I need some help! I've been using the Dr. H line for oily skin for two weeks now and I'm not sure if the breakouts I'm experiencing are the purging that everyone talks about or just my skin saying this stuff is not for me. I woke up this morning with seven new pimples and I'm not happy.
So how do you tell which it is? Purging or reaction? |

Hi
I don't think you can really tell the difference between purdging and just plain ol your skin does not like the product. It takes skin 28 days to go through one cycle. I know it is painful, but you really should stick to it for that long to see if your skin is purdging or does not like the product |

me too, me too.. i am 23 days in and still breakouts have not stopped. At any one time, I have around 3-5 pimples and it has been this way since about day 6.
I even got one on my cheek today and I NEVER get a pimple on my cheek - not even when I was a teenager.
I mean, I am not covered in zits or anything, but for someone who gets maybe one tiny blemish a month (hormonal) it is a bit distressing (especially since I dont wear foundation) |

Actually, I'm not completely sold on the idea that purging is completely necessary. I've been on differin for almost a month now, and instead of a purge at the beginning my skin has just been slowly but steadily getting better. My derm actually advised me to quit all of my Dr. H products EXCEPT the toner--- she said that they're really just too rich for my skin. ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |

Which of the Dr. H products were you using? |

i usually stick to the product for at least one full month before deciding if its for me or not. Luckily my initial breakout normally lasts 2 to 3 weeks only and by the end of the month my skin gets used to the product and can use it without problems. |

I was using the Cleansing Cream and the Cleansing Milk. My goodness they were wonderful too... I hate having to do without them, but my skin is really looking great so I guess you win some and lose some... |

I tried two of the Dr. H products and knew immediately that my skin could NOT tolerate them. First I tried the "highly acclaimed" Cleansing Cream. It felt like I was left an oily residue on my face, even after rinsing well. But even worse, it clogged my pores and gave me whiteheads after only one application. My pores had been looking O.K. up to that point, so I don't think it was "purging" but rather having a "bad reaction" to the ingredients. It took me days to get back to my pre Dr. H state. Another time I tried the (also highly acclaimed) Rejuvenating Mask and I did NOT like that either. It also clogged my pores after only one use. I have very oily skin, and I think that Dr. H products just don't agree with my skin type. [Luckily I had samples of these products so I didn't waste my money!] |

I almost never "purge", it's either breakout or no reaction, I dont think purging is that normal since it's either a product that's either really drying so forces your skin to secrete more oil, or product that's too oily and blocking the pores.
Other similar products to dr H cleansing cream is the jurlique face wash cream, or Lush angels on bare skin. Both are pastey consistency. |

I don't believe in "purging" theory at all. |

My skin has purged. I would get a breakout in an area and it would clear up and the pores would look better. I love the DHCC but do use the Olay foaming cleansing cloth after to get rid of the film. I find this combination works better than either product independently. However the Rejuvinating mask was a bust for me too. ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

No not yet. It's very odd. My skin looks good and my pores look smaller but I'm breaking out in these pimples that form, pop, and go away really rapidly. It's the oddest thing I've ever had happen to my face. I'm going to keep using this for a few more weeks and then I might have to move on to something else. |

I just want to clarify, that when I posted above, I was not at day 23 on my course... it must have been about day 17.. I am NOW on day 23 and things have gotten substantially better, but still a couple of red spots. Maybe I should have used the CC twice a day.. or I am SURE it would have been better if I had been using hte clay mask as well (but I never had it). Take away the few spots and my skin looks pretty good though. |
