hi all,
Basically I dont know how its possible that 6 months ago I had beautiful skin and then after I had a facial it all went downhill....
Not only the facial caused a lot of broken cappliaries but terrible acne, that has just now started to clear up.
My face is constantly red cuz of the broken caps.
I dont know what to do to go back and fix my skin.
It got so senstitive that I cant use any exfolaints. Tried Vit C but it seems to cause breakouts and contributes to redness on my face.
What can I do?
I assume I will have to go to a dermatologist and do a few Laser treamtments for the broken caps, but is there anything else that would be suitable for the sensitive skin to improve the tone and make the redness go away?
This is really making me so depressed... |

I'm sorry that you have to go through this.
What are you currently using? Do you have oily skin?
I would suggest an aspirin mask, or a cleanser containing salicyclic acid. The recipe for aspirin mask is in DIY.
I use the aspirin mask about once a week. I have oily skin, and it soothes and calms my skin.
I also use Dr. H Cleansing Cream. But it is like exfoliation, and if you cannot do this, then I would hold off until you can.
Once we know your skin type, and what you're using, then that would help us more.
Take care, |

I gues you have sensitive skin. To calm the redness and irriation try using the "Gentle soothing booster" from Dermalogica....it should take away the redness, i use it and it's great for that.
That is quite weird how the facial did all this to you. WHat kind of facial was it? are you sure it wasnt like a microdermabrasion? |

i would Not use salyclic acid on your face...people use it for acne..but speaking from someone with rosacea..that stuff would turn you even more red. Don't buy into everything that says gentle..i suggest buying a book on ingredients and reading what you put on your face. personally i use chamomile tea on my face in the morning (chamomile is an herb..a relaxer..), cetaphil moisturizer (extremely basic..), and for makeup i use minerals and a physical sunscreen underneath. Do not exfoliate...that will just aggravate your capillaries and cause more. I've found my regimin naturally exfoliates itself through time. just be gentle...the redness should settle down. |

Hello and thanks for your responses
Right now I feel like I dont do enough for my skin but at the same time I dont want to aggravate the redness. So heres my routine:
AM
-Dr Eris Pharmaceris T Foam face wash
-ACV toner
-RX acne gel- Dalacin T ( use only on the T zone)
-Origins Mositurizer
-Dr Eris Sunscreen
PM
-Origins Checks and Balances Cleanser
-ACV toner
-Dalacin T
+ babor eye cream am and pm
My skin turned really sentitive.
I dont know if anything I am using right now might be too harsh?
I do have a La roche posay TOLERINE cream + cleanser, but I havent used that stuff yet.
Are there any particular products for rosacea? anything that would reduce it? is laser an effective treatment?

You could try adding some soothing essential oils to your ACV toner... on the DIY thread someone had posted what oils are good for certain skin problems. |

I've researched products for rosacea..none of them are anything special. A lot of them still contain irritating ingredients...nice way to trick people into worsening their skin. I only wash my face once a day (night time...to wash any eyemakeup/foundation off)...and rinse with chamomile in the morning...cleansing twice a day would more than likely irritate my skin. But being you have acne im not sure cleansing your skin only once a day would be good. Hopefully someone else can help you with your problem...you definitely should take care of the broken caps first in my opinion..something gentle yet cleansing can also minimize acne...its all about bacteria in the pores... |

Poor Aga.
Don't fret. You CAN bring your skin back to its former glory. I think you just need to let it heal.
My skin can be sensitive and I overexfoliated one time. My cheeks were an angry red. Why from just the friction of cotton pillowcases overnight I'd wake up with little pimples on my face. Another time I used an enzyme mask that my sister had used with terrific results. Ended up with a few little broken caps on my cheek and my face burned for THREE weeks. I finally saw a dermatologist who suggested that I use a topical steroid on my face...for the rest of my life! Sure, doctor, I'll get back to you on that one.
At that point I just had to step away from the products!
Didn't matter if my skin loved them previously, I stopped using anything that could irritate--no AHA's or scrubs. I only used tepid water and barely touched my face when washing it--once a day. Right now I'm using an Avalon Organics CoQ10 cleansing milk. Not because I think the CQ is doing anything in particular, but because it absolutely does not irritate my skin.
I know you said it's been some months, but looking at the products (ACV, for example) you're using, your skin's still being bombarded and cannot heal.
Do your skin a favor, leave it alone. Let it reestablish its proper PH and regrow its protective top layer. Moisturize using the cleanest product you can find. The caps won't go away, but they'll nearly disappear if your skin isn't dry and irritated. I used Earth Sciences, but you may like something different. It took at least three months before my skin recovered from those episodes--they happened sort of close together and one compounded the other.
Another idea is to treat it from the inside using vitamins and supplements. Flax oil can be added to your meals with little trouble. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water. How about some green tea?
It all sounds too simple, but just give your skin a chance to take care of itself. It will, you'll see. |

Aga,
You've been on the board for quite a while and trying all sorts of things out. I wonder if the constant trying of new products has caused the redness?
You should definitely see a dermatologist at this point... |

Aga, I'm wondering if any of the store bought products you are using have a fragrance, alcohol or other irritants added? I say try the Toleraine you have, I like it a lot. Very calming. I also have acne and use Cetaphil cleaner in the morning and Toleraine at night, I treat blackheads on my nose with salicylic acid serum, which you probably don't need. I also spot treat active pimples with benzoyal peroxide, Persa Gel currently. It has a very simple formula that seems to work best. I was using Proactiv's but I think the fragrance was causing me more trouble but way of total irritation. I've also starting using a cortizone 0.05% with aloe cream on red burning areas for a few days only and it really, really seems to help to heal although I don't think it does anything for spider veins. While I think ACV toner is great, I don't use it all the time and only on my nose when I do use it because after all, it is an acid and could very well pose a problem for very sensitive skin. I find with my skin, sensitivity to some products can come out of the blue, I can use for weeks or months and then all of the sudden, bam, I'm a mess!
Have you thought about getting some blood tests done? Certain conditions and illness are related to the sudden onset of acne, etc. Especially if you never had the problem before. |

Hi Aga,
Personally, I really think you have been using too many products on your skin over the months that I have been reading your post. You must be really fustrated.
I am in no way telling you to go out and buy this product but perhaps you would like to read about it. My daughters friends uses it with very good results and has the redness and breakouts as you mention. Read about it and perhaps try to get some feedback from other forum members.

My dermatologist gave me "Rosac". Is is supposed to be for Rosacea but he said it works well for Acne too. Well, it probably would work great if I could stand the smell. The stuff is foul! |

Aga - have you tried just going back to what you were using prior to the facial? I can see where you're coming from in trying all the different products (I would have done that myself) but I think there's a time when you just have to draw the line if things are not working and go back to the last thing that you KNOW FOR SURE was ok with your skin. |

I'm with Toe, I would just use a basic cleanser and moisturiser and let your skin heal.
If I was in your position I'd probably make my own cleanser from: ground almonds, grapeseed oil and a bit of Lavender essential oil, nothing else. Then I'd use Rose water as a toner (one with no alcohol) and Dr Hauschka Normalising Day Oil.
As for make-up keep it simple, a mineral based powder that is not going to irritate.
It's like Toe says your skin will need time to heal.
Diet is crucial with vitamins and mineral supplements to speed up the healing process.
I hope you find what works for you, when I was in my teens I was so self conscious about my acne which was quite severe at the time. |

Aga,
(Beauty Therapist hat on now!)
I would just go right back to basics - use only the things that are absolutely necessary. Make sure that the products you do use are Sulfate free(irritating) and where possible as natural and gentle as possible(ie no irritating chemicals/preservatives.) Leave off exfoliating and wear minimal make up if you can bear it.
I would stick to a basic gentle cleansing product,a rose water toner (cheap from your chemist)or just a mineral water spritz and a basic moisturiser if you need it. Use a mineral spf if you're outside in the sun but be aware its not as effective as a chemical sunscreen but will irritate your skin less.
Your skin may initially break out a bit more but bear with it - your skin sounds very irritated and angry - if you resist the urge to 'do' too much it will settle down and heal.
If you MUST use a mask - stick too something soothing like basic honey and milk (NOT a bought one just kitchen ingredients). Avoid essential oils till your skin is less upset as they can be very potent & can aggravate an already upset skin. You need to give your skin a holiday of several months. Be gentle to your skin and kind to yourself -I know its boring but eat well (not too many cirus fruits or tomato/peppers or spicy foods as this can aggravate Rosacea) and drink lots of water.
What ever you do please do not use any scrubs/aha's or acids of anysort!
Keep it simple and basic and be patient - stop swapping products however much they promise or how much you're tempted.
Most of all avoid anything with potentially irritating ingredients until your skin is more settled (sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, essential oils, acids,).
Dab natural honey on any blemished over night - its sticky but antibacterial and healing.
Feel free to PM me if you want to chat - I've seent his type of thing loads of times and basic is definitely best.
Best wishes and Take care.

Hello!
Thanks so much for your responses
I hear all of ya, I need to keep it simple
I have droped a lot of different stuff and thought that my routine was already simple. I guess I can try dropping the ACV toner and see what happens, but I really like it and it has helped with getting rid of acne.
Its hard cuz most of the redness appeared right after the facial, I was posting asking " what those little red dots all over my cheeks are" and just now I figured out that its simple broken caps, and I swear that they are a reasult of the facial.
That absolute basic is Origins: Cleanser ( seems very gentle, no AHA BHA , no salicylic acid etc.. ) + Mositurizer
I dont know about other stuff, like an SPF what to use... I used to use Nivea, but switched to Dr Eris. I am not sure what the best SPF would be for sensitive skin right now? And what is the difference between a physical and the other SPF btw?

The only thing is that I want it now lol
And at the same time I am scared of buying new products that I wont use.
Sigh, what to do.... |

FYI - the following essential oils are known to help treat broken capillaries, so you might think about adding a couple of drops of one or two of these EOs to your ACV toner:
• BROKEN CAPILLARIES: Chamomile, Cypress , Geranium, Lemon, Palmarosa, Peppermint Rosemary.
You mentioned that your acne was starting to become under control, but I’m going to post the list of EO that can help with both acne and reducing inflammation, just in case:
• ACNE: Bergamot, Chamomile, Clary sage, Clove bud, Geranium, Grapefruit, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Lime,Mandarin, Palmarosa, Peppermint, Rosemary, Rosewood, Tea tree, Ylang-ylang.
• REDUCING INFLAMMATION: Chamomile, Clary sage, Fennel, Frankincense, Geranium, Myrrh, Peppermint, Orange, Tea tree .
As you can see, a couple of these EO overlap in regards to the conditions that they treat (i.e.: Chamomile, Roemary and Peppermint), so those might be your best choices to add to your ACV toner. |
