*sigh* Its time I started acting like a proper wife and actually cooked something for my poor husband, I have probably cooked a total of five meals in the two years we have been together. Cool I actually like to cook but dont have any recipes. What I am asking of you ladies(and gents!)is when you have a moment to please post your favorite recipe(s)or a recipe that you think no household should be without. They can be dinner, dessert, holiday, whatever...Lay it on me! TIA! Very Happy

Well, I really don't have any favorite recipes since I'm single and rarely cook myself. But, as I too am trying to prepare myself for one day being a good wife to my husband, I've been trying to pick it up as well. I would recommend going to the food network's website and checking out some of their recipes. I really like Rachael Ray's 30 minute meals show because they are not only generally healthy meals, but they can be made in 30 minutes (a HUGE plus for me). The problem I find with cooking meals from tv shows and other recipes, is that you have to have SO many ingredients on hand and I HATE to grocery shop. I guess I'll have to get around that somehow if I ever want to truly be a home chef! Laughing

You asked for it...lol - there WAS a thread on here asking a similar question, I can't find it anywhere....drat...But know ALOT of people will be adding theirs soon.

ANYWAY....I use this site ALL the time -

http://allrecipes.com/

I'll dig out my recipe books later but for now this is a favorite in my house & guys especially seem to love it. Nice thing here is the site will allow you to adjust the serving size amounts.

OMG Candy, I love love LOVE that site!!!!

I use it usually around the holidays when I need to take a dish to the family functions whether it be mine or the b/f's.

I think I'm beginning to realize that I'm a baker and not much of a cooker. I hear you're either one or the other.

I don't cook much being single and all and ever since my brother left for the Navy it's hard to come home and cook for myself. Crying or Very sad

I'm a big crock pot / slow cooker fan... It's just a matter of throwing everything in a pot and eating a few hours later! Very little prep time. I turn it on right before I leave for work and by the time we're all home it's ready to eat!

I can't post direct links yet, but here's a couple of my favorite sites... (When can I start doing that?)

i use allrecipes.com too. I don't even know why I have cookbooks at home. I have gotten a lot of compliments on food I've made from that site. (I usually only pick the well reviewed 5 star recipes.) It's great for when you are trying to use up what you already have. You can select ingredients to searcch for in the recipes.

I like the recipes from the Whole Foods site. I don't think I've run into a bad one. Most are pretty simple, which is a huge plus with me.

http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/index.html

I also like the recipes from the China Moon cookbook, but they take a lot of time.

Okay as some of you know, I'm going to the Bears Game tomorrow and will also be tailgaiting. We're gonna do the usual burgers and hotdogs probably, but I kinda want to make italian beef.

I can slow cook it tonight, but is there a way to transport this? I assume you have to reheat the meat and the juices, seems as though I may be out of luck on this notion.

I wonder if they sell these in stores... It's a portable slow cooker you can plug into your car's cigarette lighter!

Here's something really easy to do with a crockpot. It might be a little southern for some of you, but I promise, it's good!

Get a beef roast and stab little holes in it all over. Put a clove of garlic in each hole (or a piece of a clove, if they're large). Rub the outside of the roast with salt and pepper. Drop it in the cooker, and leave it on until dinner. I usually put mine in around noon, and turn it on high until around three or four. Then I turn it to low until dinner time. You can just let it cook all day while you're at work too. If you're at home, drop in a few baby carrots and some onion and potato wedges a couple of hours before you eat. Yum! Very Happy

It's good with mashed potatoes because you can make a nice gravy from the juice left in the crockpot. I do steamed green beans too and sometimes corn, but that's just what we like.

Is that too southern? Sorry, if so. Embarassed

I second the suggestion for the Whole Foods recipes. They are very creative but still pretty simple and delicious. I want to try the wild mushroom tart--- has anyone else ever made it?

I'm glad it sounds good to you, Jala. Definitely try it. Vonstella, if you subscribe to Shape magazine, they have some yummy recipies in there. I wouldn't get the subscription just for them, but they're good.

Another quick and easy but yummy meal: It's kind of chicken Marsala, but probably not one that a true Italian would make:

Pound chicken breast fillets until they're thin. (if you don't have a mallet, use a heavy pan. It's best to cover them in plastic wrap so that you don't have chicken gunk flying all over your kitchen.) Dip them in salted and peppered flour. Saute them in a little butter and olive oil in a deep frying pan or electric skillet. When they're golden brown, pour in about 1 1/2 - 2 cups of Marsala wine and about 1 1/2 - 2 cups of chicken broth. dump in some canned mushrooms or a package of fresh ones - probably about 16 oz or so. Cover, turn the heat down to simmer and leave it alone for a few minutes - maybe 10 or so. Serve it over pasta with a nice salad and some crusty bread.

Quick, easy, and yummy. - My measurements aren't exact because I never measure anything. Sorry, but neither of these recipes need exact measurements because they're very forgiving.

I have more floating around in there. Want them? Very Happy

Ohhh!! I have to give you all this one because it's so easy and good. It's a peanut butter cookie recipie.

Mix together two cups of peanut butter, two eggs, and two cups of granulated sugar. Volia! You have cookie dough! Roll it into little balls and smash them with a fork to make the criss-cross pattern. Bake and eat!! - Set your oven for about 350 degrees F. I think that's about 175 C if my math is working.

My favorite crock pot roast.. It's NEVER come out bad! I'm sure everyone has some variation of this already, but I thought I'd share.

4-5lb Roast
1 can Campbells Beefy Mushroom Soup
1 packet Lipton's Onion Soup Mix
Carrots
Potatoes
Fresh Mushrooms (I like lots of mushrooms and there aren't enough in the soup for me!)

Clean the carrots and potatoes, throw everything in the pot. Cook on low for 8-10 hours.

This one's really good for turning on right before leaving for work for the day! By the time you come home the whole house smells awesome!
