Okay, so here he is, our new addition to the family.
After losing my lovely little girl cat in September of last year, I couldn't face having another cat in the house for a long time, but finally succumbed to my husband's constant nagging. At first, it felt strange having this new boy around, but I've grown to love him over the few weeks since he's been here. Just one look at his cheeky, fat face makes me grin.
His name is Marley, and I adopted him from the charity for which I work. He was a long-term stray. Someone was feeding him, but contacted us when they saw that he had a nasty abscess behind his ear.
Marley is a biiiiiiiig, biiiiig boy. He weighs around 6 and a half kilos - all of which is pure muscle, not an ounce of fat. And he's still putting on weight. Luckily, he's a well-proportioned lad - huge all over, so takes the weight well and so it isn't an unhealthy size for him.
He's incredibly talkative, with the most amazingly wide vocabulary I've ever known in a cat. He can go from cute little chirrups, right up to horrendously strangulated yowls (usually in the early hours of the morning, when he wants food/attention).
We reckon he's only about 2 or 3 years old, and is very loving, bouncy and playful. Most of all, though, he is desperate for the company of other cats. He sits in our conservatory and yowls for them. So we're waiting to find a little girl to keep him company (preferably a few months old or so, in the hope that she'll look up to him and not do the usual haughty girly, I-hate-boys thing).

Good for you! I love to hear about people adopting strays. It is always so heartbreaking to see animals that aren't getting love and attention. Marley looks adorable, like a real character. |

What a beautiful boy. I commend you for giving him a loving home--and the little girl that is soon to follow, too! Our pets always start out as strays, too. It is always nice to hear when someone has opened their heart and their home to an animal in need of love and care. |

Sounds like my Casper. She's a biiiiig girl!
Congratulations on your newest addition, and I'm happy that you adopted a stray. |

Hi Majorb
One look at that face and I just know you are going to have your hands full. His expression reminds me of Garfield and I think it says he knows he was put on this earth for humans to serve. Have fun and enjoy serving. He's beautiful.

Oh my! That second picture -- You can tell he's a character. It's sad that he's lonesome, but also very very sweet. You are the best Mom to know and be willing to get him company.
It is so hard after losing a beloved pet. A new pet comes in and it's not exactly right for a while. But in time, well, you know It will be perfectly right!

Thanks, everyone. I'm glad you like him.
When he first came to us, he was all shy. Since then, he's turned into such a bossy boots. He makes darn sure you know exactly what he wants. As he simply adores the top of his head being massaged, he even grabs hold of your hand with his paws and places it there! He also loves having his pink paddy-paws massaged and rubbed. (Otherwise, he's very macho, but with a gentle heart.)
I've heard today about a fosterer for another charity, whose foster cat gave birth to kittens two or three weeks ago. One of them is a dark tortie and I'm thinking of asking if I can reserve her - or one of the other tortie girls in the litter. I have a soft spot for torties because of their naughtiness, just like my previous little girl. With any luck, a new kitten will play with Marley and grow to love him.
I'll keep you posted if we manage to get her. |

Another handsome cat! Wow, two in one day on EDS. I love his markings and I can tell in that second pic he's the "boss". He really will be if you get a kitten. I'm sure he'll quickly learn to love it. PLEASE post pics if you do get the kitten. We need more kitty faces around here. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Well, I think I may have found him a little friend - but she won't be ready for a few weeks yet.
Any advice on how to introduce a kitten to an established cat? I'm thinking he's going to be doing a lot of running to hide under the bed to get away from her naughtiness! ![Shock](images/smiles/shock.gif) |
