Now that summer is approaching (we all run for sunblock right?)
I was wondering if any of you use particular pre-sun / holiday skincare?
e.g the oil & pretanner from Decleor
Also I know that flying can dry out your skin, is there anything that you would use combat the stress & pollution of recycled air?
I always take some sort of leg balm to get the blood flowing after sitting down for so long. Origins have a lovely methol leg gel be warned in the confines of an aircraft bathroom it will make your eyes water! |

I could have sworn that I replied to your post about 20 minutes before but just noticed that there was no reply. I think I probably hit preview instead of submit It's late, something tells me I should be going to bed
What I previously said was that I don't use any pre-tanning oils etc. I am (nowadays) very good at protecting my skin from the sun - so I tend to use a lot of sunblock and go for fake tans instead.
In terms of skincare, I generally change moisturising creams to lighter ones and use toner as a refresher (Phytomer Face Dew was my fave when summer was still with us).
I also have a bottle of Evian spray, which is great for flights. Whenever I am on an international flight I have no problems with doing a moisturising mask right there and then I just choose gel ones so they aren't all that noticable and also ones that you can just wipe off instead of washing off. |

hi eve
i like to switch to tinted moisturizers in summer - my fave one is Murad spf 15. i like the fact that it's light, oil-free, evend out my skin tone. i have dry skin, so i usually wear a serum a another moisturizer underneath.
another thing i change for summer is i start carrying refreshing spray in my purse to spritz whenver my skin feels a little dry, Jane Iredale H2O is a good one, it's tiny and compact and fits well into the bag.
yay, it's summer time!!!

Oh summer.. UGH.. YUK. Why? Well let's see.. I have the palest skin on earth that flushes at the first sign of heat, I turn the color of a lobster should I mistakenly find myself unprotected from the sun for about 5 minutes, my face perspires (oh, is it "glows"? ) so much it is impossible to wear any form of makeup other than mascara and lipstick... OH and I live in hot, humid, polluted Tokyo.
But my skin.. the lovely ladies at EDS have recommended the Sothys Clearness Serum as a treatment for the flushing (hope that works! can't wait for the order to arrive).
I live by facial spritzers (I tend to make my own with a good mineral water mixed with some rose or orangeflower water, a bit of witchhazel and a few drops of lavender oil) and in previous years a good serum (Valmont Bio Cellular is excellent!!) to cover my moisturizing needs (I cannot stand to wear moisturizer in summer, but have given the Decleor Harmonie Essentail a whirl based on EDS recs).
For cleansing, from last year I started using Eve Lom at night which is great. Not only does it leave my skin feeling TOTALLY free of the pollutants stuck to the skin from the day, but as it leaves the skin "moisturized" (Eve Lom says moisturizer is not needed after use), I get a bit extra protection seeing as I only used the Valmont serum. In the morning I went for a light gel cleanser. Of course I had a good light eye cream (La Mer last year) and a sunscreen is a given (currently La Mer too).
On the plane.. over the years I have developed a pretty darn good routine. I travel with special wet pack eye masks (they are Japanese so dont know if any toher place sells them). I put them over my eyes and then cover with a nice eye mask for sleeping.. keeps the eys from drying out. After a couple hours rest the eye mask is bone dry, so I can only imagine what the skin would be like without it. Toward the end of the flight I put on a face mask (I really DO mean a mask).. the cloth ones with a gel built in. I leave it on for 10 min and I DONT wipe off the excess when done - it acts as a protectant. Right before the flight lands, I spritz and wipe off with a damp face cloth (I always carry a small face cloth to wet with mineral water .. during the flight I soak it and then hold to my mouth/nose to breath through and stop the nasal passages drying out).
For circulation, I am CONTSTANTLY wriggling my feet around and tensing calf muscles and the back of my thighs to get the blood moving. I also drink about 2-3 liters of water on a 9 hour flight, which also helps. I never touch a drop of alcohol, nor coffee and I rarely eat the meals (especially on a Japan-Australia flight when they serve dinner at 10.30 pm and breakfast at 5am. YUK). I eat something before getting on the plane and then take a little 'stash' of snacky-poos to get me through (health bars, dried fruit, nuts, fresh fruit - like mandarins, etc.)
Oh dear.. this became quite LONG.. sorry! |

Sounds like you have the whole flight routine down pat! Btw, love the Valmont Bio Cellular serum too! It's fab!
Re: Bio Oil, what are you using it for? I always heard that it's supposed to be good for stretch marks but didn't know about the scars. What else is it supposed to do and what is in it?

Hey Mabsy, I originally bought it to try on some stretchmarks but well seeing as that required me to remember to use it when undressed I was not very regular in using it. The back of my hands are a bit sad (left with a yukky scar from a skin cancer removal and the right with a couple pigmentation spots), so I started using it on them. I figured on an exposed area I would have more chance of remembering and being able to use twice a day. I have seen definate changes. It has a really nice "feel" as it is a non-greasy dry oil and it absorbs quickly.
According to the maker it is useful for just about anything.. scars, uneven skin tone, stretch marks and even for ageing or dehydrated skin. I have been tempted to try it on my face too, as the "testimonials" ont he web site rave about the lessening of wrinkles (not that I look like a prune, but there are a some deeper crows feet than I woudl like when I smile )
The ingredients listed are Vitamin A and Vitamin E, Calendula, Lavender and Rosemary oils, and Chamomile extract, and it has no preservatives.
Hmm.. this week as I am out of moisturizer and waiting for my EDS order to arrive! Sounds like a good test opportunity!! |
