For the first time in my life, I've developed cysts on my chin. The second cyst was nipped in the bud entirely (yay!) with Renee Rouleau's anti-cyst gel ordered overnight mail and applied just in time! Unfortunately, the first one never really went away. I didn't have the Renee Rouleau at the time and used tea tree oil. Although it did shrink considerably, it still lingers as a little bump under the surface waiting to emerge (let's call it the "little bugger"). And while the Renee Rouleau worked magic on the second cyst before it emerged completely, it does nothing for the little bugger.

On a lark last night, I applied cortisone topically to the little bugger, on the theory that injected cortisone is used to treat active cysts. And this morning, I swear the little bugger is almost gone. I'd like to hear if this has worked for anyone else, and how often is it safe for me to apply it, realizing (though I don't know the science) that it's not good to apply cortisone to the face too often.

Thanks!

LandB, I developed those chin-cysts in my mid'40s for a few years, requiring injections by a derm for the first time in my life (the alternative was waiting forever for them to go away). After a few $55 appointments there, he kindly gave me a tiny tube of an ointment HE uses when he gets them [and he has waaaay gorgeous skin for anyone, let alone a male], under the condition that I not tell anyone it was from him! And he also said he wouldn't give me another tube of it. Anyway it was a tube of 0.05% Diprolene gel, mrf'd by Schering. The generic name is betamethasone diproprionate, which I managed to find on-line and got a few tubes. It works fairly well, but definitely isn't to be used other than in those circumstances. He said if it didn't have a calming effect in 2-3 days to stop using it and come in to see him (for an injection).

So, long story short, there are things that work on cysts but apparently also aren't too good for the skin. Hydrocortisone in particular thins the dermis making it more open to scarring and infection. I'm glad it worked for you but you may want to get a doc's opinion on continuing to use it.

For me, lately I had a sore-spot develop on my chin and I combined 1 drop of cold pressed castor oil (drawing) and 1 drop lavendar essential oil (calming, anti-inflammatory), put it on 2x day, it never developed into a cyst and I was able to drain it after a few days. Minimal redness too, easily covered up.
