury. Although the pharmaceutical industry has produced many drugs that damage the liver, it offers nothing to match the protective effect of milk thistle, which is itself nontoxic.
Anyone who is a heavy user of alcohol should take milk thistle regularly, as should patients using pharmaceutical drugs that are hard on the liver, including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. I recommend this herb to all patients with chronic hepatitis and abnormal liver function, and have seen cases of normalization of liver function in persons who took it every day for several months and also worked to improve their diets and lifestyles. If you work with toxic chemicals or feel you have suffered toxic exposures from any source, take milk thistle. It will help your body recover from any harm.
You will find milk thistle products in all health food stores. My preference is to use standardized extracts in tablet or capsule form. Follow the suggested dosage on the product you buy, or take two tablets or capsules twice a day. You can stay on milk thistle indefinitely. |

I heard that it was supposed to help you to recover from hangovers. So I took some for a while before and after a party way back at Christmas time. It didn't work for me, unfortunately.
What's really embarrassing, though, is that I still ended up with a stonking hangover after drinking only 1...yes, that's right, ONE glass of gin and tonic.
I really think that gin doesn't like me. |

Darn it! I was going to try this for my cruise since I will definitely be having plenty of drinks! |

Well, it may not help your hangover, but it might do good things for your liver. Maybe just steer clear of any gin on your cruise! Besides, I'm such a lightweight when it comes to alcohol - a real disgrace to my culture, where drinking and fighting are the favourite local hobbies. |

I take this regularly and no it doesn't help with hangovers, but it does get rid of that aching liver feeling you get after drinking a lot.
I should just stop drinking I suppose |

Milk thistle is great for the liver, but I wouldn't think it would do anything to help with hangovers. For your cruise you should try that product called Chaser - they sell it at drugstores. I believe you take two pills when you start drinking, and then take it again after every 2 drinks. Something like that. I've tried it a few times and haven't had a hangover, though I'm not sure if at those times I drank enough to have gotten a hangover anyway. But a friend of mine test drove it with a night of heavy drinking and was hangover free! |

I tried this years ago after reading about it on another forum.
It takes 3-4 weeks to see results. It helps me with cystic type acne along my jawline. I usually take 2-3 capsules with food (as directed on bottle) It is a preventative; it does not help heal the ones that are already there.
I usually take it for a few weeks (or when I run out); take a break and then start up again.
I did not notice a difference in undereye circles but then mine are not so noticeable. |

milk thistle has definately helped improve my skin.
I also take it if I've eaten alot of greasy food or overindulged with alcohol and sweets. |

Nope. My dark circles are naturally-occuring, have been part of my life since childhood, and though I've occasionally taken Milk Thistle to detox. my liver, I usually end up drinking during this too ... redundant.
Better to take for zits: Apple Cider Vinegar & Zinc. |
