Unfortunately, there are not any products to cure vitiligo! However, I highly suggest the use of a sunblock every day, to prevent the melanin in the unaffected areas from becoming more dark or damaged. Others may want to use a product such as Jane Iredale's Covercare Camoflage Concealer to even out the appearance of their skintones.
I have pasted some information about this skin condition below.

Aloha,
Thank you for the information that you sent. I have been researching Vitaligo for a while now and realize that there are no quick fixes or any real cure. I am glad to have read the information that you sent and have been trying to find the skin bleaching medicine (monobenzylether of hydroquinone).
I am planning to start this process. I know that I will be turned completly white (i am hawaiian filipino) so this for me is dramatic! But I can no longer live with this disease! I am not happy with my-self and will do just about anything to rid my body of this!
Thank you for replying to my message you have been very helpful.
Mahalo,

aloha,
Vitaligo is a skin disease that effects your pigment. I have white spots on my face and hands and feet. For some people it is minor, but for me it is major. It is covering my body and I dont know if it is going to stop.
I am not as severe as some prople, but to me it is. I have had it for 2 1/2 years now and I hate it. I will do anything to get rid of it.
I am going to be going under de-pigmentation treatment. That will turn me completely white ( for me that is hugh, because I am Hawaiian, Filipino and my skin is brown!!).
I hope it works, wish me luck!!

My aunt's husband has this too, as do a couple of former schoolmates. Celebrity with this pigmentation problem: Michael Jackson. |

Actually my mother has it. She said she developed it at around the age of 15. Growing up I could remember her saying how displeased she was with her mottled complexion. She always maintained her complexion with very good skin care and ALWAYS wears foundation to cover the white areas. Her skin today at the age of 77 is so supple, smooth and soft. Some sagging at the jaw line, but no dry wrinkles to speak of. I guess there IS something positive to say about this skin condition. |

I don't have this condition but 10 years ago when laser surgery was young I had a Silk CO2 Laser procedure done around my upperlip, out to my "laugh lines" and my whole chin & under my lips. I lost all of the pigment in that area & in some spots the white was even whiter (if that's possible). Over the years only a little has returned & it's been splotchy. I think it's because I know fear the outdoors & my face sees no sun whatsoever. I'm now a hat/sunglass mysterious person
What I do know is that they are working on a cure for this. A good friend of ours (who is a very successful plastic surgeon in toney Yorkville Toronto) said that research for burn victims is included for the cure too. He's sure that one day the cure will come.
Meanwhile I have also wondered about the Jane Iredale concealer but have no idea as to colour or anything. The MD that did the "work" on me pretty much said that it sucked to be me and I should use heavy cover makeup around my mouth. I have never worn any foundation in my life but have purchased countless varieties over the years. They look okay in the store but at home they aren't me.
I've since quit berating myself that it was my own fault because I did the laser for vanity purposes only but the Jane Iredale line always gets good reviews here. And it didn't even occur to me to use a lightener.
Good luck Hawaiian Smiles - I'll be watching this topic along with you! |

Thanks for the reply SusieQ...gives me a little hope for the future. I have two boys and they say they don't even notice it because of them it doesn't bother me as much. Of course there are people who are rude, but all in all I handle it well.... In the summer I use Netrogena self tanner....doesn't completly hide the spots but it tones it down..and it is good sun protection. Again, thanks for the reply... |

No problem. This is what I keep telling my mother. That people probably don't even notice. Personality counts. |

My vitaligo, which as first noticed on my ankle at 18 has now decided to spread to my arms, back and chest at 48. I am so bummed out about this. I couldn't figure out why my skin was getting so rashing and irritated in those areas, and then I saw them - those undeniable white spots and I knew in an instant that it spread - widely I might add. So, I've been on the internet and seeing many "cures" via creams and capsules that apparently help you regain the lost melanin. But on this forum, I am reading that nothing works - there is no cure, only skin lightening options. I am looking for someone who has tried one of those supposed "cures". This skin condition is such a drag! |

I mentioned this product on another topic, but....a very good, hardly known about, near waterproof concealer/sunscreen is Sportz Bloc (spf 20), and it’s VERY inexpensive. The coverage is solid (a small amount goes a long way) but surprisingly natural looking in terms of the shine/matte balance. A value and gem of a product for coverage. The three shades (light, medium and dark) are more yellow then pink and are easily mixed to match your skin tone ~ the light and medium shades work to match my medium skin tone. Zinc oxide is the active ingredient with vitamin E as well.
http://www.homerecovery.com/Sportz%20Bloc.htm or search online for even lower prices. |

I finally decided to search for help with my vitaligo. I have had this since I was 19. It started as a small white spot on the side of my mouth and after the birth of my daughter, I know have white spots all over my body. I am use to it because I have had it for so long, but I would like to be one color (for the sake of my children). I have heard their friends ask "what is wrong with your mom". Of course they answer, nothing. When they were younger (they are now 6 & they would tell people that their mom is milk and chocolate . But as I am getting older one color sure sounds good. I am not looking to gain my color back because I think that this is impossible, but I would like to be one color without having another child which was what has been suggested to me. |

Unfortunatly, it is true, there is no cure for vitaligo. Go to a cosmetician and see if there are any special peels that can help even out your skin tone. You should definitely get a professional recommendation. |
