Its so hard to find skin cleanser with the right ph of 5.5 as the acid mantle. So, I tried to adjust it before myself by adding citric acid - big mess LOL it got all thick and curdly.
However, today I was reading somewhere that a soap manufacturer explained to s.o. that to lower the ph of liquid soap to HEAT some soap and dissolve CITRIC ACID in it and add to the remainder of the soap. The amount depends on the alkalinity of the product you start with, so ph testing is necessary until you get the desired level.
The secret is in heating the solution before adding citric acid and to completely dissolve it.
So I tried it today with my baby wash which I have been using for my face. I did the same with my body wash. Worked out great!!
None have the real bad SSL, only betaine and sodium laurETH sulfate.
I found it to be difficult to find a product that is detergent free and have the ph of the skin acid mantle. Even "balanced" cleansers are between 6.5 and 7, at least ten times as alkaline as the acid mantle (I learned LOL)

Can you tell me where you buy pH test strips from? I asked my local pharmacist but they didn't have any. |

They have the best prices I found online. Its a ph paper (double) roll. Im going to order the kind thats between 1 and 5.5 or so. Havent bought from three yet, last time I paid $a5 for 100 strips, and let me tell you, they go quick if you have to re-test so many times to get the ph right |

I am trying to find whether they ship overseas or not, but no luck so far. Might try and order just within Australia. Thanks for the tip on what to order though! |
