I would like opinions on moisturizers and eye creams - not necessarily the fancy and expensive stuff. Just what REALLY works. |

For dry skin (it's also targetted at mature skin), Neal's Yard Remedies' Frankincense Cream is a really good, not hideously expensive option that moisturises well.
Some people swear by facial oils too. Depending on how much moisturisation you need, these can be used either alone or underneath another moisturiser (great for cold winters). The Décleor ones are popular, and I'm currently testing a good one by Origins. However, you can also make your own for much less money. (See the DIY thread for recipes.)
For eye creams, that depends on what kind of problems you want to treat. I'm still looking for my Holy Grail product!
So far, I've found that Cellular SkinRx's Eye Bright does help to lighten dark circles. I do need to use something more moisturising on top, though, as my skin tends to be pretty dry. Valmont Lip & Eye Contour Cream is lovely and moisturising, I find for that purpose. Cellular SkinRx's Peptide Firming Eye Cream is pretty good, but not hydrating enough for me to use all the time. Also, Remergent's Microcirculation Therapy can definitely help with de-bagging and, I've found, makes a wee bit of difference with dark circles.
I'm still keen to try the scarily expensive Valmont L'Elixir and also Peter Thomas Roth Power K to see what they can do. |

Thanks. Which ones are good for "dry as a bone"? |

Well, as far as moisturizers go, when I used to live up in Minnesota the winters were eally rough on my skin, and the only cream I found that REALLY hydrated my skin was Beauty Without Cruelty's Maximum Moisture Cream. It's really lovely stuff, and you can get it at Whole Foods or drugstore.com for less than $10. Also, more recently I discovered Camellia Oil. You can use it on its own or with another moisturizer, and it's really powerful stuff.
As far as eye creams go, recently by dumb luck I stumbled onto what might be my HG eye cream. It's from a store calledwww.bestbathstore.com . You can go there and get a free sample and I'm telling you, this stuff is like creamed silk. Another eye cream that I have not tried but I've heard RAVES about it is 100% pure Coffee Eye Cream. |

I find Dr Hauschka's Rose Cream to be fantastic. (It's my favourite day cream). Very soothing and moisturizing and doesn't leave that greasy feel some moisturizers do. Some people find it rich and heavy as soon as it is applied, but it is absorbed very quickly so after a couple of minutes you have already forgotten about it. It is perfect for dry or cold climates. Aside from moisturizers and creams you may want to try some carrier oils like Jojoba, or Almond or Rosehip as well. If your skin is feeling/looking sallow and dehydrated, you may also want to up your water intake as body dehydration will be displayed in your skin. Sometimes we mistake our skin wanting water for our skin wanting oils or creams. |

Good day Salli
All you need to remember is to look for ingredients that are emollient or natural moisturizers such as those ingredients that are as close to what skin is made up of or recognizes. Good examples would be ceramides, hyaluronic acid, linoleic acid, glycerin. Mimicking the lipids of skin for eg olive oil, sesame oil, shea butter, squalane are also helpful for your DRY skin. Good luck with finding something you'll truly love. You'll know when you find it. |

For "dry as a bone" skin (which mine can also tend to be), I'd definitely try a nice skin oil with moisturiser on top. I use the ones I've already mentioned and sometimes Camellia Seed Oil. Emu Oil's also pretty good and squalene is supposed to be very effective too.
I used to use Philosophy's When Hope is Not Enough and found that to be very moisturising and firming. It's also aimed at mature skin and might be worth getting a sample of to try. |

I did one of those tests under UV light today and the therapist told me that my eye area looked really good for my age. I use MD Formulations Moisture defense eye cream and I really like it. I also use the critical care sheilding cream which I think helps too.

emu oil mixed with hyaluronic acid serum is great. the emu oil is very moisturizing and healing for dry skin; the hyaluronic acid serum is a humectant that helps your skin absorb the emu oil and give you a nice matte finish. I change the proportions of my emu/HA mix depending on how dry my skin is every day. |

Rose hip oil, petroleum jelly, Elizabeth Arden's 8-hour cream - these are extremely moisturizing and protective to the point of being occlusive. So if you have any tendency to breakout, you have be careful that you don't use these continuously and cleanse carefully. |

+1
I love this combo and so does my skin. I think emu works nicely across the board whether it's young or mature skin. Price is decent because a little goes a long way. |

Another vote for the Emu and HA combo. I wouldn't be without this.

Not too expensive:
look at PCA products. I have used 11+ and like this and want to try the Silk Balm (20, I think). 11 has hydrocortisone and would not be used on a regular basis but 11+ is OK daily.
Biomedic/LaRoche Posay Hydro active emulsion seems thin but makes my skin feel nice and soft. http://skincarerx.com/review_box.html?prid=542
More expensive ones I have tried so far and like - Skin Medica Dermal Repair, Kinerase Cream, and Remergent Barrier Repair.
Among the other gazillion things I want to try are DHC Olive Oil, Camellia Oil, Dr Eris' products, Dr Renaud's line........ I haven't tried HA yet but might try this with another moisturizer. I need all the moisture my skin can get right now esp with the cooler weather. |
