I've been using Jane Iredale's pressed powder foundation and while I really do like it, right now it's just not hiding some of those red blotchy spots or pimples when I get them time to time. Either I'm not using it correctly or I need to buy other mineral makeup that can hide those spots. I'm trying to find the right routine for me and until I do, I need a foundation that's going to provide a fresh dewy look but is also good for my face so that it doesn't clog pores (tall order, huh?!). What do you use for sensitive/combo skin? |

Good question! I want to switch foundations too. I alternate between Bare Minerals and Prescriptives Flawless Skin. Both of these were ok during warmer weather, but these days my skin is parched and thin looking, sort of crepey. When I put on foundation, it only accentuates the dryness. Hopefully someone can recommend a product that gives that fresh dewy look for someone with dry and sensitive skin. |

This may be the most ridiculous thing ever posted on EDS, but believe it or not, I use Cover Girl Advanced Radiance Age-defying foundation!
Everything else I've ever tried makes me look older, even high end stuff like Laura Mercier and La Prairie, or else it's so sheer it provides no coverage at all.
Don't know if it will cause breakouts in those who are prone to them. I get zapped by Cooltouch laser every month which prevents breakouts, and I always use a foundation primer to keep makeup from sinking into my pores.
If you're over 30 give it a try! |

I use Laura Mercier and it does not clog pores but I really like the Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 and I use this all year round. I apply the primer under it. I did read somewhere where one should change their foundation every once in a while so maybe get some samples. I have tried loads before I switched to Laura Mercier as I want makeup that looks natural and does not block pores or cling to my lines. |

Biotherm Light! and Clinique Perfectly Real. Both only offer a moderate coverage. |

I've used two that I thought gave a dewy look. Chantecaille Real Skin *without the sunscreen added* and BB Moisture Rich. But I'm always looking. Have been wanting to try Cle de Peau. |

I currently use Jane Iredale and have the same issues with not enough coverage, so I started using a touch of concealor on red spots, etc., and am happy with the results.

I agree with Jeannine using the concealer with your powder. I think if you have relatively good skin, why use anything but concealer and a light dusting of loose powder. Morgen Schick Hide n' Highlite is good for this.
OR, get yourself a good medium converage foundation to even out your complexion (only where you need it). Hope this helps. |

IMO, pressed mineral powders just don't offer the same coverage that you can get with loose mineral powders, so you may want to try some loose mineral makeup and see how it treats you. Loose mineral makeup can double as both your foundation and your concealer--- first you put a thin layer on all over as foundation, then follow up with a concealer brush dipped in the powder for your trouble spots. If you like your skin to look glowy, Everyday Minerals is a good one--- they offer free samples and have a new intensive coverage foundation that you might enjoy using as a concealer. Personally I like a matte, creamy look, so I prefer Alima. The samples from Alima are slightly more expensive, but they last a couple weeks so I definitely felt like I got my money's worth out of them. HTH! |

I think that while you are trying to find the right routine you might be better off using a a light reflecting sheen product (L Mercier Secret Brightener for example) to help create that dewy kind of look..I doubt that any foundation will deliver what you're looking for (which is why I think there is such a BOOM for all the shimmer products out there!)..There are a zillion and one you could try at every imagineable price point. Red Earth has a potion that isn't bad but if you can afford it - I'd go with a higher end brand...IMHO, stay away from Smashbox Shimmer potion - it is HORRID (IMHO) very artificial and over the top....but again, I wouldn't look to my foundation for the dewy look - I'd make strategic use of a good highlighter.
Good luck!

OOOOh! Thats good to know Pudoodles because I almost bought the Smashbox from TSC. Whew, good thing I didn't. I don't want shimmer on my face. |

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. There seem to be a good amount of foundations out there and have heard good things about Laura M and also Chantecaille Real Skin, expensive but good! I tried today to put some of the JI loose powder on trouble spots (my chin is breaking out these days) and it did look good for awhile, (well actually really good!) and it lasted a few hours. I don't normally use the loose powder because it seems to accentuate pores on me. I'm thinking maybe one of those sprays they sell that supposedly sets the look and makes it look fresh for longer is something I might look into as well. Thanks again for all the suggestions. |

Like Heather in Colorado, I too adore the Cover Girl Advanced Radiance foundation--it has Olay products in it. I've tried so many foundations, from the very expensive to the inexpensive, and this product beats them all for a "dewy" looking complexion. I really love it! |

I love the misters/spritzes to set makeup and also to refresh. I use one about every 3-4 hours. I like to use PSF's Facial Firming Toner mid-day (I don't use it as a toner anymore). When a bottle is empty, I recycle it and make my own mister spray (currently, I brew a 1/2 cup of chamomile and green tea in distilled water and add a drop neroli, lavendar, or ylang ylang essential oil). If you do this, store it in the fridge or make a small amount, because there are no preservatives. I also use a helichrysum hydrosol mister. I bought the Claudalie grape water mister (on the advice of EDS forum members) and really liked it, except that the bottle is unrecyclable (it's an aluminum spray can that you can't refill), so I will not buy again.

Hi Lefemme! So glad you like it, too!
I was afraid everyone was going to laugh at me for mentioning it! |

heatherincolorado,
What is the range of color choices like for the CG foundation? I seem to have trouble matching my skin tone with the drugstore brands. But for that price it might be worth trying. Does your skin tend to be dry?
TIA

Glad to help you out, Heather. I, too, am into all things "age-defying." No matter what concealer I use, I have tons of broken capillaries on my face and sometimes use Derma Blend or another fuller coverage product, I always top it with the CG Advanced Radiance--just to get that "dewy" look. It works every time! |

lp treatment spf 15 (I would like to say caviar, but it is really to thick for me). And my trick is not to add powder on it but use a sponge to press frequently. |

Hi Kimberly & Lefemme!
I actually mix two shades, Warm Beige & Soft Honey, and apply this over Laura Mercier primer and Make Up For Ever extreme camoflage cream on my capillaries and circles. I've pretty much always mixed two colors of foundations to get a perfect match for my weird palest-olive skintone. Also, I'll have pale days, and normal, healthy color days, and one shade of foundation just can't keep up!
I guess my skin is dry...Colorado in the winter is quite the arid place that sucks the moisture from everything! It's definitely not oily, but I don't have flakes or scaly patches. Is there such a thing as normal skin?
Whatever skintype it is, the ephemeral 'youthful glow' has been gone for awhile, and 'dewy' is faking it fairly well! |

Thank you Heather! I appreciate it. I'm not sure I'd know how to go about choosing two to mix. I did go look today while I was at Walgreens and I'm a little leery over the Olay ingredients. I use Warm Beige in BB. Hmmm.

I used Armani, it has a very subtle dewy finish, but not very longlasting though. It is great if you want a natural look. |

heathercolorado...I went to check this cover girl thing out and there are 2 with similar names. Do you buy the one in the tube or the one with the pump applicator? The liquid makeup or the sheer moisturizing makeup?

I use Dr Hauschka's liquid mineral foundation and just love it. Very light foundation but provides really nice coverage. I find that if I don't set it with my loose powder it gives me that nice fresh dewey look. I finish off the look by applying some Dr H bronzing powder to my cheeks as well. Lots of great ingredients which will help you with overall skin health too. |

ID Bare Escentuals is pure glow in a jar for me. Really, it is the finishing powder I use to boost the complexion . . .I use Warm Radiance for a warm, sun lit glow and Pure Radiance for a neutral glow. |
