I've learned so much from this forum. What's your most valuable thing you've learned here?
For me, I learned that I shouldn't be afraid of oil in skincare (certain types anyway). I always thought that being oily-skinned meant I had to have oil-free products. Now I'm using Decleor YY oil and balms, as well as I Feel Pretty healing serum and loving every bit of their oily goodness!
What about you? What the most important thing (for your own routine) you've learned. Or even, what surprised you the most (that would be ditto for the oil on oil routine for me!).

Oh, that's a good one!
Having gone through my teens to mid-30's as super oily, I wish I had known then what I know now --- oils are our friends. If anyone had ever told me that I would someday clean my face with an oil cleanser, I wouldn't have believed it. |

The oil thing is a huge one! I never knew about SLS/SLES before EDS either. Now I'm discovering that sea kelp is like liquid gold....I wish I could drink it! ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |

OK, where to start? There are many reasons why I'm addicted to this forum!
This is going to sound really dumb, but I didn't know very much about actives! Or the rationale behind using OCM on oily skin. Didn't know a lot about emu oil, sea kelp, JMAIE, times to wait between applying products, topical Vit. C, why SLS/SLES, certain 'cones and parabens are bad in products, the list goes on. I had heard of these things before but did not have a real understanding of any of it (not that I'm an expert now at all or anything - still learning!).
This forum has been a total blessing to me. |

The use of Vitamin C.
I was a vitmin C virgin when I started on this forum in early 2004 and by the end of the year I had my first bottle of Cellex-C in hand and my skin never looked back! ![](images/smiles/049.gif) |

I've learned that the most effective skincare products aren't exclusively sold in the high-end department stores.
I've learned not to get sucked into the latest marketing blitz promoting the newest wrinkle miracle cream by actually reading and understanding the ingredients.
I've learned that in the past 3 years on this board that I know 100 times more about skincare than any salesperson standing behind the counter. |

I've learned that I inherited a 'ceiling' in my thinking, that was set mainly by my mother. By this I mean, I had an unconscious 'good enough' limit about my looks.
Reading this forum where women strive for BETTER skin and even SHINIER hair and the MOST GORGEOUS lipstick and MORE eyelashes, etc, has made me realise I can raise my ceiling about where I can go with my looks.
I can go for a higher degree of 'result', rather than be satisfied with something which may actually not be THAT satisfactory. |

I feel that I'm still at the beginning of the learning curve, but the most valuable things I've learned so far: actives, oils, and DIY products. The knowledge I'm gaining makes me feel more in control about myself! |

This is a GREAT topic!
The main thing I've learned is that the best skincare/makeup is NOT what you find your local high-end department store (necessarily).
And that high $$ doesn't always mean better product (thanks Candy & Carrie for that!!).
To wait until someone here at EDS has reviewed a product before I buy it!!! Sometimes I'm such a sucker for slick advertising...
And I thank EDS for these:
Blinc Kiss Me mascara
Vitamin C products - currently using Obagi & Candessence Triple C (love them both)
Cellcosmet Eye Gel & Cream
Best Bath Store - the Dead Sea scrub is awesome & smells SO good, and I'm evaluating the eye cream too (so far pretty good)
Carekate's LushLips - feels good, plan to get the overnight balm
Carekate's Bump Buster - works beautifully & doesn't smell bad
Now if I could just get my lemming instinct under control... ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/rolleyes.gif) |

Definitely the positive effects of oils for my oily skin! In a matter of months, my former oily skin has been transformed into normal, even DRY skin! Months ago, 30 minutes after cleansing and applying oil-free moisturizer, I would look closely into a mirror and already see pools of oil forming in the pores of my nose. Not so anymore! |

That nothing works for everyone! But...at the same time, if lots of ladies on here with similar skin types to mine like something, it's sure worth a try . |

Things I've learned from EDS:
- pH in skincare and wait times
- order of application of products
- recipes for homemade goodies
- how to look at an ingredients list
- the existence of etailers like Candessence, I Feel Pretty, Dianne Yvonne, and the numerous mineral makeup companies out there.
Thanks to everyone who's contributed to the forum--this is such a great source of information! |

I've learned to keep my credit card in a safe, and only give the combination to my tight-wad fiancee....
Just kidding! I would never do that to my poor little credit card! It would be sooooo lonely!
On a serious note, I've learned that there are some seriously sweet and helpful people on this board that really do care.
Oh, and JM kicks A$$!!! |

most important thing I have learned... GENTLE cleansers are key! (and cleansers are SO important).
and in general, I have become a much more informed consumer, and even though I buy more expensive products now, I am not wasting near as much.
and another key think I have learned.. I AM WORTH IT! (aw... how cheesy is that! but it's true, EDS is like a huge support system). |

Definitely not to believe everything you read on all those skincare sites out there. You really can't look 10 yrs. younger in 7 days!
Also, that people can become very good friends, without actually seeing them or meeting them in person.
And last, but not least, knowledge really is power! ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |

Me, too! Vitamin C is probably the biggest, but I've learned so much else as well... OCM, actives, retinol, DIY, the list goes on and on.

Vitamin C for me, too!
And PSF products
Oils--jojoba, olive, emu, etc.
High cost does not necessarily equal a quality product! |

I forgot about wait times...I had no idea you had to wait or the fact that it actually MATTERED in terms of the order you put stuff on your face.
I figured it was much like my stomach...doesn't matter the order because it's all going to the same place anyway. ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |
